if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do different?
ive been a dancer for two years, and next month im moving to a totally new city and working at a new club and have the opportunity to start my life as a dancer over again with a clean slate. i admit ive made a LOT of mistakes these last two years. i take the summers off because they arent good for me money wise anyway so right now i have the time to focus my energy and recall mistakes ive made as a dancer and a person and see what i can do to keep from making them again.
what do you wish you had done differently or what would you go back and change if you could?
or what is some advice you have aquired in regaurds to dancing that you would like to share with me?

SAVE MORE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
saving money was #1 on my list too.
also, reflecting back, the time in my past when i was the happiest and most productive at stripping i was working a very strict schedual of 2 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on, 2 days off. being in a set routine really helped me feel stabilized in an otherwise unstructured working environment.

Spend only what you need, save the rest. Make your money and get out. Don't fall for pick up lines (did this the first time I danced) and don't get involved with dressing room drama (did this the first time I danced as well). Be the golden saucer for your managers, if you schedule yourself to work, don't miss a shift and never complain about anything unless you are getting abused or violated.

I had a strict Tuesday through Saturday schedule that I would ahere to four to six weeks. Then I would take two weeks off at the most.

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
Yeah, I have to agree with the saving money thing. I wished I would have saved more during the first year that I danced. And I also would have thought more carefully about loaning outfits to people.

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
I would say everything that these girls mentioned.
Obviously, save more money, dont get involved in any drama, and work harder than ever. :)
Make goals (small ones that can lead to big ones) and dont let slumps ruin your goals.

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
What I would've done differently:
1. I wish I started dancing earlier (I started at age 23)
2. Not have gotten so drunk :drunk:
3. Gone to a club a few times beforehand to observe how the girls dance. I didn't know what the hell I was doing the first few times I danced!
4. Worked more often
5. Saved more money

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
I wouldn't change anything. I started dancing when I was 28/29..and I believe that I did much better because I was older, knew myself already and didn't get sucked into the drama...etc.

Definitely words of wisdom...in other words, DONT TURN INTO A PRIMA DONNA! lol. we all tend to a little bit tho-

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
Remember that your friendships outside of work are very important. Take the time to get involved and meet new people in your new city. You are only young once!
Done differently: Believed in myself more. That has only come with age!

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
I think I did things right when I started dancing - I took it seriosly, worked a lot, and saved a hell of a lot of money. I was too paranoid to get in any trouble. It took me a few years to get comfortable and start making mistakes - mostly dressing room drama and not saving enough money.
So my advice is this:
Set clear goals and remind yourself of them.
Figure out how much oney you need to live on and save the rest.

1 SAVE
2 HUSTLE HARDER

Excellent advice...
I started young, and blew a lot of money. If I saw it and wanted it, I bought it, with no thought about tomorrow. After I had my son, my entire outlook changed, and I became very conservative with my money. Besides hating the state I live in, I'm doing just fine today.
I guess I wouldn't change a thing! ;D

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
Actually, I did manage my money pretty well, even when I first started. I had already graduated from college and had another job and I was nearly 23 when I started. I did start investing in my twenties, but I spent it on another college degree and a lot of traveling to other countries and states. So, by looking back, I have actually done OK.
I did have one year where I just hated myself and I was doing a lot destructive drugs and partying. I quit on my own, theater helped and I have never looked back ;)
I enjoy it more now, doing it part-time and being a little older. The BS just makes me laugh and smile whereas when I was younger, I was more defensive and insecure.
Cheers,
Corey

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
Work more, save more, spend less... my SO is a spoiled child of wealthy parents who doesn't have to work and we've been together for 4 years, I've been dancing for 2. Living with her has kind of made me act like her too, and that's not good for me. I'd work 1 to 2 days/wk at most and just live... that was all good but now we're not as tight as we used to be and I'm starting from scratch. So definitely save more, work more, spend less.

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
another thing, pretty minor though, i want to try a new look/persona while working. there were times when i would deny myself things like edgy hairstyles, piercings, or tattoos that i wanted but i thought customers wouldnt like and i would make less money. eventually i felt like i was compromising my personality to do what i THOUGHT would make other people happy, but it depressed me because i felt like i wasnt living my life for me anymore.

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
I got too caught with the club and let my life revolve around it in the early days, instead going to school. (although I am in school now, I could have been finished by now).
Yep, guilty of getting involved in dressing room drama.
Wish I could have hustled better back then. I was just so nice. This guy blew me off one night for another dancer then the next night he appologized with a $100.00 bill. But I was to nice to accept it! ??? What was I like back then. LOL These days I would have said how much he upset me and conviced him to give me $200.00 LOL. O.K. Mabye I'm still not that Jaded. Yet.

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
I would have traveled earlier on rather than at the end of my career and I would have bought fewer costumes overall, I was a sucker for a cool costume :D

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
Don't be afraid to go to a "high-end" club that offers great earnings but is strict in hiring. Also, don't be afraid to go to a "low-end" club that where you might totally be able to bank as the hottest chick.
Take care of yourself! Do your hair, nails, makeup, clothes, like a stripper would. Obviously, save money, but also invest in stripping....
Oooooh, ooooh. One thing that I wish I had done is to CULTIVATE MORE REGULARS. As much as I hate the drama that comes with regualrs, they are a good steady source of income. Create a web site with your strippername, photos, and schedule. Make business cards, or get their information.
Yes, I am sure this is illegal in most places, but keeping regulars requires you to be proactive in maintaing your sales relationship, so figure out a way!!!
Good luck!

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
I wish that I had always remembered that it is a business. From dressing room drama, to spending too much on costumes, to being nice to customers to my own detriment... there were things that I made about me and my wants, when I should have remembered that I was there for one reason, and one reason only. I would have been a better dancer, a better hustler, a better employee... if I had just remembered to not deviate from the goal.

Re:if you could start your stripping career over again what would you do differe
This is just sort of a memory :)
When I was paying for my third degree, to save money for school, I would actually buy white lingerie from a generic dept. store and dye them in my sink with Rit dye :o
I was so envious of the girls w/ great costumes, but I really did want to finish working on this theater program.
So, that would be my compromise for a new costume ;D
I am so thankful for ebay and trashy nowadays.
Cheers,
Corey
