Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
VIP’s – why hustle all night when you could be paid to drink Champagne?
Most girls want VIP customers but don’t realise that the usual hustle won’t impress. A little more effort could mean big bucks - so I hope my tactics help:
>:( The Gangsta type. Scratch their egos, assert your own strength but act submissive to their ‘greatness’. Laugh at their jokes, make them prove their greatness with money – “Yea its been a good week, this guy came in here last night spent $4000 on girls etc.” how much for the rest of the night - $1000 when he try’s to put the price down “come that’s nothing to a guy like you!” Beware that these guys know money is power and will like to see what they can get for it. Tread carefully its easy to piss them off especially if their coked up.
/:O Old money. Rich people like high culture they want you to be the intelligent, classy princess that needs to be saved from such a lower existence as stripping. Talk sex then art then sex then philosophy then books then sex…..keep the champagne flowing if their drunken $2000 is nothing for the company of a girl like you. When they talk about boat trips and island retreats invite yourself along (you don’t have to actually go)! Be discrete about money and always act money is no obstacle.
8) Younger guys and new money. Can be cockey and love to impress their friends always pay the guy with the most money more attention they want to be the big man in front of their friends and usually will pay for their dances/drinks too. Talk money they like to flash it around.
::) Businessmen. Figure out who’s paying for it all first. Befriend him win him over first, discuss money and dances discretely then pick up his clients he’ll pay for them but only if they like you. This saves the embarrassment of the client having to ask the boss for a dance. Work the whole table individually charge a minimum per guy and work your way around them (as long as theirs not other girls lurking). Tell the last guy to rave about how good you were to his workmates. Make everyone laugh and have a good time together, don’t forget the only reason the boss is there is to get them to sign contracts and or team ‘bonding’.
:-\ Lonley (Traveling) Businessmen. Their on business, they just want company…which is fine as long as they pay for it. Listen to them, make them feel special, and then make them fall in love with you for the night…”just put it on the company credit card”.
General Tips
Don’t pressure them for a dance straight away or over and over again. They like playing games and patience is usually rewarded. As a rule its talk first dance later.
Act like a princess but not a snob.
Always ask for more than you think they will give you say it confidently like it’s not a lot of money then negotiate. You may get lucky. Act like your worth it.
Tell them it’s your birthday next week….hint that they should come and celebrate with you….they may bring presents or at least pay you well.
Get them to come back. 2 hours of smart talking could get you a regular that pays $1000 a week. Moreover, get them to bring friends (more rich men are good for everyone)
Get their card and call them on a slow night, ask them to come in.
Tip the bouncers/waitresses - they know who just walked in/ has a gold credit card etc.
If they talk about lunch out of the club…at a nice restraint perhaps…go along with it you don’t actually have to go. They probably fly out tomorrow anyway.
Look at how much money is in his wallet…not obviously! What ever is there could be yours…milk him dry then go credit!
Don’t act like a slut they don’t respect it, play hard to get and tease them. Don’t do ANY extras if they wanted sex they could get it (THEIR LOADED). If your that way inclined charge extensively.
They pay a lot so above all give them what they paid for. 100% attention, they want to feel special, powerful, rich – they want a high class girl so act like one. Whatever you do if they paid you a lot of money, don’t leave them to go hustle. Give them their moneys worth and if its not enough let them know you need more or you have to go work. They know that your time is money…they probably charge even more for their time than you!
Any one else work at a 'High Class' Club and could to add to this: im keen for some new tips!

