Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
At my club, we pick our own music or bring in a CD. This girl last night brought in her own CD and usually I really like the music she plays.
HOWEVER!!
She played "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me!!!! WTF?!?!
That song is played at church and is about Jesus Christ!! WTF?!
Customers were so offended the DJ had to cut it off halfway through!!!
I couldnt dance to that, and I lost a customer cuz of it! most of the girls were BLOWN. and offended.
maybe Im making too big of a deal... BUT NO ONE WANTS TO THINK ABOUT RELIGIOUS STUFF WHEN THEY HAVE A STRIPPER GRINDING IN THEIR LAP!!
WTF?
Anyone else ever ran into that?

Odd.
I've always thought a stripper grinding in my lap was a religious experience.
Certainly boosts my regular attendance and I always tithe my feminine priestesses generously.
Then I come to SW for my daily confessional.
:D

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
I have been known to play "Kum By Ya" or "Be Careful Little Eyes" after closing time just to empty the place out. My favorite was when I played "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" by Tennessee Earnie Ford to empty out the club. Talk about ruining a mood. LOL

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
I was thinking about using Etta James, Son of a Preacher, but on second thought, maybe not.

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
I prefer Polka music during my LDs

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
My club has played "Dare you to move" by Switchfoot and although that song is played on popular radio stations, it is by a Christian band and is a Christian song! I was a little weirded out when the DJ played it but it doesn't sound too blatantly religious if you don't pay that much attention to the lyrics! lol! It sounds cool at least!

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
I'm glad I have 0 knowledge of christian music. I do believe that Evanesence used to be a Christian rock band though, correct? And Jars of Clay? Figures, both of those bands suckass.

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
NAw to Evanesance. Amy Lee did an article in I believe BLENDER about that. But Creed on the other hand.......

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
P.O.D. are xians as well. i never really cared, unless your songs were blatantly sappy and preachy. different strokes and all that.

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
Hehe, I met Scott Stapp of Creed at the SC. He kissed me on the mouth and tried to slip me the tonge, some Christian! J/K, he was really nice and polite aside from that.

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
yeah, He came into Delilah's a couple of times. i was freaked out by how short he was.

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
The only even remotely religious song I've heard in a club is a Creed song. I don't even know how someone could dance to anything religious, most of them are pretty depressing.
-
Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
Most clubs play creed....That's the only 'xian music' I've ever heard in any of them. I think I heard "Stomp" once by Kirk Franklin. LOL
-
Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
You mean those Gregorian chants aren't played universally?
-
Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
I heard that "Only imagine" song once while travelling, on a pop radio station. I thought it was weird to play on a pop station (I think there was a Nelly song right after) it sounds double wierd to play it in a club and dance to it.

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
this isn't really a church song... but the dj plays "jesus walks" by kanye west... which i thought was a little strange... especially since the whole part "To the hustlers, killers, murderers, drug dealers, even the strippers..."... i love how it's like "...even the strippers"... like were worse than the murderers and drug dealers... it kinda pisses me off... ::)

Yeah, he is teeny tiny! I would not have known it was him if his friend had no told me. He actually is pretty cute in person. Doesn't validate his crap music though, bleh!

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
a girl at my club dances to 'jesus walks' like every night, i like the song, even though i'm not at all religious...but the girls who are hate that she plays it...

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
That's pretty corny..........::)

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
Christian Top 40 is one of the hottest radio formats around...no wonder it's making inroads at clubs. Although a bit odd, I don't have an issue mixing religion and stripping (or sex) - I know when I'm in an SC, I'm certainly giving thanks (and large portions of my bank) to the gifts that are all around me ;)
Seriously...it's weird, and I can see some fundamentalist "churchies" having an issue...but is it wrong? I don't think so. I'm not surprised some Christian rockers have been seen in your clubs!

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
Ok so "Son of a Preacher' gets a big NO, right?

I've played it a few times. It works if you have the right crowd. I mean I wouldn't say "NO", but don't overplay it.

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
Personally, I think it is a beautiful song. It wouldn't be offensive at all to me if they played that song at the club. Dancing is an art form, and a graceful dancer could do the song justice. As previously stated, a lot of christian music is played in the clubs. I would rather do a dance to a song like "I Can Only Imagine", then a song like "Roses". I have heard that he is actually saying Boo Boo, not Poo Poo, but who wants to give a dance when it sounds like the guy is saying "smells like Poo Poo"! Now THAT I find offensive! My club plays a lot of rap, and this was played a lot when it came out. "Jesus Walks" is also played at my club, and it did strike me as an odd song to play at a strip club, but no one was offended by it.
I think people need to lighten up. Christians can be dancers and they can be customers at the strip club, so why can't a beautiful song like that be played at the club. If people think that playing a song like that in a club is offensive to their religion, then what about dancing in general? Is that also offensive to their religion? To some people it is, and that's why they don't go to the clubs in the first place. As for the people that don't find it offensive to go to the clubs, then they shouldn't find it offensive for christian music to be played.

Re: Playing Church Songs To Strip To?!?!
I just felt it was VERY inappropriate NOT because Im religious (because Im not) but because it made people uncomfortable- it IS a beautiful song, BUT it is essentialy about when you die and go see Jesus - which logically leads to the next thought - where you go after you die. And a lot of people believe in heaven and hell. The LAST thing you want your customers thinking about is," Am I going to hell because I am lusting over this hot babe grinding in my lap even though Im married and have 5 kids????? Its a simple business observation, not a fundamentalist Christian belief trying to elicit guilt.
SINCE YOU ASKED, not trying to open up a can here, BUT no, dancing is not offensive to the Christian religion, because being a Christian is based on showing love to everyone, not beating them down with rules and regulations (contrary to the way some of them act sometimes).
Stripping, although an art form, is essentially tempting a man sexually so he will give you money. God says NOT to tempt your brother or be the one to make him fall (dont make me pull out my Bible), so LOGICALLY, stripping IN AND OF ITSELF violates God rules (as put forth in the Bible). Now if you are not relying on the Bible for where you get Gods rules, then thats a whole different argument. But the basis of Christianity stands on what is in the Bible. Like I said before, IN THE BIBLE it says NOT to tempt ANYONE for any reason. Dancing in and of itself IS tempting a man sexually to get his money. No, we're not evil. BUT
with that logic in mind, I have to disagree- if you are a dancer, you are NOT a Christian. you can have Christian beliefs, and vow to follow all Gods laws once you are done with the adult industry, and God still loves you very much, BUT... you are not a Christian if you are a stripper. You can tell yourself that you are, but it does not change the truth, and would probably do yourself good to stop fooling yourself.
