Going in for surgery
A while ago I started having problems with the vision in my left eye. It looked like a sun glare, and then worsened. By last night, I had no vision in the top field of my left eye, only a grey distorted fog directly ahead and clear peripheral vision to the left and bottom. It took my best friend nagging and other horrors for me to see a doctor- stoic to a fault, I am- but I finally went in. CAT scans are a fun way to spend a Saturday night. There is also a morbid sort of fun in hearing a medical doctor mutter "What on earth is THAT?" But I digress.
After being poked and prodded and having a parade of on-staff doctors and whatever interns they could dig up examine me and pull long faces, they diagnosed a retinal detachment. Apparently my retina no longer enjoys its current location and would like to pack up and move elsewhere. I've voiced similar sentiments myself, but wasn't aware that my body parts had such options. Surgery will be required to discourage it from detaching entirely. Lovely. My consultation is tomorrow evening and surgery will take place sometime after the surgeon's normnal working hours on Tuesday. From the minimal information that i have at the moment, it appears that surgery will take place under local anesthesia and be about four hours long. I'll go home immediately and spend a week or so face down on the couch. This will necessitate a hiatus- a good thing, most likely, as I can't really see right now anyway- so I shall check back in after I am up and about once more.
Pardon any typos, I'm working with one eye and can't quite see the screen. See you all in a week or so.

Re:Going in for surgery
Hang in there Lilith and you will be up and you will be up and holigizing in no time with all the important part reattached. Good luck and don't scratch. Get ready by having everything put above belt high. And get the slipon shoes out of the closet. Put chairs all over the place where you may need to to reach low things and don't feel bad if you need a baby-sitter/dofer for a while.
PS I got my mom through cataract surgery,