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
Ruby,
Great advice. This is expecially good advice if you work at a club that caters to this type of crowd. This is my Hustling strategy.
Pretty much go around and ask for a dance. I don't go " Wanna dance?" I smile, introduce myself, ask how there night is going and then say " You look like you are ready for a dance..." Or a funny/cute line or something that comes off the top of my head. Takes all of 30 seconds.
Always ask them if they want another. If they don't thank them and move on. If they want more, keep asking and dancing. They usually will ask you if you would like a drink say YES!! This usually means they like you and want you to stay ( and give you money). You can do one of two things: Keep talking to them and doing multiple dances periodicaly or try to get him to buy your hour. Tell him you love hanging out with him and tell him you make like 200 an hour ( or maybe more or less) and if he can match that you can go offstage( tip the DJ extra), do all the individual dances he wants without paying individualy for them ( little extra incentive for them to buy your hour sounds like a DEAL) and you to can have fun and get DRUNK!( lol don't really get bombed just tipsy)
If a guy asks about champange or the VIP room this is an easy sell. You just say that you have to buy champange to get to the VIP room and the dancer of his choice(YOU) he can have all to himself for 200 an hour( or more or less) act like whatever figure you choose is standard. Guys like this usually expect that there is a standard amount to pay the dancer if he goes to VIP. This is a sure thing unless he is inquiring about extras which if he makes me uncomfortable I won't even really pursue.
This is what works for me. It may not work for everyone but always play every situation by ear and it will come over time. Ruby gave really good advice. Happy Hustling!!!!;D

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
I'm currently kinda "with" one of these types of customers: the "younger guys and new money". He loves going to strip clubs and having the dancers gather at his table.. so he will buy heaps of drinks for everyone. He is the type that isn't out to get you drunk ... he's there to have a good time and wants you to have a good time as well. Try to order something that you know you will drink very slowly if you don't want to get drunk (or don't like to drink at work yet want his money).
He takes a little bit of a time investment.. he knows the deal.. so he is totally kewl with you leaving then wandering back every so often. Strike up conversation with him whilst you have your drink...
He eventually took four dancers for a $400 dance ($100 per dancer) right at the end of the night (only due to the money not being in his account until 4am unfortunately as he was keen to go sooner).

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
I agree with you guys, about the quick hustle (chat, dance as long as you can get out of them and onto a new customer) it work's on the Saterday night crowd where stage show is also important. However at my club this approach does not work on the 60-70% weekday business crowd that has less people and more monay. There are always a few big spending regulars at my club that only a handfull of girls can get access to the always sit in VIP and regularly spend $2000-4000 on girls. The adverage girl will get 500-800 a night at my club but my friend who is popular with the VIP's will always take home 1000, she makes the most in the club and took home over $6000 last week for 5 nights work! To be honnest I dont know how she does it but she has a background in sales and I think it could be this, I have seen her get over 2000 from one customer. Anyway I really want more VIP's and I see it as the easy way to make money as usually ill make the same for sitting and chatting with the occasional dance as I would at the end of a Saterday, exhausted with KILLER sore feet!!! Im trying my best to pick up some ritch regulars at the moment so ill let you know how I go, the ritch regulars are always closley guarded by their fav. girls so I think the best way is to get a new one - I just have to get one to fall for my killer personality, my extensive knowledge of art history,;) or prehaps my ass!

There are a few here I'd like to address if I may. :)

Well, sorta. I don't think acting like a princess is a good move all the time as it can seem phony. Acting confident is though. Remember, there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance though.
Quote:

Don't just act like you're worth it, KNOW you're worth it. Big difference. "Acting as if..." is a good start though. Don't just ask for more than you think they'll give you, rather always assume the upsell. It's much more effective. For example, when your customer is already willing to buy a dance from you, the next statement from you should be, "So, would you like your dance here, or would the VIP room better suit our needs?"
Quote:
Tell them it?s your birthday next week?.hint that they should come and celebrate with you?.they may bring presents or at least pay you well.
BAD move. Really bad in fact. Lying to your customers will bite you on your A$$ way more than you realize. The main reason is because you'll wind up lying to cover your lies. You tell your customer this week that it's your birthday next week, then forget about it. What happens when you see him again in a month and tell him the same lie? Then you look foolish and you may lose a repeat customer for no reason.
Quote:

Agreed. I posted on this in another post in this group yesterday though so check that out. Always telling them "...And next time, bring your friends down here and I'll be happy to take care of them too!"
Quote:
Get their card and call them on a slow night, ask them to come in.
WHOH!!!! BAD advice. Sorry, but this is a really bad move Ruby. This is how marriages are broken up. I can just imagine a dancer calling some guy on his cell phone and his wife picks up. Then it's "So why is this stripper calling you when you aren't in the club". Let your customers be happy coming to you, but don't hustle them when they aren't there...it's just inappropriate and unprofessional.

