my response is always this : "oh really? well, that's nice, but i'm not "blank" i am christopher. i believe he works Xday and Xday. work with him, honey, if it's that important to you." there's always one guy that breaks format in obnoxious ways. always. i do love it when they tell me "oh the other guys play it for me", not thinking of course that i am friends with the other guys and have already had this discussion about this girl asking for crap music all the time. i think i've been in the game a bit too long to fall for such lines....but yeah ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH is right.
On those rare occasions where I have had severe trouble with a particular dancer, I will without hesitation tell her to please work with the other DJ, and remind her which nights he works. Sometimes this will only result in an indignant reply that she will work whatever night she chooses, but the point has been madeespecially if the other DJ is a worthless schmuck to begin with.Quote:

What song was it?? LMFAO I simply tell her "I DON"T WANT TO!!!" lol I really want to know what song it was though.
Y cant the dancer hear what she wants to hear? Is is that bad of a song? not suited for the type of club or clients?
Usually when I say I won't play something I have a really good reason, whether it be what type of crowd I have at the time, management, and sometimes becasue I just played the song 10 minutes ago.
hate gives valid reasons, but there are many many more. i'm not a random cock who just doesnt play things for no reason. in fact, i play some fairly off the wall stuff from time to time. however, there are just some things i WILL NOT play. and that's how it goes. maybe the other guy will, hey more power to him. but the bitchiest girls like this who do nothing but make demands and whine about me never playing anything they like are, 9 times out of 10, the ones who "dance" EXACTLY THE SAME to no matter what gets played. oh, and they never tip either. that doesnt help. and for every dancer who tells me if i play her "locked up" or some other ghetto shit, at my largely blue collar, upscale club..."it wont matter, if i am into it- the guys will be"...i watch 10 guys get up and leave the tip rail. entertainers need to understand that ultimately, my job is keeping the clientele in the bar, happy, and spending money. which is also their job, so alienating them in any way just to hear some song you can play in your car after work seems pointless to me. and before anyone tries to flip on me, please know i love most of "my girls" and will do almost anything to accomodate them. but...yeah. i am not a jukebox. if you want one, go dance at the corner bar up the street. //:endrant:
And BTW yes.................Barbie Girl by Aqua is that bad of a song. LOLQuote:

So I said what the hell, and put my timer on when I played the song for this girl. WE HAVE A NEW RECORD!!!! At 15sec. into the song, my manager calls me to remind me that we are not the ghetto club down the street.
When she got off stage I informed her as to the 86ing of her beloved song and offered to make her a copy of it to listen to at home. The kicker to this story is when the shift was over she was seen getting into a car with a customer in the parking lot adjacent to ours......now she is 86'ed.
Short version. I'll play what girls want on slow nights...I'll play what is going to go over well on busy nights.
by the same token, i have noticed on "slower" nights that many of the custies stay for a great deal longer, and the girls seem to make money. so yeah, i might play a few things i wouldnt play on the weekend...especially something a little slower, but overall i dont vary all that much. just because it's slow doesn't mean i should completely bore to tears the 15 guys that are in there. "but there's nobody here!"....."right, babe, and if i play that, there will be even LESS nobodies here". personally i think the girl should give a little EXTRA effort for those few guys, and maybe make a regular. most regs i know prefer the so called "down" nights anyway. this is all providing, of course, that the guys are at least tipping and/or paying attention....not with their back to the stage watching the game. i notice more VIP rooms and such on slow nights, too. it's all in how you play the game.
Hey there Big Green.... I'd like your advice on this one, I was about to write a thread when I read your griping (not that it bothers me!)
Well, we have a certain dancer at my club that controls the line-up and the DJ's, YES she controls the DJ's. She hangs out with them and decides who dances with who, well whenever she is there I am one of the last ones up, now I don't want to be first, but when I am the first dancer dressed and ready, why am I last? And the other night the DJ playd Alanis Morrissette for me (YUCK!)
I know the DJs get sick of my songs, but why don't they ask me before they play the stuff that I continually ask them not to (I have a feeling she suggested it).
I try not to ask for songs and try never to say that the other DJs do it for me, but how do I stop the dancer controlling my songs?
You DJs are in charge, what do you think I should do about it?
(Did I mention she's a B*tch?) sorry, it's just getting really old and since you hate in when we try to control you, think about having someone you work with (in the same profession, controlling your night?)
Thanks to anyone in advance for advice.
the only time i have ever played a song another girl suggested for a girl was on say a sunday night when we were bored and it turned into a friendly little battle. "hey, christopher......jersey really really wants you to play milli vanilli for her. seriously she begged me". so, knowing theyre friends, i did it, and of course sent it out by request from the other girl. then after that girl got offstage she said "oh man, that was SO great thanks....hey i think anna really wants to hear some new kids on the block, man....hook her up". this degenerates into "what is the worst conceivable song the dj has" and can be entertaining, the customers even got in on it.
but no, i would never play a song some random girl told me to play, especially if i knew in advance it wasnt something you would like. fuck that.
DJ's control the show. Managers control the DJ's. Find some S.I.N. and take it to the manager. Be careful of what you wish for, though. Our booth was moved up to the roof and entertainers caught coming up there will have their lease terminated.
lol i swear i wasnt gripin! It was just a random rant that kinda turned into a thread!lolQuote:

No way should a dancer control the line up.Even if she is blowin the dj or paying him extra.
Im sure you have seen the two list I use at the start of the night.
the first list is the roster.Thats all the girls that are there ready to go.Its kinda like a pallot of different color paints.
I then take the pallot of colors and try to paint the best possible picture.I try to seperate the blondes, the big boobs, the fake boobs, the newbies, the woc,the girls fighting with each other, music taste, etc.
When its all done, you get the Declaration of Rotation.:)
If done right, you get a smooth flow of all kinds of girls. This will stop the custies from getting bored or overstuffed with one type of girl and leaving early.
5 big boobed blondes in a row,5 woc in a row,or 5 newbies in a row will kill a room.
Look at the girl who is up before you and after you when we work. They are either newbies or total ops of you.I use your strengths to prop alot of girls up,this keeps the show running smooth.
If a dj isnt doing this,he is hurting his money, your money, and the clubs money.
Im not crazy about your music, but im not crazy about most of the music i have to play.Your music is on format and i have no problems in playing it.The other dj's shouldnt either.Quote:

As a suggestion, pick each and every song you want.YOU dictate to him what you want, not the dancer who is blowing him or paying him extra. Its on format and he should be playing it.
If you dont ask for music, its a spot where the dj can toss on a custie request or he can toss on what he likes,or the girl blowin him likes.
If he doesnt play your music or something real close,he isnt using you to your full potential when your on stage. And when you come down pissed,he is costing you money in floor time.(pissed off dancers dont do alot of lapdances)
Pick your songs for awhile.Lets see if that helps.
If her name is samantha lynn, your screwed.Thats just life.Quote:

If its anyone else, tell me the name and i will nip it in the bud.(specially if its a redhead we all know and love.I have been waiting for an exscuse to walk her to the door.)
You do have an advantage, you dont have to work there on the nights those dj's are there, you can always set it up to work at the downtown club.If this sounds like a good idea, tell the mgr you want to rotate between clubs. If you get a "No"or any problems, tell me and i will shake the sugar tree so to speak.
I will be meeting with the king in the morning and will be working that club tomorrow night. Please send me a pm with the names and i will start fixing this asap.
Your an asset to what i do,and your an asset to the club.Your on time and pay your fee's accordingly and your never a problem. You have earned the right to be happy and not be fucked with by some putz dj and their girlfriends.
That's the funniest thing I've read on this board! ;) Maybe just because I know who you're speaking of!Quote:

I'm guessing woc=women of color, but I'm not entirely sure.Quote:

Not to be mean or disrespectful, but we all have newbies,"slightly"overweight dancers, and just plain butt ugly non dancing waitresses wanna be a dancer on our stages.
Where i work, you will see these, just like anywhere else, but on the nights i work, you will only see them for 6 mins, then its one of our stars or veterans. If you dont like the star, she will be gone in 6 mins and you will see a completely different female type.
5 newbies in a row,or 5 overweight entertainers in a row will for sure clear the room before your stars get on stage.
A well balanced show makes money.a cluster fuck only makes money for the hottie entertainer.
the club i am at now, the shift is 4-2 (for me). the 4-9 girls tend to straggle in, and i am guilty of the whoever is ready thing when we first open. but when night shift starts, i of course try to space everybody out, either by looks/race/body type or by music as well. helps with the flow. and once all the day girls are ready, i'll switch them around a bit if need be. day shift can be a totally different animal.... usually only 1 or 2 girls onstage, whereas at night it's 3 on the mainstage so it helps to mix it up, for everyone's sake.
Well Big Green, I will be seeing you soon and I will let you know the deal... I don't think it's the red head, actually I don't know who you are talking about.... So I guess I'll find out about that from you later...
I was just really mad about the whole deal of my asking for something over and over and gettting the yes, ma'am and no results.
I think you are a great DJ and I've told you that before. You don't have to play everything I want, I never expect that because I kow that you try to keep it close to what will make me money, but to play something off the wall for me! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... and yes pissed of dancers do very few lap dances...
Anyway thanks for the responses and much love...
Yea but it always looks like your undressing me with your eyes when ya do it so i still wonder at times,is it my djing or my god like boyish looks?hehehehehehehQuote:
