More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
Greetings boys and girls,
In the continuing effort to keep your websurfing private and your PC functioning properly, here's a list of fairly recently modified trojans and marketing data miners designed to get around Adaware, Norton, Spybot Hunt & Destroy and others you may be using.
These are gotten through normal websurfing or email attachments. They dont ask you to install or prompt for the okay- they just install themselves without any indication whatsoever.
Luckily, these are all kind enough to include uninstallers that work, so make a quick run into your Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and make sure you dont have these beasties:
Previously (in Add/Remove Programs)
TimeSynchronize/DealHelper: Look for TimeSynchronize and uninstall it first, then find DealHelper and uninstall it second. It wont allow the reversed order.
Current:
TVMedia: Look for TVMedia in add/remove programs. Click uninstall.
ZSearch: This one's been modified recently so most spyware detectors wont see it. Add/Remove and look for ZSearch to uninstall.
WinTools: This one is particularly nasty... and next to nothing detects it at this point. It launches a number of processes that slow your computer down. The uninstaller can be found in Add/Remove under "WinTools" but asks a series of questions to try and fool you into keeping it. Read each prompt VERY carefully.. it asks stupid double negative questions like: "Are you sure you don't want to discontinue uninstalling? Yes/No" Answer the retarded questions three times correctly, and it'll force a reboot and be gone shortly after.
Mash those data miners people! Return your computer to private and speedy web surfing.
Re:More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
don't forget look2me or zestyfind.
you need vx2finder to remove it. You know you have it when random ads appear when you are on the internet or if you do a google search, you are redirected to a different search engine.
It is a piece of sh.t.
Re:More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
I am getting about after 20 minutes of being on-line many many email pop-ups and a box saying my email was undeliverable???? I have not sent any emails? Is this one of the virus that i have?
When i start to see these email windows popping up all over my screen, i close them out quickly and shut down my computer. I can then reboot for 20 minutes again.... :(

Re:More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
Thanks Polecat, I hate this kind of s**t! As it turns out, we have it, too.
We have WinTools, but when I go to uninstall it, a box pops up that says "Other ad-powered software installed. Please uninstall it first."
And thats all, I have no idea what the other ad-powered software could be. Nothing seems to stand out.
There are about 4 "S3" programs listed on the Add/Remove list, like "S3display", "S3gamma", etc., and also there is "search assistant reset", and a search button reset".
We did have a lot of trouble with "ShopNav" for a while but we seem to have gotten rid of that, not without a lot of hassle, and i'm still not sure how, lol.
I missed your first post about this, as I presume there was from the title of this one, "More...". How long ago was it?
This stuff really sucks, how the hell can they get away with this?
They should be strung up by their thumbs...
Re:More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
Pamela,
I would guess you have a spyware, keystroke logger or virus that is trying to mail to people in your address book.
Run ad-aware and an updated antivirus on your computer. Hopefully that will find and kill whatever it is.
If not ... maybe monty or polecat can help.

Re:More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
You have spyware/adware/or a troj ect on your pc .. you have to identify the bug shut it down in your msconfig startup then go in and remove all the nasty things out of your registry (start/run/ type in regedit )
At they have a online virous scanner and a viropedia that will tell you exactly what to edit deleate ect to kill the nasty bug .
Re:More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
I thought this thread was about computer condoms. Sorry. My bad. :-[
Re:More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
I use Spyware Begone. It appears to have worked well, I also get no popups using pop-up blockers from Yahoo on IE, and the ones made for Netscape 7.1
I am also using Netscape more now, it works better for me.....
Re:More Windows Trojans to smack off your computer..
the problem with the adware /spyware ect programs is some of them are a trojan/adware and others cant keep up with the rate of bugs on the net . (some are good others are well just trying to get off the porch)
Trendmicro is one of the MAJOR pattern file creators to detect virous's and most of the big anti-virous software uses their pattern files (pc cillin as example)
the small program that downloads from their site for the AV scan is perfectly safe (ive used it tons of times ) and recomended it to others without any complaints ...
(except the crying from catching a bug on there pc lol)
As for the bugs that come thru a browser such as internet explorer .. those are the hard one to stay safe from even with scripts, active x ,a good pop-up stopper ,current anti virous program running and every thing else practally shut down ...they can still sneak in ..
Mozilla has a better ( little more secure web browser then the microsoft one ) but it can still catch these stupid bugs ( just not as often ) You may want to give that web browser a try .
Latley the scripting type virous's are more popular then the email ones and they are in the wild all over the place... even with a AV program , firewall, nat routor , ect they can still slip in thru your internet browser
why and how ... because you cliked on the link/webpage and gave it permission to .. (so welcome to the club of fighting off browser virous's ) we're all having lots of fun trying to deal with them ... NOT
Here ill give you all a web site that can help test your security on the net and teach ya how to set up for safer serfing ect .. (even without a firewall this program/ site is a great tool )
go to their security check and run it , it will tell you what ports ect are visiable on the net and how to close them .. one note when it fails you for a current antivirous its best to ignore it cause it will fail you even if your running there own AV program LOL
Any more questions ect feel free to ask I'll try to help ya out .
Excuss any typo's ect Ive been working 12's all week again and my brain is due for a good recharge .