Great point. Something many women in this industry forget about.

I'm actually writing a book about what I teach now. I guess I might as well throw this out into the world here first I guess. :) It's going to be a book on sales and marketing from the foundation of how I've been teaching dancers for the last 1 1/2 years to make more money. I just interviewed three literary agents this week about getting it published for me.
I've been doing a lot of research over the last few months about this, and so far in interviewing over 100 dancers earning consistently over $1,000 a night or more, over 80% of them have had some sort of formal sales training. It just reinforces what I've been saying for so long about this business. It's simply about the ability to close a sale.

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
Well i guess i was pretty much "not" the kind of dancer that Ruby writes about. First i can't act like a princess, i came across more confident, maybe a bitch at times, but made guys curious, because i delivered what i promised!
-
Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
Shit having a comp. problem......
Also i gave my cell to regulars, HEY if i can't make a club scene or private, we set another date! I never called them...ever. Cell only btw.
I would mix up my style ALOT. One night wear something out of the norm for me, to attract different people, it works. Same old crap gets old, quick. So a bitch on the pole one night who wants to eat a man alive worked well with small talk, and sitting on his lap (if he wanted) and this pole/stage dancing was a calling card! I can and did deliver.
Next night work the floor...alone, laughing, smiling, and asking what a guy wanted to see me take off for him!
Guess in the club i just came across as if it works i'll keep doing it, if not i will change a routine. Because certain "personalities" work well for an older crowd, NOT for the 20's.
Feel out the crowd before you hit it! AND forget the other dancers, it's your own thing...

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
2 hours of smart talking? What if you don't get paid for that time? Then that's two hours of wasted time! Do you ask for the money up front? Or just sit and hope they tip you?
-
Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
Yes, Dancer wealth when this book comes out I will be the first one in line to buy it!!! Do you know when it might come out or are you not aloud to say?
I like the advice it is very helpful. I've never gotten to work at a club with a VIP room...sounds like -ching ching- in my pocket if I do. Plus, some of the previous posted tips are good for everyday guys. Makes me want to go back dancing even more. Staying positve always helps too. Thanks Ruby.

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
I'm fishing for a publisher right now which is why I have several literary agents working for me right now. There are three basic ways to get a book published. The first is to go through a major publishing company such as Simon & Schuster or Random House. The only way you can do this is through an Agent who basically represents you to the publishers. While you hire an agent, the agent also has to hire you too so to speak. They have to accept your manuscript or sometimes an outline if it's non-fiction and then go represent you for a percentage of the publishing income. This is the only way to deal with the large publishers.
The second method is to go to a smaller publisher who is more likely to deal with the authors in some cases. Having an agent here is also useful, but not always neccessary.
The third method is to self-publish. Although this is the easiest method, it is also the most difficult to market and distribute. Not to mention all costs are incurred by the author.
So, right now, I've got a few agents that have agreed to work for me and are now hunting for a publishing house. I'm told this is one of the most difficult processes and I've already been lucky in finding a few agents who want to work with me which is really cool. Since they work for a percentage, it is in their best intrest to see me or any other author succeed. So, once they find a publisher who wants to buy the book, they give me an advance of money to write it. The catch is, I have a deadline and have to have a set amount of pages or words written. The advance is to hold me accountable to writing the book. If I'm late in submitting it, I am then legally obligated to stary paying THEM until it's written.
Once the book is complete, then it goes through a series of editors who then modify the book in ways that make it more book-worthy etc. Then the artwork is done, printing happens, and it's distributed to book stores. SO, to answer your question in a very long way, the book could be on the shelves in late 2005 if it's picked up in the next month or two. I'll keep the board posted on the details, but my agents have told me that because the topic covers:
1. The sex industry
2. Sales & Marketing and
3. Topics that are extremely unique
I have a very good chance of being picked up by a publishing house soon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
Oooh...well, good luck! And definitely let us know when it is done...I know a lot of dancers who would pick that book up in a heartbeat!!
Also, I was going to take your class...but then went LOA at work. Will be going back there in the next few weeks, so I will be for sure taking a class now...I can't wait!! :D

