Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
It sounds pretty interesting to me, I'd at least go there and check it out. See what it's like, get more details, etc. If you still are interested, I say audition.
Definitely check it out first and see what it's all about!
Good luck, and let us know how it goes! :D
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
I've heard that it is a whore house (which is fine for you if you're a prostitute.)
Otherwise check out Broadway Showgirls, Hustler, or Gold Club for topless. Centerfolds for nude--- any place else is a whore house.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
Hey thanks guys,
My friend said she knows someone who works there so we might check it out.
Someone told me to check out hustler also...
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
The Lusty Lady isnt really a strip club. Its more a show club where you dance behind a window. Usually full nude with dildo shows and such. Kinda strange setup if you're used to the standard strip club BUT its not any more a whorehouse than other clubs. You can get laid in any club.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
^^Correct, you can get whatever you want... even in the cleanest of clubs.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
The Lusty Lady isn't a strip club. It's a peep show. You are in one side of a little booth, and customers go into the other side and push money through a slot to you. They have to put tokens or something in to keep the window open and be able to see you, and they have to put money in to get you to dance/masturbate/whatever for them. I think they jack off while watching you.
Culturally it seems to be where the hip, academic, feminist girls work (I base that entirely on the writings that I've seen come from those girls, I've never been there). I think it pays 10-15 dollars an hour plus tips. It's the first club anywhere to be owned by the dancers - the owners were going to sell it and the dancers wound up buying it.
I'm not sure if I'd work there, but I would definitely check it out just cause it's weird and interesting.

Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
How could this club POSSIBLY be a whorehouse? You are BEHIND GLASS. There is no contact.
At least at the Lusty in Seattle, the pay starts at $12 or $13 an hour and goes up by a dollar after every two months. You are dancing in a little mirrored room with 1-4 other girls while customers are on the other side of the glass, often masturbating. You do not recieve tips, so there's no competition.
There is also a one-on-one fantasy booth where you can do one hour shifts, and you keep half of the money you make here, so you can make a lot more, but they are only hour shifts and some girls do not feel comfortable masturbating, talking to customers about their fantasies, etc.
I have a friend who works there. It's not for me, I don't like the idea of guys paying quarters to see me fully naked, and since they only give you about 10-12 hours a week, there is no way I could pay my bills with that little money. But I can see why it would be nice to work in a noncompetitive, unionized, feminist environment like that.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
oh man, i would LOVE to work at The Lusty (even though the pay isn't trememdous) just because it is so legendary. everyone cool has worked there; Carol Queen, Carol Leigh, Elisabeth Eaves. Damn, I've read so many books about this place. It seems like every sex-positive, feminist stripper/ writer has worked there. I think you should go for it, and if you aren't making enough cash, then work at a regular club a few nights a week. Also, you should read Bare by Elisabeth Eaves...it's all about her experience at The Lusty. Or see the movie Live Nude Girls Unite, also about The L. Good luck!
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
Izzy, you should read "The Lusty Lady" by Erika Langley. She is a photojournalist who worked at the Lusty in Seattle, taking pictures and writing to document her experience. Check out www.erikalangley.com. Also, it is breifly mentioned in "Strip City" by Lily Burana.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
Bah! Screw that! How is working a peep show feminist at all? The job is still entertaining male visual pleasures. At least with stripping, you can empower yourself financially. For $12 an hour spread and finger yourself while the guy jerks off? Its not even enterpeneurial!
There is nothing wrong with doing this job, I actually find it kind of erotic in my own fantasy world, but I would not hold it in any higher regard than any other sex work.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
Hey girl. Lusty Lady is a peep show, but there is not alot of money to be made unless you start working in their Private Pleasures booth. There is no customer contact, EVER. A good person to talk to about the Lady is MikiMoto here on SW, although I don't know if she checks her inbox often. I know and have met her on several occasions and she has worked at the Lady for a long time.
One of the upsides of this establishment, other than no contact whatsoever, is that you get an hourly wage and the option to become a union member. I will contact MikiMoto and have her put in her 2 cents on the subject.
FYI: Hustler is drama central right now, so beware. It's easy to get sucked into it when you are younger and a new dancer.

