Question for those using/used pro active
Ok, so its about 5 days since I started using it, I used it for the first 3 nights... my skin was feeling pretty dry and uncomfortable by then so I haven't used it for the last 2 days and its still uncomfortable. I used it once before without success and am beginning to wonder why I bothered again.
How was your skin before you started, when you started, and now..... shall I keep going try for something else.

Re:Question for those using/used pro active
I love pro-active and I found it to be gentle. Are you using it sparingly? You don't need to over scrub. You also shouldn't be using it along with any other topical acne treatments. They do make another lotion without the benzoyle peroxide in it that you can try. I have battled acne for years and the proactive line is the only products that works for me. It takes skin about three weeks to get used to a new product. Quitting after three days is really stupid because you are just stressing your skin out even further...not to mention a big waste of money.
I would say stick with it for at least 10 days. Don't pick at your skin and don't overdue the products.
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
My best friend uses it and she swears by it. She has the most amazing skin! She said she noticed a dramatic difference since she started using it. ;)
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
DONT GET CAUGHT UP trying it if it doesn't work for you. It does work for my cousin, my aunt etc, but it simply never worked for me..
If you are that upset with your acne, seek a dermentologist. They will try everything until something works for you!
Why couldnt you stand the side effects of accutane? (i belive that is what you said)
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
thanks for that tampa... my skin is sensitve/dry most of the time so I think its just to much. I don't have much actually spots right now just redness from scars...
Accutane gave me major headaches... I would wake up in the morning and hardly be able to open my eyes or walk it was that painful.
It worked wonders for my brother but I couldn't handle it... I don't like to do such drastic things to my body.
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
are headaches a side effect of accutane? Any chance it was due to something else? I am just curious because accutane has worked wonders fo a lot of people!
did you talk to your doc about the headaches, did he suggest something else?
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
if your skin is dry and sensitive, pro active will eat it up, thats what happened to one of my x's. Accutane makes your skin dry to, but not sensitive and red.
i would stay away from topical med's if i was you. But maybe some kind of pill form will work for you?
what other med's have you tried for acne?
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
yeah accutane dehydrates you alot.... it happened for 3 days straight 2 days after I started taking it. Plus I couldn't handle working in the bar cos it made them worse. The doc told me to take a few days off the pills and have some advil... thats about it. Accutane has alot of side effects, you need to get your blood tested often to make sure you liver is functioning properly... accutane is a HUGE over dose of vitamin A and very toxic to the body. I wasn't in my home country so it was getting very expensive also.
Are you on it? Taking it? What are you using now?
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
I am trying to take the nutritional approach and am having a bit of sucess with zinc, vits A, C, E, Bgroup.... these things take alot longer then medications though.
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
Pro-Active really works! You have to be patient though. It actually makes your skin worse for about 3 weeks and then its all downhill. Your skin will not only be free from breakouts but the best thing for me is the texture. It is so smooth and nice. SOME THINGS TO KNOW: DOnt TOUCH!!! It will scar worse, DONT OVER-USE any of the three steps! DOnt go in the SUn w/o protection, you'll dry out and break out. BUt I think its worth it to have nice skin! Oh yeah the best part; no more FOundation, just light oilfree powders and youll great.
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
motherdaisy and Giselle... did or do you have oily skin?
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
I have been using pro-active for about a year. I'd say it took a good 2-3 months before it started working. For the first few weeks my skin actually got worse. But now it works great. I still get a pimple from time to time but my skin is waaaaay better than before and the redness is gone. It also made my skin super soft. It was drying out my skin as well until I started using their lotion along with the other 3 steps. I have combo skin, dry in some parts and oily in others. I'd say give it a little longer unless your skin is actually peeling or flaking. It may just take some more time to work.

Re:Question for those using/used pro active
Thanks for the reply nurse betty... yeah I have 4 new breakouts and my skin is beginning to peel round my chin... and that was only after 3 nights of using it (I didn't touch ot during the day).
Like I said I tried it last year for about 3-4 weeks with no luck, kinda got suckered into the commerical again. The only reason I tried it again was that I knew I should get my money back if I had the same results as last time. The add just sounds so good!
Glad you guys are all having great success with it

Re:Question for those using/used pro active
I used it for about 6 months and it didn't do that much for me.
My acne isn't severe, but I still want to see a dermatologist to get a course of Accutane to just get rid of it once and for all. Especially because I have majorly stubborn blackheads on my nose that drive me nuts.
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
ProActiv didn't work for me, nor my brother. We're both extremely fair and sensitive skinned and get moderate breakouts in the T-zone - ProActiv dried us out 'til our skin cracked.
On the other hand, ProActiv cleared up my roommate's skin beautifully, within 2 weeks she had a flawless complexion. So I think it's not a magic bullet for everyone, but definitely works for some. The only way to know is to try it.
Re:Question for those using/used pro active
I am a licensed esthetician and I would suggest going to see one. Getting regular facials and getting the right products prescribed for you skin type is what you need. I don't know that much about Proactiv but I do know it is not for everyone, it sounds like it is too harsh for you skn type. It could be stripping your skin mantle and that is causing the irritation and in turn could cause more breakouts. I use Murad products and they have a great acne line. If you have any more questions about your skin please ask........
