I'm not going to pick at this point because you know as well as I do why it's not possible - for example Sweden has little or no "underclass" (and will not allow anyone belonging to the "underclass" to immigrate) which consumes more than it produces, Swedes needn't pay for maintaining a military which is able, by itself, to provide for Sweden's defense because, via NATO, US and UK taxpayers provide it for them, because the Swedish population is not growing ....Quote:
Why can't everyone have healthcare, child care, etc, as a part of citizenship rather than employment (like in Sweeden)? Why should we be denied these benefits because we live here and not there? Aren't we all deserving of the same stuff? Yes, yes, I know, please don't tell me that this would be impossible
My only point here is that the "underclass" of the world, among them Shiite Muslims, many South Americans, Croatians etc., are now beginning to realize that the world's population has now grown so large and the world's resources are so limited and so unevenly distributed that they, as the "underclass", will NEVER achieve a standard of living which WE typically enjoy by any means other than by taking it away from someone else ! This is an underlying theme beneath virtually every conflict of the last 10 years, although nobody seems to be willing to come out and discuss the problem openly. Virtually every aspect of the standard of living typical in the "first world" is attributable to exploiting the natural and human resources of the "third world".
If it comes right down to it, extremely few "first world" citizens would be willing to see their standard of living cut in half in order to guarantee peace throughout the rest of the world. Even if we did, it would probably not improve the standard of living of third world citizens at all or increase the likelihood of world peace, because some local strongman/warlord would keep the proceeds for themselves. THIS is also a major underlying factor in middle east tensions, since typically the huge amount of oil wealth generated in the middle east never trickles down past the palace of the royal family or the 'ruling class' elite. THIS is the reason that Saddam invaded Kuwait in 1990 (because the Kuwaiti shieks were setting an extremely bad example by sharing some oil revenue with every resident of Kuwait).