I think it would be cool too. Not like longterm or anything, but just because it kinda has a legacy. I'd like to try a peep show.:O

I know. One of the problems I had with Erika Langley's book is that her view of the customers was so disdainful and full of contempt, and that she also looked down on girls who danced at clubs instead of peep shows because they had to have contact with the men. I have also noticed that the girls I've met that worked at the Lusty also seemed to think they were "above" working at a regular club. Whatever, I do this job for the money, and the choice between making $500 and $5,000 a month talks much more than this supposed "empowerment" ever would.
I think that the thing that is supposedly "feminist" about it is the no-contact, no-competition environment, but other than that, I got nothin'.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
i don't see what's 'feminist' about no-competition. i feel like it's more feminist to give the level of contact YOU prefer and still bank rather than work in a constrained environment where you can't even hope for 500-1k+ a night. and this in sf, with its crazed costs of living. i mean, i'd think a feminist would want to show she could compete with her talents/sales skills/looks and so forth.
as for no-contact, there's nothing wrong with men, to me, that makes interacting with them all that bad. i mean, the upscale-club dancers can often airdance in many instances and make 1k/night or close to it fairly easily. i don't see how that type of 'contact with men' is disempowering. who wouldn't love to sip champagne and collect 300-500 an HOUR for her time?! that would beat masturbating in a booth for maybe 15 an hour. at least, i'd feel more empowered in the former instance than the latter.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
I don't believe there is only a base pay. There's GOT to be some form of tipping going on.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
Yukk!!! Don't go there, you're too pretty! If you're going to dance anywhere in SF, I suggest Broadway Showgirls, Gold Club, Hustler, Centerfolds, Roaring 20's or Hungry I. 've listed them from best to worst, but they are all still decent clubs with a great-good earning potential. I myself though SJ was very slummy and cheap. Sacramento is pretty good. I've been working in Sac/SF for 2 years, so this is first hand 411. Good luck sweetie!
BTW, there is NO additional tipping besides your wages. Once you see what kind of girls dance there, you'll understand.... :-\
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
And Lorelei: Not EVERY other club on Broadway is a whore house. Some may do their own thing outside of the club, Centerfolds has plenty of girls who also escort on the side, so does Showgirls (I worked at both at least 6 months each). I got tired of the way the large clubs worked, so I tried out the little clubs. LD's- whorehouse Garden- yuuukk! I'd only suggest the Roaring 20's if your looking for a small club.

No, once again, no tipping. I have a friend who works there, and the only time you'll make more than base pay is if you do the "private pleasures" one on one booth, and most girls do not do that.
Miabella, I agree with you 100%, you mentioned pretty much all the reasons I decided to work at a strip club instead of the Lusty.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
i think the reason that it is considered a "feminist" establishment is because it is a co-op, run by women, who take other women's needs into consideration...and it is supposed to have an atmosphere of respect and pride. in my mind, a feminist action or choice is any that a woman conciously makes for herself...plain and simple. i consider working in a strip club to be a feminist choice for myself because it is subversive, against the norm and i am honouring and expressing my sexuality.
ps. everyone needs to read the book Real Live Nude Girl by Carol Queen, seriously, it will change the way you look at stripping, sexuality, life, everything. it's amazing.
Re: The Lusty Lady Theater
I work at the Lusty Lady in San Francisco. It's a peep show where there is zero contact. You often work on a small stage surrounded by windows with 3-4 dancers. You are often paid a wage for dancing on stage. The Private Pleasure booth is a small room separated by a glass window from the customer. What you want to do and charge in the booth is up to you, but the co-op gets a cut of your profits. Give it a shot, Evil Hippo. We often need new dancers because people are always coming and going. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, ladies!

Miss Jess, I just started full time at Hungry I and I have to disagree that it is the worst. Smaller, maybe. But there's alcohol, customers are not allowed to touch and there is a 3 second grind rule. It's safe to say it's the cleanest club in SF. The money is not big, but it is consistent, unlike Hustler and the other alcohol clubs. I love it there, it is a fun, relaxed environment. A refreshing change from the high stress environment of the Hustler Club.;D
