Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
I've been dancing for about a month and on Tuesday after dancing for one of my regulars for 2 hours I discovered when I went home that I had developed hives on the areas of my body that came into contact with his clothing. Since I'm new my lap dancing skills pretty much include sliding down and then crawling back up the customer. I've taken some benedryl (sp?) to no avail and will be going to a doc in the box tomorrow to see what they can do. I've never had this happen before and was wondering if anyone else had? It sucks 'cuz I can't go back to work until the tiny little red welts are gone and I'm also going to have to figure out how to avoid this in the future. Guess air dances are the only way. Any one have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Joelle

It's so weird that you mention that. I've had a similar situation which FIANLLY just got resolved after a month of HORRID itchy UGLY hives. It doesn't relate to dancing, but something you said can connect it to dancing... It turns out that I was allergic to Tide the laundry detergent. It took a while for me to figure that out. so.... you maybe allergic to a certain brand of detergent his clothes were washed in. Just a thought. You might wanna get some allergy patch testing done. HIVES SUCK! >:(
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
This sometimes happens with me if the customer uses a cheap cologne.
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
yeah, it sounds like something from his clothing probably the detergent. The only suggestion I can think of would be to carry a big silky cloth and drape it over him. He'll probably like it for the slide factor.
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
what are you allergic to?
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
Yep, it's probably an allergy to either the detergent or the fabric softener...
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
a lot detergent while not making me break out in hives, makes me itch a lot. so either rinse my clothes twice or use less detergent that recommended. usually the later- my clothes still get cleaned and i don't itch so badly or as much. sometimes even the stuff that's supposed to be so you don't react can make you do so. try switching your detergent first. if that doesn't work, try what i've done
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
Advice from Mojo Jojo's Mommy - take some benedryl.
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
yeah but a.n.a.l.a. she can't tell the guy to please run his clothes through the rinse cycle twice. haha well maybe she can?

Hmmm....perhaps a line of products for clients!
Do you go to strip clubs? Do you enjoy it when the dancer straddles your lap and puts her boobs in your face? Then be KIND and use our STRIPPER FRIENDLY PRODUCTS. Cologne that won't cause hives....detergent that won't give her rashes.... dollar bills guaranteed to not cause paper cuts. Use STRIPPER FRIENDLY products...so your stripper can be friendly to you!
...batteries not included.

:rotfl: Good giggles...
Anywho ~ I kinda have a similar problem... cept I don't get hives. I've broken out with acne. :irked: It's on my back, & my butt. The girls I work with think it's from the stage & pole... the cleaner the club uses on them. Cos they said some of them have broken out from it too. My club's really clean... it's a very nice club. I just don't understand where it's coming from. My neck has kinda broken out a lil bit too. :-\ It's upsetting me - like depressing me... cos I shower before & after work, I use acne wash... and it's still present. I've been at this club for a month now & I'm just tired of it. I'm thinking about quitting cos of this. Which is really sad...cos I love the club, I love my co-workers, & I love the clients. It's just an awesome atmosphere. Anywho - any tips would be much appreciated. Thankies, :)

yes, the acne on the butt and back seems to afflict almost all of us at some point regardless of the club we're at. baby wipes and Anti-bacterial gel seem to work the best for most.
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
You need to determine two things:
1) What exactly it is that you are allergic to that has a reaction strong enough to yield hives.
2) Counteract with an appropriate antihistimine.
The most common source of hives amongst those with allergies is usually pet dander. It's quite possible the customer has a dog or cat and if you are allergic to certain breeds of dogs/cats, this can very often cause nasty, painful hives.
As it's isolated to just the areas of contact, I'd expect it's a particular pet breed type or detergent/fabric softener. This is actually a good thing since if it turns out to be a detergent/fabric allergy, this can put you on guard if you ever have to wear apparel washed by someone else (hospital stay, friends garments, etc.etc.).
Benedryl is a decent antihistimine, but I'd recommend seeing your doctor and getting something longer lasting and more effective. I'm TOTALLY hating the FDA's removal of Seldane from the market several years ago as that was my ace in the hole against getting any form of hives due to allergies. But there are modern , low cost prescription antihistimes with low/no side-effects that can work for 10-12 hours solid.

ahhh. i got it. i missed the part about the customer's clothing. i thought she was allergic to her clothes! hmm that sucks. have no clue what you should do about that then. maybe airdance?
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
hey nekkostar, is that benji from good charlotte on your avatar?
Re:Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
LMAO!!! No dear, it's not. I can't wait to tell him you thought that, great giggles! Lol, he's my "future hubby"... (we have a thing if we aren't married by a certain age deal, lol)... but, he's a friend from Adelaide, Australia. :cheesy: I spose I can kinda see the Benji part. Not for sure though - cos I'm not a fan of them - so I don't know exactly what the kid looks like.

Re: Help! Hives from dancing - has this happened to you?
I get small rashes sometime from customers (especially with stubble) coming into contact with my neck, cleavage, etc. If you're allergic to certain detergents, that's a tricky problem, but maybe you can reduce contact with the customer's clothes by wearing different outfits. Maybe something that's sheer, but covers more of your body? I've seen girls look super sexy in outfits with long sleeves, or micro-fishnets under booty shorts -- at least there's more of a barrier between your skin and the offending detergent without "covering up" too much of yourself...

This thread is seven years old. She's probably solved the problem, but that's good advice.
