SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
Wal-Mart and any grocery store I suppose, but this happened to me at Wal-Mart:
They will punch in a miscellaneous item and add money to it. Then they will change it in the register and stick the money in their pockets. I caught this bitch doing that with strawberries. And I know they got me before, I can remember leaving and thinking, "I know that item didn't cost that much." The best thing to do is use self-checkout. As for me, I hate Wal-Mart, and I choose to go to Target now instead, although they will do that there too if they think they can get away with it.
Any Gas Station or Convenience Store:
They have a button they can push that will add a dollar to the total during pumping but not add the gas. I remember thinking, "Why do I not have any more gas than that?" So watch the dollars as they add up, and make sure the amount is correct for the total amount of gas you put in. Remember how much gas you put in, because I've had them charge me a dollar more once inside, and then I didn't feel like going back in to get it. Be very aware of your transactions at these places.
Buy your gas at 7 11.

Not trying to be an apologist, but if Walmart paid their people a living wage...

I see your point, but someone has to employ the low-class criminals.

No one forces anyone to work there.
Re:SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
My mom had that happen in a 7-11. My mom brought up a newspaper and the guy said "that will be $3" and my mom's says "what newspaper's cost $1.50 then the guys laughs and says "just checking". I think gas station clerks are the worst about doing that. I check my recipts when I grocery shop or shop at Walmart when I'm in the store. Even if there weren't trying to cheat you some item might not have rung up as the sale price.

Re:SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
"How do I contact your supervisor" works.
Re:SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
I was always taught to count my change. I do not. In fact, I'm pretty much unconscious when buying anything. I have no doubt I have been scammed out of hundreds of dollars throughout my lifetime. Every once in a while I'll think "wait...that's not right.....". If I catch it periodically...then it stands to reason I miss it periodically.
Lack of integrity is universal.
Re:SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
I've thought I've been scammed at convenient stores many times. I will make the clerk go over everything with me. I've always found out that I was not scammed in that way. Rather, the prices themselves were actually THAT high. Highway robbery anyone?

eh, um... Wal-Mart pays higher than minimum wage and as much as union stores. If they paid any more, they wouldn't be able to have tose low prices, eh?
besides, if you make it to age 35 and your job involves you wearing a nametag-you have made a serious vocational error somewhere along the line. This is what you get for not having an education.

Um, sorry but I feel this is a judgmental remark. ??? Very High unemployment due to the war, outsourcing jobs overseas & other factors. An education is/was never a job gurantee, in my opinion. A former co-worker's boss, owned a car alarm co. When he opened his door to get a delivered pizza, guess who? His former boss was the delivery person. Know of a few situations like this.
As far as this thread, I have seen on the news about scanners being wrong, (ringing up the higher price). Have read articles about this too. There was a website, & phone to contact if this happened, but sorry I don't know it. I would tend to think it's more of co.'s fault, but sure, the clerk could be in on it too.

I'm 35 married with 2 kids...I work at home depot and wear a name tag....I also just moved cross country and needed a job to provide for my family......
I work with an electrical engineer who lost his job due to his company deciding to go overseas, he has kids and a mortgage, plus bills to pay
Just because someone wears a nametag at work doesn't neccessarily mean they lack education
My mom for instance had a great job at a car dealership, due to downsizing she lost that job and was hired at Walmart... again she had rent and bills to pay....
Some of us will do whatever it takes to provide for our families....

I've worked at several gas stations in my youth, and I have NEVER heard of this!!! A button to charge a dollar more? Shit we used to keep an empty oil can out on full service( if the boss wasn't there) and charge 2 bucks to put in oil that wasn't needed, but never pressed a button to add a buck to your total......
Re:SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
YAY, Blade! Great Points!
Re:SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
I'm going to agree....there is absolutely nothing shameful about being a hard worker that provides for one's family...holding your own...and the economy ....wait, GW just said the economy's getting better! What's WRONG with you people! Don't you understand the strategery here??
Re:SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
Employee scams are simple thievery.. nothing more.
I don't see any parallel to just Walmart or Gas Station attendants. A slimeball at a place of business is a slimeball period. They are everywhere.
Some people just have the mindset that it's 'okay' to be a thief and steal money from the unsuspecting. It's a personality type and they can be working at high-end, top jobs.. all the way down to minimum wage positions.
While personal crisis and financial situation can definately throw-over the borderline types, the truly honorable or noble would never steal regardless of situation. So I dont look at low salary jobs or economic conditions to be any form of justification to be seedy or untrustworthy. I know PLENTY of people that have chosen homelessness over doing anything against their personal values.
Lastly, I take offense to the notion that someone working low payscale jobs would somehow be an indicator of their education level. There are plenty of 4-8 year degree'd folks working McDonalds or other low-end jobs.. as sometimes life just throws shit at you and they are able to bury their pride in the name of survival. I have more respect for those people than the ones that remain unemployed and collect government benefits in regions without a lot of jobs.

"If you're 35 and you wear a nametag, you have made a serious vocational error somewhere..."
Way to steal comedy from Dennis Miller.
Re:SCAMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
I have zero issue with anyone doing an honest job for a paycheck. In fact I expect to have a nametag job part time in about 16 years with fewer pressures and a lot of flexibility after retiring from full-time work. I think working part time in retirement is a good thing to do to keep busy and have a reason to get up in the morning much of the time. It also gives one a reason to be social.
Nothing wrong with having a name tag or having a retail job. It keeps body and soul together, and I like having people who have some sense of responsibility rather than some 16 yearold who wants to buy a car. 20-24 hours a week and I can stay in strip club money.

Been there, done that and without shame.
