I'm going to work everyday!!
Ok so I have finals the week at school after this weekend. I am going to work this week as well as studing my butt off! Then we have a week break at school. I decided I am going to work every day of the week. I have been really slacking at work latley ( like not going at all) I don't know why but I think I should make up for all that lost time. Has anyone ever worked 10 days in a row dancing? I hope I don't get too burt out but I have a vacation coming in August so I really need to buckle down and work!! Any tips how to not get crazy during this upcoming work week? :)

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
Oh yeah and one of the other reasons I am doing this is to check out what other days are like. I never work Sun-Wed so I have no idea. They can be bad or good I hear. Usually there are more older gentlemen insted of bachelor party/ young guy swamped Saturdays YUK! :D

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
Ooh, just be careful Hunny, don't burn yourself out. I used to do 12-15 day stretches at a time (It took me awhile to learn the world "NO"), most of those were double shifts..
I had quite enough of that after a while.. lol

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
wow.. i can barely work a day or two a week without getting burnt out. (but i also go to school)
If i had the ability to.. i would work more often, you girls are lucky you can pull off 15 days straight!! omg

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
LOL Tampa.. I remember most nights, I'd be slapping myself (literally!) to stay awake for the drive home.. Dancing 16 hours a day is hell! I remember the last time I finished (I think it was a 13 day stretch), I took a week off and just lazed around. I hurt so bad.. LOL

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
Good luck Lilac! Are you sure you want to do 10 days in a row? Well, think of it this way:
2 days on, 2 days off. Hussle your ass off for 2 days, and the third day, relax a little, spend more time with the regulars, and/or let customers come to you. This way you will burn out less. Even if you are chilling on days 3,6, and 9, you are still at work making money!
Just an idea.

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
I once worked a 70 hour week and i SWARE I would never do it again. By day 6 I was snappy with the customers, every muscle in my body ached and I was so tired I though I was gonna die if I didn't get any sleep. But if you really need the money then go for it you could also work a double every other day to give your body some recoup time.

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
I worked in New Orleans this past November through a series of conventions that lasted almost 3 weeks. I worked for 19 days in a row; took the last day off and had a LONG massage! I made about 10K so it was worth it moneywise.
You need to take your individual situation into account and decide if it'll be worth it for you.
As for working Sun-Wed, money I make on weekends is mostly volume, whereas I agree that an older, higher-spending crowd comes in during the week.
Example: just this week I made $525 on Monday mostly through a VIP with one guy, whereas I made about the same last Saturday all in dances. Guess which night I was more tired?
If you go for it, take Advil when needed, and if you feel your body is being abused, take a night off.

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
i haven't been in in almost 2 weeks (family shit followed by a terrible breakout...ugh). i'm really hoping i can go in on saturday. and i really, really hope the manager isn't mad at me. i'm gonna try to work a 8-10 days straight, just to recoup the money i've "lost" by not showing up all this time.
i wish you as much luck as i wish myself...a whole lot.

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
Every other day works pretty well for me. I couldn't do more than 5 days a week , a regular job sure but dancing is alot more taxing than a stationary jobs imo

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
It all depends on what your own body can deal with. More often than not, Sun thru Wed have lower earnings potential than Thu thru Sat, so be careful that you don't waste too much energy early in the week and then find that your "batteries are going dead" just about the time that customers really start rolling in later in the week! In my own experience I've found that the potential earnings that I lose by not hustling due to "dead batteries" on a Friday and Saturday night cost me more in the long run than the money I earned on Monday & Tuesday !

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
I have done a 7 day week thing but I cant hack it. I work 4-5 days a week now and that quite enough for me.
I work MON TUE WED break FRI SAT break
Sometimes Ill take one of the 1st 3 days off if I have something else planned such as a ladies nite out or a friends B-day. My plan works well for me and I never really feel pooped out. Always make sure you get some relaxation and rest. Dont overdo yourself!

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
I burn out just trying to work five days a week. I make just as much money working three good days a week and not being to burnt out to function in the rest of my life.

