I've had my mustache and my eyebrows threaded and it's the same idea as tweezing... just yanking one hair out at a time by the friction and pulling motion of the thread...
Really? lets get into more detail. Did it hurt? What do you mean "friction and motion of the thread"... Is there a thread? Sorry if I am totally clueless here. Does it last longer than other methods?
^Muyaha, was the procedure painful ?
If so, was it as bad as waxing or worse ?
I have a friend in Houston that get's this done (rather, a friend of a friend). She said it doesn't hurt.
The way she explained it was this: They take some thread and twist it....and then place it on the are to be "plucked" and when they pull the twist comes undone and grabs the hair. I think it's a middle eastern thing.
Here, I found this:
It does hurt, about the same as plucking. You're still pulling the hair out by the root.
The aestethician uses a thread to pull the hair out.
Nina, do you think it hurts like plucking hurts (one at a slow painful freakin' time) or hurts like waxing (all at once like a band-aide)?
I get mine threaded at a place here in Austin called Tara's salon. She's awsome, and I will never go back to any other method.
It doesnt hurt anymore than plucking, and even just five minuts after, the reddness and swelling is gone. with waxing it takes at least a day.
I also feel threading gets an overall better shape, because there is so much more controll than waxing, and is much faster and lasts much longer than plucking.
Thanks for the link Miss Taylor !
I am seriously thinking about getting this procedure done/Does anyone know a good place to get my eyebrows "threaded" in the S.F ?
Or the surrounding areas ?
I've been to Tara's salon! She does threading for my latina girlfriends with very course hair! Their brows look great and it would be a pain for them to tweeze with all of that hair. She also does mehndi aka henna tatoos, but those never last on me!!Quote:

There's a place in Baltimore called Usha Salon that threads brows.
I've seen several chicks that have gone there and looked great but I'm also Latina and even though my brows aren't coarse, they grow in different directions and I've had some bad waxing experiences.
I might try Usha soon since I've been going to my quick but thorough Russian wax lady since high school, but she's all the way in Jersey!
Where in Austin is Tara's? I'll have to check it out!
I used to get mine threaded myself. It is an asian thing. You can notice that a lot of indian girls have it done (well, at least in the UK). It does use a thread and it's far faster than plucking IMHO.
I like threading...haven't had it done in a while. I like it better than waxing because there's so much more control. Also, I feel that the wax makes my eyebrow area MORE puffy and red by pulling at the skin. With threading, it doesn't touch the skin, so the redness is gone within 5-10 minutes of finishing the procedure. The other nice thing about threading is that there is no sticky residue to go home and finish washing off. I also think that theading gets MORE of the stray hairs than waxing does...
Nina, I'm am latina (well, half) too and my eyebrows grow in different directions as well...and I always had great results with threading...you should definitely try it!! :D
If you've had waxing done, then threading is a no-sweat!
Hey Farrah, there is a place on union street right above Jamba Juice that threads!! It's close to Union and Webster but I can't remember the exact cross street.
Tara's is located at 2204 W. Anderson ln., I have an appointment today actually.
Thank youQuote:

Does anyone know where I can get threaded in Las Vegas?
I had it done in Chicago a while back, and loved it, then I moved.
Help?
There was a woman on Oprah yesterday and she said threading was painless....she had great eyebrows!!
My friend gets this done, and I went with her once and watched - it was amazing! I couldn't get over how quickly the girl did it, weaving the thread through the hairs like lightning-speed, it was crazy!
I'm a plucker myself, do it at least once a week to stay on top of the strays, so I don't have to sit down and pull hairs for a long time, and get all red, but if I wasn't so thrifty I would certainly try threading.
Ha, now I want to get this done! I live in Chicago area. Awhile back, I usta get bikini waxed, & I let her do my brows, now my left brow is partially "bald". So maybe it would be a bad idea. Have heard about puttin' Rogaine on a toothbrush, using on brow, but ? I have been really wanting to get my brows professionally shaped, then keeping up myself.
I go to a lady in the Oakbrook area...if you are not too far from there (like going to the mall there) you could easily stop by. Let me know.
I also get this done. I have very sensitive skin and so waxing is just out of the question. This procedure is almost painless and very effective for me. I don't do it as often now that I am retired but I would recommend it for those who are looking for a new way to keep those brows in check without the usual irritation.
tiger, where do you go to get this done. I dont think they do it at lucy's fancy.. do they?
Waxing also removes a layer of skin that causes redness and irritation. Threading is a lot faster than plucking. I pay $15 to get my eyebrows done.
