I have a near poster size photo (20x30) that I would like to frame. Actually, I already have it in a frame but it looks bubbly or ripply. Do I dare even try to mount this photo at home? Should I just take it to a pro shop?
~TIA~

Just put another layer of cardboard behind the pic. The frame mounting board is probably too thin to hold the pic flat.
Depends on how much $$ you have to spend and how long you want the photo to be preserved.
A good framing shop can mount it on either foam core board or other lightweight board and frame that for you.
If it is really valuable they can even scan the photo and make a very large computer file.
Also, you can get some (and I am serious when I say this)
Spray and Mount at your local hobby store. It is a dry glue that you can use to fix to the backer board.

This can has a
Warning: Do not use on lap dance customers. Serious contact will occur.
How do you mount a photo at home? Cook it dinner and get it a nice bottle of wine. A few drinks and it should be no problem.
Sorry about that.
Susan, you forgot to mention at which point should I buckle up my strap on! ;D
haha to u to sitri.
cookie, i already have it on a disc the file is huge!
Venus, I considered thicker board I just thought it had to be "glued" so I guess what I can do is get thicker board and use the spray adhesive to hold it? I hope bubbles won't be a problem.
Inespensive frame jobs frequently use a piece of regular cardboard(like a shipping box) as a backing. You can just replace this with several layers of more rigid material, or even go to the hardware store and buy a piece of glass. They cut to size and do not charge that much.
OR Go to Target and look at the bargain pictures for one with a nice frame and matting. This can be a cheap way to frame a picture. For a nicer frame go to tag sales or auctions and replace their picture with yours.
I used to be a framer. Here are my suggestions.....
If it is valueable (ex: limited edition, signed, etc):
$$$$$ Take it to a frame shop (not a frame center in a biger store,a specilty frame shop) and get them to frame it professinally. Use all conservation materials, spacers (so it can breath and not get stuck to the glass), uv glass to protect it from light, acid free foam board, if you go with mats use cotten not paper.
$ Take it to a frame shop and get a peice of acid free foam board cut to size, this is flater and thicker then the cardboard, and its better for the print. This shouldnt cost that much.
If its not that valueable (ex; you have more, you can make more, etc):
$ Take it to a frame shop, they can dry mount it preaty cheap. Then just use your old frame if its good enough...
$$$ Take it to a frame shop, where I worked we had a poster package deal, it inclued dry mount, a metal fram in black or silver, and glass, as well as assembly. All for one price based on measurements. Even if the place you go dosnt have a package deal you could get something similar that would look wonderful for $50-$100 (i am guessing).
<$You can use spray mount or spray glue and put it on a peice of foam board yourself. You should be able to buy foam board at your local craft store. This can be somewhat difficult though with something so large and it will deterirate quickly (I have stuff from collage that is fucked up now because I mounted it this way, thats only about 3-4 years ago). I wouldnt suggest carboard because that can show the waves after time....
I say skip buying dinner and wine... if ya REALLY wanna mount the picture ask nicely! Or just ask me,I'm willing to take one for the team and let you mount me instead of a picture!
thanks everybody. Even you nasty people. :o
I hope I didn't get lumped in with the nasties. But if I did, I will take it a compliment.
Happy mounting. ;D
