Women Stage Breast-Feeding Protest at Mall

Hey, more power to them! I really see nothing wrong with it.
One of my friends experienced something similar to this years ago. She was told to "take the baby and nurse her in the bathroom". She shot back with.. "How would you like it if you had to eat your dinner on the toilet?"
That did it. She never heard anything else from the person.
I agree with one of the quotes on the article. If it bothers you, don't look. It's that simple.
This is one of the most natural things in the world. Babies eed from the beginning of time. I had alot of experiences with people not minding their own business while I breastfeed three kids.
It really bothers me when people are so untight about breastfeeding, it is the most natural thing in the world and people portray it like there's something wrong with it. I feel this discourages a lot of new mothers from breastfeeding and we all know mothers milk is best for the child.
Well, I still breastfeed my daughter (going on 2 years old). Some people look, but don't say anything. I haven't heard anyone say something so insensitive about feeding her someplace else. I have heard people say, "Isn't that baby too old to be nursing?" Which I just smile at...my daughter has been sick ONE time since being born...she's radiant, secure, and completely healthy. She is also extremely intelligent and will learn just about anything after seeing it done once or twice. Is it a result of the breastfeeding? I may never know...but, I do know that most babies will ween themselves when they are ready...so, whenever she's ready, she'll ween...until then, I enjoy the times while I can. :D
There was a sit-in at BK here a few months ago. For the same reasons. One of the mothers got told the same bathroom comment and she shot back, "Well, with as clean as you keep your bathroom, why don't you herd all of your customers in there and I'll just wait here."
Considering the high number of people going through the mall, I could perhaps see the security guard's concern. There's a lot of wackos out there. But the restroom? Bleck.
:yuck:
You'd think since breastfeeding as been around for eternity and with the high number of shoppers who just happen to be mothers with infant children, that malls (essp. an upscale mall like that) would come up with some sort of lounge where they could nurse in private. Of course, look how long it took them to come up with the idea of a diaper changing station.
But but but... what if a some little kid walks by and sees the woman's breast? Won't they be scarred for life?
HEHE - JUST KIDDING ;).
LOL...it's funny...parents don't want their kids seeing a baby being breastfed, but they'll let them watch killer/slasher movies with full on sex scenes. ??? WTF? :D
LMFAO.. I agree, Venus. Or, how about Video Games? They have no problems with letting their kids play those. I would say they're a lot more disturbing than seeing a woman nursing her child in public.Quote:

it's so wierd how the most natural things are reguarded as weird and the most abnormal things are promoted as normal by the media. For example if I feed my daughter an avocado in public I get strange looks, but if a mother of father feeds their kid a big mac it is business as usual. I don't get it, i'm weird becasue I want my child to be healthy. Shit, she's almost 3 and has NEVER been sick, NEVER. None of these parents feeding their kids shit can claim that. Plus she is extremely advanced for her age. I personally feel that for the first 10-20 years when a child's brain, bones, and body are growing that they should not be fed anything but the most ideal foods. We don't let them drink or smoke or do drugs but we let them eat at McDonalds? WTF, it's not fair to the kids. Same with breastfeeding, every child is designed, by nature, to be breastfed. Plain and simple. No powderd synthetic chemicals will ever match the benefits of breastmilk. Look, scienists just discovered that breastmilk contains DHA (an essential nutrient for the brain) yes formula did not. So then the just started adding it recently. Think of all the thousands of other nutrients in breastmilk that are lacking in the power. It should be looked at as wierd if a mother is NOT breastfeeding! What is this world coming to?
Oh Crap, don't even get me started on this because I have heard it all as well- I agree with what Ryan and all of you have said.. its a natural thing, but yet people have a problem with it and it seems that they are just complete morons. They will allow their kids to be around the most assanine things out there, but won't allow their child to see a mother breast feed her child? WTF? I agree.. what the HELL is the world coming to?
I can say that I tried to breastfeed my daughter, but I was ill when I had her, then was on so many medications that I couldn't breastfeed her because I was worried about the medications that I was taking. I am thankful that she is here and that we are both here- but I really wish that I would have been able to breastfeed her.
I personally think its a beautiful thing for a mother and child to share that bond, let alone all the benefits of breast feeding.
Venus, yes, breastmilk is soooooooo healthy for a baby that they usually ARE less likely to get sick, they are usually smarter, and their brains develop faster than a baby who has not been breastfed. I saw a picture in a hopsital once about it.... all the benefits and such.
When I see a woman breastfeeding, though, I dont look or stare because I just dont wanna look wacko or make the woman feel weird. Though I do think its a natural thing and people should get over themselves.
Our local radio station had a "debate" over this. This mother called in and said, "I can't stand seeing mothers do this. I take my child to the mall to have fun, and he sees this. How am I supposed to explain this to him?" I was like WTF??
She must have been one of those babies raised on formula before they added DHA...LOL. The last time I was at the mall, there were women walking around in halter tops that barely held their "assets" in. I've never seen anyone walk up to one of them and say, "Excuse me, but you are dressed inappropriately." But, a mother (most breastfeeding mom's don't whip out the breast and make sure everyone can see--and also cover up the baby feeding for privacy to the baby) who looks like she is breastfeeding a child gets banished. Terrible, terrible, terrible. God save the person who ever interrupts my child while she is breastfeeding or has the audacity to try to make a special bond like this seem "bad". :D
Breastfeeding is probably THE most natural act that can take place, and has been done since the beginning of time. There is no formula that can be created in a lab that can come close to matching mother's milk. The child and mother are generally both impacted extremely well physically and emotionally.
Parents who breastfeed their children and give them wholesome fruits and vegetables should be commended and not given weird looks and rude comments. It should be the parents that give their kids a large fry, a double whopper, and a coke, who should be looked down upon. Childhood obesity are rising at extreme rates. The younger generation has a projected lower life expectancy than the previous generation simply because they are fat. And once the pounds are put on at such early ages, it makes is so much more difficult to lose it later on in life. The kids who eat avocados and apples when they are toddlers are going to be significantly less likely to be keeling over in their 40s and 50s of clogged arteries and heart attacks.
To bad society is messed up and looks down upon the parents who do healthy things for their kids are looked at like there is something wrong with them.
:jumps off of soapbox:
People would gawk at one of my sisters when she was nursing her son (my nephew) until he was 3ish-4ish, I can't remember...he was pretty old. But anyways, now he is 13 years old, 5'6, playing AAA hockey and is basically a genius. The reason I say this is, he is the most well rounded person I know...and barely into adolescence...so for the people that think breast feeding is "gross" or "wierd"...then they obviously don't care much about their children's futures because in my opinion it makes a world of a difference. And, although I don't have any of my own as of late (I think? :o) I know that if you have a baby that's hungry...you're gonna feed it...or ELSE. haha.
babies need to be fed.. besides its not like you cant buy things to cover the baby and breast like those wrap around blinket things.. i dont mind breastfeeding at the mall. they might get people staring though..
A friend's aunt breastfed both of her boys until they were 3/4. They are now top of their classes at Yale and Harvard. Hmmmm...well, hey...if it works!Quote:

I never even notice when a woman is breastfeeding. It's not gross to me, nor is it sexual (Probably the only thing involving breasts that isn't). It's just part of the scenery to me.
People make too much of a big deal with these ridiculous victorianesque morals they pretend to have (I'd love to get a look at the porno collection of anyone who objects to something like that).
