Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
I'm in Texas also and one of our DJs will not only "back it up" for about 30 sec for a dancer who has a lot of people at her stage (this doesn't bother me much), but he will also do it for himself - like 2 MINUTES - because he's having a conversation with someone or the next dancer hasn't figured out what she wanted to hear yet. Or else he'll heckle the crowd for a minute or so before beginning the next song. THAT is irritating.
I've only danced in Texas, so I thought this was all over. We have three song sets, so you would think this wouldn't be a problem...
In those cases, I tell the guy I'm LDing that it counts as the next song.

Because they should NOT be playing a 10minute song, period. End the damn song at 3-4 minutes and start the next one. If the $ tippers can't get their asses up to tip her during her set, they can either follow her to the side stage or keep their $. Furthermore, from my experience in TX, I know that if a girl ended a dance when the dj said "song is over" and then tried to sell another, the customers would bitch about getting "ripped off" and most likely not buy another dance. Finally, when the dj overplays songs, it cuts down on the total number of songs played during the shift, which means fewer CHANCES at selling dances, which directly affects the amount of money we can earn. So you see, any way you slice it, that "backup time" is total unproductive CRAP.
Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
Would you rather customers pissed or a few dancers pissed as a club owner?
Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
I personally think that if a guy really wants to spend money, he is going to spend money, unless something REALLY pisses him off. A guy that is furious about only getting one song when he pays for one song was not going to spend that much money in the first place, so who cares if he's pissed. If he wants more, he can pay for it just like everyone else.
This whole "backup time" thing (which thank god I have never experienced) isn't really beneficial to anyone involved. Sure, maybe the dancer onstage gets a few more bucks from the tip rail, but ALL of the other girls money suffers. As a club owner, I would not like that.
Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
My club doesnt actually do that, they screw us in other ways, but that is absolutely horrible and I am sorry you have that!! Our songs are cut to 3 minutes, no matter, then they announce the next dancer and we go up if someone else is still trying to get tips, then she looks like an idiot still up there, so she should've taken them faster in the beginning.
edited to fix my ridiculous typos.

This is exactly right. When the DJ is backing up for even 30 seconds to one minute per popular girl on a weekend night, I'm potentially losing a song every 10 minutes if there is a string of popular girls on stage. What I have myself trained to do is position myself as closesly as possible to customer, so that right as the next song begins, I know exactly when to seductively whisper in his ear, "let's continue......." When the DJ keeps backing the song up, it screws with my zen-like SS flow. And few customers ever just buy one dance.....}:D
Not any big deal really, I am pretty used to it. But our side stages tend to be pretty boring/empty in Texas because that's where all the pervs sit so that no one will bother them. Thus, NOT backing up and telling the dudes to follow dancer to side stage would be beneficial for ALL involved!
Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
Just my $.02, but considering all songs aren't the same length, there's something to be said about a little consistency in the length of a dance. Irritating as cut songs are, they do help make sure that the price per minute of a dance doesn't fluctuate too much.
For every "Freebird" there's a "I Wanna Be Sedated" out there. If I got a dance to the former, I could understand the song being cut. If I got a dance to the latter, I think a little extra time to bring the song up to at least three minutes wouldn't be out of order
Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
Most DJs I've ever worked with won't play a song that doesn't last 3 minutes, period. It's ridiculous to do so.
Gabe hunny, your major lack of experience is showing. ::)
Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
I've had plenty of DJs play 2min songs, or even cut off songs before the 2 min mark for whatever reason. It irritating.
Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
Ugh...I agree that clubs in Austin are bad when it comes to this. You could try doing what I do. When the song is over, and the DJ starts to back it up, I end the dance. After all, I have done the song that the customer has paid for. Only every once in a great while does someone ever say something when I do this, but they always do it in a joking way, and I respond in a likewise manner and say that I DID dance the whole song, and that the DJ has backed up the song so the girl could get one or two more dollar bills on stage.
DJ's here have backed up the song soooo much that I've been able to get dressed, get paid, and find a dance for the very next song, all the while he's still backing up the damn song because the girl on stage will get pissed if the DJ doesn't allow her to get 1-2 more dollars. I've found that by ending the dance once the DJ has backed up, it cuts into my income less. No reason that I should be punished with diminished earnings because some girl is being greedy and uncaring about the plight of her co-workers.
Also, when some girls have been late to stage and they are playing their "break" song I have been able to get a dance and earn $20 instead of just waiting around for the next "real" song to be played.

Yello...the great standby,lol.
Re: DJ, her song is over!!! End the song and announce the next dancer already!
I don't mind longer songs sometimes, especially when its busy. Ya can make good money on stage at least. Our club was suppose to cap the length yet never have.
On the flip side i cant stand >:( dancers that don't listen to the DJ or know their music well enough to know its almost time or time to get off stage. If its dead in the club and I'm not doing a themed outfit fine. Yet when its packed and I'm getting ready to do a themed outfit to a certain song for my next set, Get Off the Stage when your suppose too!!!! I had a dancer recently not get off stage tell halfway into my SONG!!! I had to call the DJ to get her off. I wanted to kick her as*!!!! GRRRR:banghead: :censored:
