CO I didnt think it was coming out for another week or so ??? I love first person shooters..my first was Wolfenstein back in the day. Love em all, especially ID Software games. Carmack rules!

OMG!!! Wolfenstein! Doom! I haven't played those games in SOOOO LONG! Ever play Diablo? That was a fave of mine too.
Well, I spent a few hours playing it last night (just hit the street yesterday) and it's scared the piss out of me more than a few times. It's actually hard to play for a prolonged period of time because your paranoid tension becomes uncomfortable.
You need a kick ass rig to play it, but if you have the goods, it looks and plays amazing.
the original DOOM was great...but im not into computer games anymore...now i just waste my time on the computer on this damn forum.
I played till late last night - BIG THUMBS UP
I dont think my set up is anywhere near powerful enough to play Doom 3. I have my IT looking into itQuote:

Ive just been informed that the game should run pretty well on my machine at work. But my home system is definitely too wimpy. That sucks.
Wonder if Mrs FBR would mind if a spend a few more hours here at the office? Whats the difference between 12 hrs a day or 13 or 14? ;D I know once I start playing the damn thing I'll be hooked.

It is a little choppy at times on my box at home even on the low quality setting. Athlon 1800+, 512MB ram, ATI Radeon 9800 with 128MBs, and an Audigy 2 sound card (really great 3-D sound effects in this game). I am guessing it needs a faster CPU. The low quality setting still looks very good at 1024x768 or 1280x1024, but at the medium quality setting it is too choppy to be playable.Quote:

I have a GForce 4 Ti 4200 vid card Im not sure about the ram on it.
My processor is an Athelon XP1800+ and I have one gig of system RAM.
The game may be choppy...guess I'll have to see how it plays.

Can anyone post some screen shots of it? I've been hearing it's the "Most realistic killing game out there." and was wondering just how real it all looks.
Well nobody is going to mistake it for realistic looking. As far pics go, use any search engine... you should get a zillion links to various pics.
I actually dont care for it too much.. and am pretty dissapointed by it.
The dynamic loading is a pain in the ass- where the thing swaps around most every door causing a hiccup. id Software also made a HUGE mistake firing Paul Steed as the animation just flatly sucks. The creatures all shuffle their feet and have NO realistic motion. They all look stiff and un-lifelike. What a let down!
The lighting and shader effects look okay on surfaces, but truly- beefy textures from past games have looked nearly as good. The new lighting is cool but global illumination sucks and is way too washed out. The environments have very little 'atmosphere' because of this, with just spot-light lighting effects from local and player based light sources.
It plays great though. I was expecting it to play substantially slower or choppier, but it plays really awesome even when cranked up fully and 1024x768 on my rig.
I'm into more RPG like shooters ... like Diablo. At least a pretense of a plotline ... though I don't like them as weak as what was in Diablo II. So how much of a plot is there in Doom III?
Also, anyone know when Diablo III will be rolling out? Will it roll out?
I hope Doom 3 doesnt have a plot...I like mindless blasting of beasties ;D

Doom 3 is the best shooter game ever.
I downloaded it from winmx last week and have been playing it ever since.
I have also down loaded the cheats also the graphics are suberb.
:3dglasses:
I ran into this cutey in the game today.. topless and she indeed gives full contact lap, kidney and spleen dances.
Maybe someone should host a game sometime soon. Have a little StripperWeb frag fest in multiplayer. yipeee!
I'm waiting for GTA: San Andreas.
I've thought about playing it but to be honest, I kind of lost interest in the first person shooters back when this game was supposed to be out SEVEN FRIGGIN YEARS AGO! If a demo of it existed, I'd probaly try it and then make up my mind.
You're thinking of Duke Nukem Forever; Doom 3 was only started 3.5 years ago.Quote:

Bah...my system at home would be more than able to handle it...i just don't feel like getting it right now.
I just play Quake III on my PS2 to satisfy my urges.
But hey...why listen to me?
This is coming from the girl who owns every single expansion pack to The Sims that has been put out by EA games...hehe.
:oYeah I know, pretty lame.
Heh.. I'm right there with ya, Tiff!
I have every single one of the Sims. I'm way addicted..
From my memory, ID Software was supposed to release this a lot longer ago than 3 1/2 years ago. They had all sorts of issues with their programmers leaving, then problem after problem after problem arose, then technology supassed their development so they had to go back to square 1. Then the game was supposed to be out on the shelves for Christmas '03 and it was delayed again and so here it is. Duke Nukem had even more silly issues surrounding it didn't it?Quote:
