"Guardian Angels"?
I am posting here because I respect and enjoy the opinions of all here. I also don't know what to think and maybe someone can help. A year ago, a clarivoyant woman told me I had a guardian angel that she "saw." I thought little of it....not many details. But it did get me thinking.....I have survived a lot of crazy misadventures in my life. I was in a horrible car wreck in 2001 and walked away with bumps and bruises. Someone tried to kidnap me in 2002 (a stalker.) Another wreck in 2003 (I was a passenger.) I've had junk slipped into my drink but got straight to a hospital. (Some of these hazards came with being a dancer and working in a bar...)
On top of that, I was raised in a rough household (my mom didn't do much to protect me or help me out in life...) so all things considered, I think I might have had help along the way..I used to REFUSE to believe in guardian angels, but now maybe I shouldn't question it.
PS I dated a man who is a Special Forces soldier..he believed in guardian angels but not ghosts! He was deeply Catholic, so as per dogma states...anyway, I feel better that he agreed with me.

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
whether you call it a guardian angel, fate, or whatever, there certainly seems to be some force at work behind the scenes which alters random events !

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
I know what ya mean madmaxine. I'm like a cat w/ 9 lives, but I've lived way more than 9 lives in my 25 years. I also like to think I have a "guardian angel," but I don't think it's just coincidence. it must be b/c we were put here on this earth to do SOMETHING specific.

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
There's a little more to the story. Recently, my best friend and I were on a trip, in North Dakota. I went to bed early the night we got into town, but she had to get up around 11PM because the airline had lost her luggage and the courier brought it to our hotel around that time. So she was awake in her bed while I was snoring in mine...she saw an"orb" (light ball) come into our room through the window. At first we made jokes about "pesky ancient Native American burial grounds!" But some events transpired to where I think it might have been a spirit. She saw something like that in Puerto Rico last year too, but several of them.

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
I totally believe in Guardian Angels. I believe that there are "beings" that we cannot see that actively help us throughout our lives. Me...I give thanks to my "helpers" daily. Sometimes, even when you do not understand something, you just have to go along with it. :D Isn't it a great feeling that someone loves you so much that it doesn't matter what you do, they'll always be there to help you? Talk about unconditional love...it's a great feeling.

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
Oh I totally believe in guardian angels. I am Catholic, and although some say not to believe in spirits, or things like that, I do. I totally believe that there are things like guardian angels. I feel that I have one. I drive 100 miles a day to and from work (two diff jobs) and while im scared shitless, I am ok.
Sometimes I feel like my grandather is watching over me when I am in a shitty situation. And its crazy...its been 10 years since he passed, and it feels like just yesterday, that we spoke. :'(
Glad to know that Im not the only one who feels this way.

I hope anyone who has had experiences posts them!
That guy John Edwards always gives me goosebumps, and every timemy three cats swivel their head in unison to look at something I dont see it makes me wonder............

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
I guess I am a skeptic, but I don't belive in any celestial beings. I think life just delt you a great hand and you are playing it right.

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
I believe as well. I have had many weird occurances in my life as well that I just can't explain myself, things that happened after my best friend was killed when I was 16- I feel a presence now and then.
My car accident in Northern California was completely unexplainable as to how I got out of my car alive and without any serious injuries.. I believe and always will.

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
I am with Cardinal, why on earth would one be protected from near death a thousand times, but an innocent child goes for a first time swim and drowns?
I think we have "luck." Now prayer i do believe in, asking for strength and such, but not angels, just does not seem fair to have a chosen few to have these. And others not. We should all escape death many times over if we had angels, and just die of old age it would seem. :-\

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
My feelings are very similar to Melonies. I believe everything happens for a reason(thus pertaining to Pamelas post) I've also survived many things that i wouldn't call just a coincidence. I think if you open yourself up to these things, you experience them more and more. When I'm really in touch with my spirit I'm more sensitive to such things and the inner workings or (core) of the world around me.
Great post. Thanks for starting it!