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
Big money regulars are a dying breed. Average money regulars always result in diminishing returns when they figure out you aren't going to give it up.
Some excellent points made, but not every girl has the goddess looks and persona to pull this off Ruby. More and more men are learning this game and taking advantage of dancer's time because they are dressed a certain way to make her feel that they might be important.
Not all clubs are upscale either. Your advice was great, but I would not get too caught up in it because that type of attitude may give you a $2000 night followed by weeks of $20 nights..........

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
Thank you Dancerwealth. I appreciate the reply although long much helpful. Didn't know how much went into publishing a book. I definitely want to go back dancing now! Oh yea Ruby if you want to make more posts about hustling better go right ahead.

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
With the comment about ringing the coustomers to come in, I have never done it, but I know some of the girls who have good relationships with their customers do. I would agree that you should never call unless their is an understanding between both the dancer and customer.
A girl got 7000 from one customer on Monday, he paid on credit card. I wonder how one gets this much money from one customer. Has anyone got large sums from a customer before - if so how did you get it?
I am aiming to work in Spearmint or Stringfellows UK which are mainly hostessing clubs. Does anyone have any tips about working in these kind of clubs?

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
It's all in how you word things, I never ask if a guy wants "another dance" . After the first dance I ask in a sexy voice if he wants me to keep going and I make each dance better, you have to build it up, leave them thirsting for what comes next. Also, when a guy is hesitant to dish out a large sum I just say come on, you know I'm worth it, in a sxey voice of course. Self confidence is the key, if you know you're worth it they'll see it

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
In reference to getting a guys card and calling him when it is slow to see if he will come in... first of all I doubt any guy would give out his home number that his wife might answer to a dancer. Also most guys cards are business cards so a girl will most likely just be calling his office and leaving a message in the middle of the night ... not calling the guys wife.
-
Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
This isn't always true though. I can think of at least five friends off the top of my head who own small businesses and their business card number goes to their cell phone. Three of them work for billion-dollar companies too, but they are contractors for those companies and take the calls directly. Heck, all of my companies I run out of my home office and I use my cell as my business number as well come to think of it so don't just assume that because it's printed on a business card it routes to some large company with 20 receptionists that send the calls to a corner office with a view of the city. :)

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
Thanks for the great advice! I can't wait to try it out tonight.
Another thing I find helps is emphasizing how much YOU want it i.e. "I would love some private time with you" "We could have so much fun together" etc.
And best of luck with the book... I'll be first in line to pick it up!

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
I can't wait for this book..... I pull off the innocent girl in the club very well (couldn't be farther from the truth!!), I think the most important tool when hustling any type of guy is to SMILE SMILE SMILE.... and lots of eye contact too. Never bitch about girls, club, or management, even if you do hate them. Speak highly of everyone and everything having to do with the club. Always too when guys ask me if I like my job, I tell them that I have no schedule, come and go as I please, get to be drunk at work, and that 75% of the time all I do is talk to people, so yes I love my job. This gets a smile on their face. THey come to clubs to get away from their wives bitching at them, the last thing they want to hear is a stripper bitching too!!

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
I have to give you props Dancerwealth. It sounds like a lot of research and time has gone into this book. I hope everything goes your way and look forward to seeing your book on shelves in a local bookstore in the near future.

