wow... ouch. I haven't looked at the site ( as I think I said before). Sorry if you think I am asshole for questioning whether we need the legislature to concentrate on things other than how horses are slaughtered. I am guessing the bill would not STOP the killing of horses (as by my logic, the owners of these animals are unlikely to be killing horses that are still alive and well, which just makes good economic sense) but would make the practice more humane. It just seems to me like an issue (like many that gov'ts tackle) that probably does not need to be addressed. And I am sorry, when we are fighting a 100 billion dollar war, the WOD is ruining our criminal justice system, and I see legislatures like they do here in GA waste millions of taxpayer dollars dealing with 'feel good issues' like this one, over dealing with the REAL day to day problems we face, it annoys me.
Tell me before reading this post have you ever heard of the problem of horse slaughter. Now 1000's of people are calling their reps and emailing them about horse slaughter. Can you honestly say this is one of the biggest problems facing the residents of illinois. I am sorry if it sounds callous, but in the grand scheme of things the pain that a horse feels being killed one way vs another is relatively insignificant to how I or many others run our lives.
Not to mention that I am willing to bet that all of these laws and regulations will cost jobs (as one poster above mentioned) , as any gov't regs do, and frankly in this time of unemployment etc I don't see that difference in pain being worth the actual pain that the jobless citizens of illionois feel.
I mean I am a pretty liberal dude, and I am sorry if this post changes your impression of me. I stil am the same guy, just feel that human lives are more valuable and should be the focus of gov't.
E.g. a similar movement was passed here in GA for animal cruelty making it a FELONY. Now in Ga being cruel to an animal is more punishable that assault, battery, dui, low level sexual misconduct, etc. What is worse battering your spouse/SO or cat? Once again don't take this that I a PRO beating animals, just like I am not PRO beating horses. But let's get reasonable here folks...