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
I worked 11 days in a row, ONCE. I worked 7 or 8 a few times. It is definitely not easy and not something you should try to do often. After the 11 day stint I had to take 4 days off to recharge. After the 7-8 day stints I have to take like 3 days off.
I just went back to work tonight after 2 full weeks off, which I obviously needed. I work my ass off and when I wake up one day feeling the need to skip out I don't sweat it or make myself feel guilty, just go about business and enjoy the day off. One of the greatest things about this job is we can do that! We can just take off a day or few now and then when we feel burnt out. Listen to your body and go with it. When you start feeling guilty for not going it's time to go back (which you apparently are now). I dunno if I'd recommend working 10 days in a row on your return, but I'd definitely say you should work a regular fulltime week (like 5 days / week). From experience I can tell you that 10 days in a row will make you want to take time off again so it's not necessarily worth it, unless you just NEED money that quick for some reason. Good luck hun!
Also I find that earnings drop when I work too much. I start making less per hour / per night. So in the long run it's better to find the happy medium where you maximize your earning potential without burning yourself out. For me it's 4-5 days per week. If I want to work longer shifts I'll only do 4, shorter shifts I'll do 5. Either way that's the max for me - anymore and my earnings drop quickly, to the point where I'm usually better off just working the regular week because the weekly total is the same with the longer hours as with regular.

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
I do it all the time....as long as you see the end in sight.
I go an entire month without a day off and really, it doesn't bother me. I think it's because I only work 4-5 hour shifts and I have the rest of my day free. Plus I have nothing better to do. I don't burn out until after about 3 months.

Welcome to workaholic anonymous!
Hi. I"m Gynger and I am also a workaholic.
The longest I have gone is about 30 something days, and at the end, I was physcially as well as mentally exhausted. I took five days off and began all over again.
One thing to keep in mind is to make sure you get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, and avoid alcohol and eat healthy- this always helps me to keep on top of stuff. I actually do better when I work like this- sounds silly, but if I am working three days, off two then on again, I lose sight of stuff and I become lazy- I do better when I work a full ten-fifteen days straight.

Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
I am with you guys..I love dancing and making $$$. So when I am able to I practically live at the club..lol
-
Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
wow.. the money i could make if i "lived at the club"
i havent been back in forever! :(
-
Re:I'm going to work everyday!!
if i only had to stay 4 hours, i'd be in waaaaay more often. shifts can be only 4 hours...or they can be up to 8. when i go in, i have no idea when the manager will let me leave. i'm sure if i came in much more, i'd be able to leave sooner...it's just that period of overwork i'd have to go through before i'd be able. that's what blows.

Re: I'm going to work everyday!!
Good luck on working that much! As someone else on here said, it all depends on your specific situation. Do you get tired easily? Are there many people at your club who you have to always ask for dances, or do you have your regulars that you KNOW will be there? Do you dance three song sets 6 times a night, or do you dance 2 song sets 3 times a night?
I, personally, get angry when I do this job for too long. At this point, I only set aside 3 days out of the week to do this, which keeps me mentally sane. I used to try to work more, but I get very irritable and snappy...I become very jaded. However, that is just me...some people handle things in different manners.

Re: I'm going to work everyday!!
This thread really goes to show how much dancing takes a toll on your body. Most people at "regular" jobs can work 5-6 days and just need a good nights sleep.
Strippers...oh no you NEED 2 days off each week at least just to rest and collect thy self. But, in the end you make more than most peolpe do anyways and you dont have to ask if they want to supersize.
Most weeks I would work 3-5 days depending on how much physically I was up to it.

Re: I'm going to work everyday!!

Same for me.
I worked 5 nights a week all fall and went to school 16 hrs/week too! I got severely depressed and began acting very irrationally (possibly due to lack of sleep & the liquor / hangover schedule). There wasn't any time for anythig besides class and work. My earnings dropped and my mood was wack!
But, in the summer I can work much more easily and do a 4/5 day week no sweat. When I have only dancing to focus on, my money is so much better.
I never went to work every day because some days I'm just not able to deal with it. My personal life needs to be in order for me to go to work, can't be amidst any drama.

Re: I'm going to work everyday!!
Tonight's shift is my 9th day in a row! I do this sometimes so that I can take longer time periods off. I'm taking all of next week off, then I'll be right back at it again. I still have to work tomorrow and Sunday before I'm outta here.
I have been slacking since my BA. I normally work 4-5 shifts a week, but have only been doing 2-3 (if I'm lucky). Spring is almost here so I am working hard to be ready for the summer bachelor party season.
I will probably hit the road soon for a 4-6 week stint. After that I will stay home for a while. I work 6 days a week when I'm on the road.
The funny thing about me is that the more sore and tired I am, it seems the more money I make
:P
So who knows what is going through guys heads anyway?
