Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
sandi - GOOOO to a doctor, please. First, none of us could effectively diagnose anorexia. Second, there are things that can lend itself to similar symptoms. One of them is diabetes...which is totally controllable. Fatigue, loss of appitite...bruise easily...constantly thirsty. Those certainly do fit that bill...although they can fit a lot of bills.
Go. Please. Today.
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
Doesn't sound like anorexia. For a start, I doubt a lot of anorexics would even be asking themselves this question.
People sometimes go through phases of weight loss just like people go through phases of weight gain. I don't know how tall you are, so it might not be as dramatic a decline in weight as it sounds.
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
You could be getting bruises from the stage...however, healthy people bruise less easily. If you *bump* a table...and get a bruise...that's a problem.
There are SO many factors that could be at play here. Overactive Thyroid, diabetes...you really need to get to a doctor...NOW. Once you get a clean bill of health...then look into other scenarios...but get the major questions out of the way.
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
Hun you sound a tad malnourished perhaps. If you are NOT trying to lose weight, see yourself as fat etc. You are not anorexic. She made that comment because you are losing weight, maybe a tad thin. People will bring this to our attention one way or another, i think what she said was rude.
A physical is your best bet. Ask for blood work. This checks important vitamins you may be low on. As well as ask for a Thyroid test. PS or maybe your lifestyle has just changed, slow down, relax and eat! :) And always listen to your body, if you don't feel right, get a checkup. Also thin people bruise easier.
Good luck,
Pamela
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
i bruise like crazy and am always tired. I was diagnosed with anorexia when i was 12. Im almost 22 now, and i am healthy.---at a healthy weight too.
i got a bunch of tests done and nothing came back but a clean bill of health.
Come to think about it... when i was anorexic, i wasnt really tired a lot and didnt bruise as often..
take some vit k, arnica.. eat a bit more protein and work out! Take it from there. There is nothing wrong with being underweight,(5-10 pounds) as long as you are eating well and working out.
How tall are you at 115lbs?
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
what is your normal daily diet? How many calories do you consume? If you are eating just fruit all the time.. YES, there could be a problem.

when i was anorexic, i had to ask myself this question.
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
Go to the Doctors...
It could be anything...
and it could be serious...
so GO!
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
PLEASE go to the doctor. It might be a thyroid disorder, mononucleosis or diabetes.....
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
I'm 5'6. I only eat when I'm hungry (not bored) and I eat until I'm satisfied (unless I'm at my mother-in-law's house, and then I stuff myself!). My husband says it's just from dancing and that people who see me everyday notice the extra pound that keeps shedding off ever 1-2 months because weightgain/loss is more noticable on thinner people.
A check-up is a good idea regardless.
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
If you estimate (or count for a day) the number of the number of calories you get a day- you should get at least like 1300 (or 1500)- if you get less than that somthing like 600 that's too little and not healthy. If you're eating enough calories now than maybe it's from dancing.
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
If you are worried I would go to the doctor if I was you.
To me the amount of weight that you lost since last December does not seem to be a whole lot. I have very fair skin and I bruise very easy. As for your sister in-law saying that you are anorexic, some people get jealous that someone is much thinner than them so they tend to make rude comments like....."oh, you are anorexic!" or "you must stick your finger down your throat to stay so thin!"
My ex-boyfriends Aunt use to go telling all her friends that I use to be heavy and the only way I could ever have lost weight is by jamming my finger down my throat after I eat. Needless to say she is over weight and self concious
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
ok.. 5'6, so your ideal weight is 130 give or take 13 percent. I think you are still in your safe range..(less then 15 lbs underweight) but DEF underweight. If you continue to loose weight, you will have a problem no doubt.
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
I agree with tampafldancer......I think most people with eating disorders DO have to ask themselves that question! I'm asking myself that question now. And it's because IIIIII don't see my behavior as a problem, but my boyfriend does. It's a tough thing to admit or realize or think of it as enough of a problem to want to do anything about it! Good for you for asking about it, and definitely do go to the doctor! I do agree with Pamela as well, though.....if you don't think you're fat or need to lose weight or are obsessed at all with being thin, then you probably don't have anorexia, but it could be a number of things(bruising easily and fatigue are major signs of anemia, something I suffer from....blood test will let you know if you are low iron!). Let us know how you are doing, hun!
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
I have recently lost a lot of weight myself.. but this is what I have noticed...
When you dance, you lose weight. Think about it, you are doing a cardio workout many many times throughout the night.. I drink a lot of water when I work, and at my day job, I always eat healthy- fruits, veggies, salad and chicken, steak, tuna only..
In three months, I have gone from 145 pounds to 124.
GO to the dr. I don't think you are anorexic.. many people who suffer from eating disorders rarely ask themselves the question you have, but then again, some do.. only you know for sure.... as long as you are eating, and you are not starving yourself, you do not have a disorder, but you could have something else wrong which is causing you to lose weight.
For me, I changed my entire eating habits for health reasons.. and I've been under stress.. I know that I am still losing, simply because the two pairs of jeans I just bought two weeks ago, are starting to get baggy on me... :(

You also keep buring calories up to three hours after a cardio workout. So if you're doing it most of your day then you're burning a lot of calories. Anorexics are obsessed with food and eating and weight. They'll often weigh themselves every day (or multiple times a day) or they will think of themselves as fat and call themselves fat. I've been around many bulimic and anorexic people and you don't necessarily sound like one. I often go through "diets" where I'm not necesarily putting myself on one, but I don't want to eat anything except *insert whatever food.* For a while it was applesause and watermellon, for a while it was cheseburgers (gained some weight there;)) etc. This may be what you're doing. If you drop any more weight though I would see a doctor. She might be able to send you to a dietision or something to help you gain some healthy weight back (if that is what you want).
Good luck and keep us posted!
Re: Am I anorexic??? PLEASE HELP!
I did a 30 page term paper on anorexia. Contrary to how everybody refers to the illness, it's a mental issue. NOT physical. Because every side effect of the illness is phyical people have started to believe that not eating=anorexic. It is a huge psychological set of issues that come into play when dealing with the question of is someone anorexic.

I went through this for about 7 years and more, and your right.. After i had been anorexic for so long my father picked all my thin friends out and said "hey, you need to eat, you are anorexic." That pissed me off.
Anorexia means a lot more then not eating. However if you are not eating, and you are way underweight purposly because you want to be so thin, (unhealthy) chances are that you are anorexic.
When i first became anorexic, i was just dieting (11 or 12) and then got obsessed and had a distorted image of myself. Looking in the mirror i would be scared to see my body because i thought i was going to die, But with clothes on, i felt as if my stomach didnt sink in enough and i was fat. 5'1 cardiac compromised and like 55-60 pounds fat.