Re: Work Smarter - Not Harder. How to get the VIP Customers
tori, when guys ask I say something like "it's one of those few jobs where I get to walk around in my underwear and flirt with people all day, what's not to like?" :)

I'd have to endorse this approach, myself. A bit of time investment can pay off. The caveat being that you need to be able to scope out if the guy(s) are actually the type to reward your attention with a string of dances at the end of the night, or if they're just trying to get your time for free. For that matter, they don't even necessarily have to be a potential regular for this to pay off.
Many casual customers, in my (albeit limited as a customer and from conversational evidence) experience, are just as likely to blow a large wad (of cash only, hopefully :O ) as a regular VIP. The difference being that the VIP can afford to blow that much once a week, while the casuals might only come in once a quarter. Obviously the regular big spender is preferable, but the casuals can be a windfall if you get the right ones as well.
The thing to remember about all casual customers, both big and small spenders, is that they're going to need to relax before they part with their cash. In a perfect world, everyone that walks through the door would be instantly relaxed and ready to spend their money. Unfortunately, the world ain't perfect. They're going to need a bit of time, a few drinks, watch the stage show for a while before they're ready for a dance.
Now clearly you can't give every customer in the joint some personal attention on the off chance they're willing to blow a bundle. So how do you recognise the ones that are worth the effort? If a casual comes in with a reasonable amount of cash, he is planning on spending it all. And while he might not be approaching the girls as soon as he sits down, he (or they) will find ways to indicate that desire. Cultivate a relationship with the bartender/waitresses. If somebody's started off the night with a big tip and/or is routinely tipping a couple of bucks/whatever the shrapnel is every time they get a drink, then they're not keeping a really close eye on the purse strings. (NB: I am talking in Australian terms here, where our smallest note is $5, so shrapnel can be anything up to that). Watch for other indicators as well (e.g. the price of the drinks they're buying. The guy drinking spirits/expensive beer all night is a better prospect than the guy drinking the cheapest beer in the house)
Once you've identified your mark...er...client, it doesn't take that much effort to reel him in and make sure that when he does start spending big, the majority goes to you. Do your usual 5-10 min sit down with him at the start, go ahead and ask him if he'd like a dance, but if he doesn't want one right then, don't assume the 'no' is going to stay that way. Wander off and keep working. But if you're pretty sure that you have identified a potential source of some reasonable cash, keep him/them in the back of your head. When you feel like getting off your feet/having a smoke or drink/taking a break from the hardcore hustle for a minute, sit with the guy. If you were going to do it anyway, may as well work on your fish as well. Don't even necessarily bring up the topic of a dance every time (but that's very situationally specific, use your own judgement). It could very well pay off at the end of the night, once he's relaxed a bit.
This can also be the exception to accepted wisdom. Groups are generally avoided like the plauge, due to the fact that everybody knows that guys on their own are more likely to spend - they're only there for one reason.
However, if you can identify a group of guys that fall into the aforementioned category, then it can really pay off. (I will now digress into talking about myself, because it allows me use a concrete example)
When I go to a club, it's usually with about 4-6 other people. This usually consists of 1-3 of us who are completely comfortable in the environment, and the rest who aren't (due to inexperience). Every one of us will have anywhere from $200 to $800 in his pocket. (Low amounts are usually the newbies, against my advice, but I ply them with alcohol until they think that my suggestions of "I'll take out a few hundred and lend it to you - you can pay me back tomorrow" are a good idea. I'm such a bastard }:D ) So if you average it out, you've got a (low) estimate of $1,500 waiting for somebody to spend it on. A couple/few hundred will get spent on drinks, the rest goes to the girls.
Now sometimes we get pegged as the 'group of guys together - won't spend much' (usually only when certain girls who know us aren't working). So we sit around, talk, drink, watch the show, get a few table dances and then at the end of the night everybody blows what's left on private dances with a bunch of different girls.
However, sometimes one or more girls has the presence of mind to do exactly what I've described above. It'll still take a while, as we're usually there for about 6 hours, but we're fairly low maintenance as long as we know you haven't forgotten us and you come over now and then to give us some attention. Of course the upshot to this is that in the last hour or two that we are there, we pay off the attention with a long string of private dances. I know on at least one occassion we've had a single girl walk away with more than a grand from us, because we decided we liked her. Hence, even the guys that preferred a different 'look', bought dances from her (myself included).
Usually what happens is a mix between the two.
The bottom line is that you might get $100 out of us if we like the way you look (and if you dance the way we like), but if you want to make more than that you have to sell us on your personality as well. Identify the fish and take the time to reel them in - it can be well worth it.
*read back*
...dear God I ramble sometimes
