how long did it take you?
i've been dancing for about two months now and i realize i'm still very new at this. my question is how long did it take for you to really learn how to hustle and reach your highest money making potential? i know there are a wide range of answers but i'd like to hear what you all have to say. i'm doing alright but i know i could do so much better.
Re:how long did it take you?
About a year and I was doing good and 2 years I was doing outstanding then it keep getting better and better. :) I'm just a hard core baller. If I get a customer in a room I'm taking all his money. I'm making him tip me out. Though he's not laying a hand on me at the same time.
I make all my money in Private rooms. Lap dances I hate because everyone in the club can see you naked for free. Private rooms it's only me and some guy who is paying a lot of money just to hang out with me. There are camera's of course for my protection and their eyes to see the hookers. I could never imagine going on stage again. That's a no-no in my book. :) :)
Re:how long did it take you?
Seven years and I'm still learning and improving all the time. Probably six months to a year before I was making really good money consistantly, and then another year before I was making REALLY good money....

Re:how long did it take you?
I was doing awesomely in May [worked 4 months], then things kind went down, we'll see how switching clubs works. It's just gotta keep getting better.
Re:how long did it take you?
Mastering the dancer hustle is like trying to master "bridge".It doesn't matter how long you've been doing it because there is always something new to learn, especially in this fast evolving industry.

You are right...time has little to do with it in most cases. Some people master the art of hustling in a club in six weeks, and some never figure it out in six years. I see it all the time. There are a lot of factors that come into play, but time is not always a level of experience. Go into any club and you'll see some dancers (clean ones) who are making top incomes who have been dancing for a year or two and then you'll have others who have been dancing for years and years and still are working all night just to scratch up a few bucks in the club.
Re:how long did it take you?
i know what my strengths and weaknesses are. i know i can get to the point where i sell a dance in less time. i probably spend a little too long (three songs) with some customers. others i sell faster but i need to be more consistent. and i also have to learn how to read a customer who won't buy any dances BEFORE i start to chit chat. and yes, i know it isn't fool-proof and you can't always tell who will buy or won't. i guess i should just sharpen my skills, let time pass, and keep positive! thanks
Re:how long did it take you?
this reminds me of a quote on a board game box. (The game is mastermind BTW)
"A minute to learn... a lifetime to master"

Re:how long did it take you?
I don't think you ever really "master" the art of hustling... IMHO the best thing you can do is set a goal, know what you have to do to reach it, and have a good attitude. Even when I have a "bad" day moneywise I try to remind myself it is more money than I would make at most other jobs in a week!!!
Re:how long did it take you?
Oh, you can master it alright. Mastering a hustle is tricky because you have to bend some of your rules so that the customers will bend some of theirs. For some, mastering a hustle means simply finding a groove that you are comfortable with money and action wise and using those techniques. The monetary rewads for this are quite comfortable.
But there are real ruthless hustlers who can make 700+ dollars a day. They learn what has to be said and done to make big bucks and do it, and with discretion. It's very hard to learn their secrets because they rarely give them away. I learned a lot of techniques from books like Nice Girls Don't Get The Corner Office. You have to find a pitch, or many for that matter.
Re:how long did it take you?
My situation's a little different.
I worked in DC stage-dancing only clubs for the first 3.5 years I danced, so hustling didn't really apply there.
When I started working in New Orleans and Vegas a year and a half ago, and now my home club in Baltimore, I took to hustling like a fish to water.
I agree that there's still more to learn; I never assume I know all there is to know about this business.
Although I'd be more inclined to say the business is DE-volving, what with higher contact expected at more clubs and more dancers, clubs and fewer spending customers.