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
I used to think exactly like Pamela- I forrmed my original opinion on guardian angels in my teens, when the war in Bosnia was going on and the news was full of stories of women and children being murdered by the thousands, neighbors killing neighbors....yes, why should I think I deserve an angel when equally deserving people suffer and die, or are put through hell on earth?
Some people believe in "God's Plan" and I refused to think that was true because it seemed to let people off the hook for their actions OR laziness("I am following God's path in life that He chose for me- what is Freewill?")
So......I didn't want to humor anything that threatened my ideas about Life Events= Cause and Effect, You make your own luck.....etc.......
I don't have any answers for anyone, I'm still looking. I will say though, that I have felt great comfort from the feeling that something extra is with me. I feel fearless. Maybe it's just Faith?
Someone told me that "people come into your life for a reason and a season". I have also considered real live people to be "angels"- I have had the fortune to see great kindness and grace in people I have known. I have also been taught cruel, abrupt lessons by other, bad people (like the attempted kidnapper and the man who tried to drug me). The reason I marvel at my luck is that I have been given chances to learn hard lessons without the consequences. I fear that I'm always on the cusp of using up my luck for an entire lifetime and I'm going to get a smackdown, LOL!

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
I believe that every single person on this earth has help from the other side. Some people call it angels, some call it God, some call it luck. I personally have felt the loving presence of angels around me, especially during hard times, when I really needed someone's guidance. I remember when I was young, my sister woke me up in the middle of the night,(we shared a room,) and told me that she saw an angel sitting on the edge of my bed. She described her as a beautiful woman with long golden hair and soft wings, appearing almost completely translucent. She said she was staring at me with kind eyes and slowly running her fingers through my hair.
To me, it is so very comforting to know that nomatter what I have to go through in my life, I will never have to go through it alone. What's wonderful is that even if you don't believe in angels, or you think that you don't have any, they are still there, silently walking with you through this life.

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
Great, now I'm going to have weird dreams. I read this thread right before bed. :wide-eyed: :o

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
Im not gonna get too into it, but Pamela, I used to think the same way as you. When my grandfather died, I questioned my faith all the time. He was the best person and always treated my sis and me like his own daughters. In fact, I was 100 times closer to my grandfather than I was/am with my father...
The thing is, I always feel he is protecting me. He may not agree with everything I do (lol) but I feel like he is there. I cant even tell you all how MUCH it feels like I just spoke with him and its been over 10 years now. :( Its amazing.

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
Further adventures of my guardian angel: I have no one else to thank for saving me from injury by a glass ashtray thrown at me in a strip club, thrown by a drunken geek in khakis and a button-down shirt. I DIDNT EVEN aggravate the guy, he was just upset that the entire club and staff was ignoring his stupid too-drunk ass (we had to do that nicely even, because his radio station held a Birthday Party at our club and he was kind of a big wig- the club has a weekly promotion spot on the morning show.)
After he threw the ashtray at me, I had him thrown out, and I offered another customer a date with me if he would go outside and beat the guy up in the parking lot. Ashtray Thrower escaped with a stern talking- to.
So......a few days later, I sat beneath a lamp-post and mused over my luck of having not been injured in such a stupid horrible way. And a few days in to a dance booking, yet. When what else should happen but......
A sparrow flies into my face and hits me on the nose. Yes. The thought that had been going through my head was, Hmmm, maybe God has a Master Plan. I seem to be making out all right. Why do all these strange things happen to me? Why do I always luck out and escape harm? OW!! Damn, what was that? A BIRD?!?
So, readers at home, what do you think? Do I have a guardian angel? Is my guardian angel a bird? Why do some strip club customers do things that are ridiculous and barbaric? Are you laughing yet? I eventually was. It is funny.
PS There must be a God, two dancers I worked with prayed to God before their shift started and they made an extra one hundred dollars that day. I used to feel bad about invoking the Lord in the dressing room of a titty bar...no more!

Re:"Guardian Angels"?
Even many agnostics believe in the power of prayer. Human will can move mountains and do incredible and amazing things for ourselves and those around us. Having prayed can be rationalized as almost having a placebo effect of shifting motivation or outlook, thus creating a different destiny or path before us.
As far as guardian angels go, I do believe there is a distinct order of things and chains of events are modified through kharma, positive energy or other unseen forces. However you want to interpret this- be it a guardian angel, God, luck or some other form of assisted fate... it's all the same.
It would be impossible for anyone standing in my shoes to be a disbeliever. Every last shred of goodness in my life from the past 5 years has been the result of an incredible chain of lottery-odd freak accidents totally outside my own judgement or decision making process (in fact, completely opposite under normal circumstances). So yah, I'm quite a believer LOL.
