I need some assistance with this one
Ok so here is the thing,
My friend came to me and asked if I wanted to do makeup for an independent film/documentary done for my friend Paul's film company he's just starting up. We would all be doing the work for the cause, not for money or anything as it's very low budget. Anyways, here's the thing...im not necissarily used to low budget when it comes to stage/theatrical/camera makeup. I'm going to definitely need foundation/powders etc for use under professional lighting. Does anyone with experience in this field know anything about what I could use for <cheap!!!>. I can't order anything online because this is all happening this coming weekend. I will probably be using regular makeup, but i'm trying to figure out what I should brand/type etc. The only information i've been given is, most of the film is going to be indoors, I don't need to do any special effects (with the makeup)...and, whatever I use it can't cost much money. ...and we are talking drug store cheap here. Thanks ladies, any input would be appreciated.
Re:I need some assistance with this one
Ben Nye stuff is relatively cheap. That's what I always used on stage, but I did theater work, not movie stuff.
Good luck on your project though, Tiff! I'm sure it will turn out great.
Re:I need some assistance with this one
I say if you need super cheap and something that you can just go to the drugstore and pick up then covergirl.
Re:I need some assistance with this one
I thought of Ben Nye...I'm just going to have to figure out if there is a place relatively nearby that sells it.
Re:I need some assistance with this one
Are you shooting in film, standard definition video or high def? High definition shows Everything, so keep that in mind. Make sure you have some good translucent powders to keep the shine down. My friend is a professional make-up artist and uses a lot of mac, revlon and ben nye. Make sure you don't buy anything with mica in it! There is nothing more irritating to a director of photography( my job ) than trying to light somebody with "sparklies" all over their face. Don't over-do the men. I had a makeup artist make a male actor look like Bambi once, and I made her remove his makeup and start over. Never let an amature actress do her own makeup, but ask her to bring some of her basics to the set.
Good Luck!
Re:I need some assistance with this one
I just had my makeup done on the set of a TV show...they used a crapload of concealer as foundation, then a crapload of powder. Very sparse with the blush, as it jumps out on screen. False eyelashes (they work miracles!) and liquid liner should do the trick. And lipstuff, that's straighforward. Honestly, I don't think the brands matter that much except for the concealer and powder, and even those can be Revlon or whatever. If you'll have set lighting, apply it heavy, it you'll be working in natural light...try to get the actors to tan first. That hides everything :D