9 months to a year. it took me that long to be comfortable enough to hustle correctly.
Re:how long did it take you?
Probably 4 years into dancing, did I really start seeing the potential for big money. I didn't really think that it was there for me. I thought that the other girls were prettier or had better bodies or were giving extreme extras, and that is why I didn't make as much as them.
What it really was, was me not recognizing my own self worth. Now a $500 night is the norm for me (and I'm in the Northwest). Massive self confidence trumps any good line any day. These days I rarely ask for dances, the guys will ask me.
When I am in a hustling mood, I use lines like "I'm the best you'll never have" and "you better get a dance with me now because I'm going to be too busy tomorrow."
I had a customer who used the I'll be back tomorrow line on me. I really was too busy, and he left the bar without ever getting a dance from me because I was tied up in VIP all night. Ha! That felt good!!
Re:how long did it take you?
It is nearly going on 3 years for me... and only the last 6 months have I felt that I am starting to "shape up" my hustle to the point that I can guarantee myself a certain amount of $$ no matter the club...
That's why I'm attending the Dancer Wealth training. There is nothing like it here in Australia ... and I personally feel that will help me "get on top of the game". The true test will come when I get back home from the course... due to the fact that I will be near broke ! LOL
Nah.. I have the knowledge.. hopefully the DW training will give me the right knowledge (since its industry specific).. just have to use it.
That's all there is to it. Know your worth. Focus on succeeding (even if it turns out to be a $100 night.. try to be one of the top earning girls that night..).
Even in Mt Isa where the money is crap.. I "focused on succeeding" instead of focus-ing on NOT succeeding.. and even tho I only made $150.. I was the top earner that night. I finally got "it" ;D
Re:how long did it take you?
it has taken me 3 years. I used to always take it personal when a guy said no to a dance. now i realize hes missing out. its funny cas when a guy does say no, ill ask the guy next to him. so usually after the guys sees me dance he changes his mind. also i used to just talk about my self. now i just ask him questions about himself so he doesnt feel like i am only interested in his money. usually well talk for about a song and they usually keep me there 2-10 songs more!
Re:how long did it take you?
thanks for all the input girls!
Re:how long did it take you?
Every day is different. I think I still learn something new every day.
Re:how long did it take you?
LUNA MAIDEN,
You said you were doing really good up through May and now things are starting to slow down and you mentioned switching clubs. Something that few people will tell you is that just like anything else, strip clubs have an "off season" time of the year. It is a few months of the year that are always the slowest for everybody. The club, though it may still be busy, is not making as much money and even the girls that are hustlers are not averaging what they ususally are. The "off season" is usually during the summer. Guys are going on vacations with their families, going out to the lake, enjoying the extra hours of daylight. A lot of divorced men get their kids for a month during the summer and dont want to leave their kids to go party. I am a stripper in Dallas/Ft Worth area. I average around 600-700/night. During the summer I shoot for 500. That may be more than what most girls at my club make, but I work really really hard. So just hang in there at your club. Sometimes going to another club will just make your money drop b/c you lose customers. Things will come around as soon as September gets here. And good luck.
And to answer whoever started this forum. I started dancing at a small club (around 8-12 girls on a fri night). It took me about 6 months to learn to hustle there and within a year I was making as much money as you possibly could in that club.
After 1.5 years, I switched to a larger club (40-50 girls) and I had a lot more competition. Instead of being one of the few good looking girls, I was surrounded by beautiful girls. It took me another year at this club to really figure out how to hustle there. Now I have been there for nearly 2 years, and I am one of the top money earners. Every club is different and you have to adapt your hustling style to it to maximize your income.
Re:how long did it take you?
Carina, the thing is, according to EVERYONE in my club, girls that had worked there awhile, managers, etc. summer was supposed to be the booming season - these are direct quotes:
"In the summer we have girls walking out of here with 12, 13 hundred..."
"this night was like, oh, a FRIDAY night during the summer, just wait until you see a saturday night! You can't hardly move we're so busy."
"[this was a memo from management] Now we're getting into the busy summer season and I encourage you to book more nights."
So, unfortunately, if summer was our busy season I don't want to stay at this club. And I don't really have regulars, I know three guys that come in occasionally [maybe once or twice a month] and spend money on me, meaning I can count on them to buy a dance or two. Which isn't that much better than the other random customers, and worse than the bigger club I'm at where I can sell a room and get a lot more.
Re: how long did it take you?
"Every club is different and you have to adapt your hustling style to it to maximize your income."
This is DEFINITELY true. The first club I danced at I was top hustler within weeks. Two years and at least three clubs later I'm just now realizing that a great approach at one club may be a rather shitty approach at another. One has to wonder, though, if some clubs don't better fit one's natural hustle. I think it's that hope that's got me club-hopping so bad.

Yeah..once you know your self worth the money gets better and better. If you come into work confident and oozing sex appeal, the guys will notice that and want it. It's fantasy..I'm conservative outside of work, but once I enter my club I'm someone else.
Re: how long did it take you?
At my first club I started banking after about 6 or 7 months. I would get in the champagne room at least 2 out of the 3 nights I worked. Now at my new club I can hardly make what I used to make. The clientele is a little different and the club doesn't get packed like the lastone. i have to find my angle again.
