Noisy Apartment Neighbors
I must be getting old. :geezer:
Not sure why I'm asking this here, but I had to call the cops on one of my neighbors last night. Seems these college aged kids just don't seem to understand the glorious joy in shutting the hell up. Not that I'm angry or anything.
:beat:
The poll was meant to be funny (yes, you can relax), but I'd like some serious solutions on what usually works best. Notice I did not put "go over there yourself and tell them to quiet down" in the poll. In my experience, that has not been very effective and may incite retaliation since they'll then know who the complaintant was should I need to notify the landlord or police later and they get cited or evicted as a result.
:whistleblower:
Calling the landlord at midnight is NOT an option, and I feel like an idiot disturbing the police for such a petty thing. Of course, there was this gal on COPS last night who made a cop spend two days looking for her damned dog, so thats what cops are for right?
:cop:

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
I have found that lobbing a few well placed hand grenades usually quiets people down. Sure, the intial explosions, screaming and ensuing bloodbath may be a tad worse then the original noise they were making, but after they breathe their last gasps and expire (assuming they werent outright blown to peices), its blissful silence for the rest of the night. You can then get some wonderful sack time with your Serta.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
No one inconsiderate enough to make over-loud racket will be fazed by Johnny Law telling them to shut up. The landlord, most probably. You, no.
Creative solutions: invite a ladyfriend over and f*ck and scream like banshees. Rent some Chuck Norris movies and turn the TV all the way up. Start researching biofeedback screaming therapy. With the windows open.
Or, when they start up, stick your head out the window and yell threats. You might have to get into a fistfight, but what's a little sparring? They'll probably be stoned anyway..best of luck.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
Heh.. Well, I have noisy little twit teenagers living downstairs from me. They have parties at all hours of the night, leave their empty beer bottles on the front lawn, and blast their music so that the whole neighborhood can hear it.
I'm the type of person that if you piss me off, and disrupt my daughter's sleep because of your ignorance, I'm damn well going to tell ya. I know you didn't put that option in the poll, but that's exactly what I do.. LOL..
The neighbors right next door to me, also have a 1 year old. So, last week, the husband comes knocking on my door asking if I can hear the music from the downstairs. I said "Hell yeah I can". So, he runs right down there and tells them to knock it off or he's going to kick their asses.. LOL. It worked. It's been perfect since then. We'll see if it lasts.
If it doesn't, and they start up again, I'll go to the landlord. That's probably the best option I'd say. The landlord can lay down the law, and if they don't listen, there's a good chance they'll be evicted.
So I do recommend notifying your landlord. If you can't get a hold of him/her, call the police. It's disrupting the peace, so they can definitely handle something like that.
Good Luck Hunny!

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
Wait until their mothers come to visit, and then tattle. Or go outside for a nice neighborly visit, and nonchalantly mention this or that professor of theirs who you go drinking with.
I've never had the mother ploy fail me. Landlords may make people a bit nervous, the police are only effective if they aren't drunk yet, but an embarrassed mother is worse than a rabid tiger on the loose. It's best if you get real chummy with her. Invite her to a barbecue and wink over the grill at her seething brat.

Damn straight, Lillith.
You can't sue your mother and no matter your age she can get away with boxing your ears. Plus they get them special guilt giving lesssons on tape in the delivery room. You know why they keep new mommies in the hospital for a couple days--training.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
I had noisy neighbors once...I had gone down to their place several times asking them to "please turn down the music...I have to get up early for work." Well, as soon as they closed the door, the music cranked back up. Even when the cops showed up, they would turn the music down for a little while and then it went right back up. Nothing stopped them...Ssooooooo....I knew that they slept during the day and partied all night. So, I waited until they were all passed out and then turned up the stereo to ear-shattering loud (with the speakers laying on chairs to face the floor); then I just grabbed a basketball and dribbled it on the floor throughout the apartment while wearing clog shoes (with the hard soles). One of the girls came up and asked for me to stop because they had been out all night, had hang-overs and were trying to sleep. I said, "Oh, sure!" *wink, wink*. At that point, I waited about 5 minutes (enough time for her to get back downstairs and collapse into bed) and then started all over. I stopped after about 2 hours (got tired of doing it)...but continued the next day and for the rest of the week, I continually made the noise. By the end of the week, they were exhausted and from that point on when they had parties, they kept the noise level down.
But, I really think that you should try Lilith's approach...if they don't listen, then you do what PJ suggested. :D

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
I had a problem like this once. The neighbors below me had wild parties all the time. I went down and introduced myself to them as their new neighbor upstairs and a recent hire on the local police force.
They moved out two days later.
Problem solved. Life is good.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
To retaliate, I crank Slayer or some hard gangsta rap when my dickhead neighbors are asleep.
But they might like that. Try blasting Yanni or Beethoven at 5am. haha hopefully they have an 8am class. heeheehee.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
I like these ideas, especially the police force one!

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
Ok this worked for me once its gross but hey it worked.
First buy yourself a dead chicken at a hen house ask for the head to be cut off then get some beads.
Buy a statue of a demon remember to wear gloves because this will most def be reported to the cops.
Place items at the persons door with a note have someone else write the note cause you dont want this coming back to you and biteing you in the ass.
The note should consite of a 5 pointed star and the words the dead want to rest in piece or you will!
you will be sleeping like a baby in no time.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
Noisy neighbors suck!!!I just want to drive a backhoe into their living rooms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
hmmm...as one of those "college aged kids" myself....I would suggest politely telling them to shut the hell up. Works for me. If that doesnt work, THEN call the landlord. Its your home, nobody should have the right to make you feel miserable.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
I live next to a Marine that has friends over all the time,so this is self explanatory.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
This reminds me of the 2nd apt I ever rented. Ground floor level (never again!) When I got in there, the ceiling was very "dimpled". Found out why. Prev. tennet where i lived used a broom to "tap" ceiling. The couple upstairs, middle aged drunks, partied all night every night, including the moving of heavy furniture, passing out & hitting the floor from standing up. If talking to LL doesn't help, I wouldn't hesitate calling cops. Why should you have to put up w/that? Btw, I took pretty much the passive approach in above situation (moved after lease up) but, the guy actually drove a van thru a brick wall of the bldg., crashing into my next door neighbor's bedroom.

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
reminds me of when my ex's neighbor told her that I should put a pillow over her head :o ;)

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
I read somewhere to record their whole party. And when they finally want to go to sleep play it back to them in it's entirety just as loud. You might not get any sleep for the night, but they WILL get the message!

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
I had noisy neighbors about 6 months ago. They live in the apartment directly behind mine (our bedrooms were attatched). They were two middle aged lesbians who loved to have NOISY sex at 3am every other night. The first time it happened it was kinda funny, but after they woke me up the third or fourth time, I just wanted them to stop. I didn't know what to do about it (I didn't want to call the cops) so there were a few nights of very loud music... Now that they have moved out though, I kind of miss them. They were entertaining...

It would have been great at maybe 10pm or anytime during the day, but 2 hours before you have to get up!? They did spark some fun on my side of the wall a few times though... ;)

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
move...the situation can...and more than likely will get worse if you report the assholes...and management don't seem to care who they rent to these days...
if i had the money...i'd move from 'motel hell' myself...'cause the folks around me are loud as hell...until security comes around...which is quite often these days...

Re:Noisy Apartment Neighbors
Personally, I like the "just tell them" approach recommended by Rhiannon, VenusGoddess, and Trix. :)
If that doesn't work you still have the option of a backhoe, global thermonuclear anihilation, or even rap music. :bomb:
