Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
Ok- I was telling some family that I was working in an office, and now they are starting to ask what the number is there in case of an emergency...
I said, They don't like personal calls, dial my cell.
But I feel bad lying..However, telling the truth would only make my life hell.
They might be cool with me saying I waitress in a SC, if I emphasize the money aspect/and the schedule flexibility, or how it makes more than waitressing at a resturant. Oh, and the family lives close by me, so if I DID say a resturant, they would want to come and see me lol.
Maybe babysitting? animal sitting? Telemarketing?(Lots of those places in Tampa), that way they can't get through. Maybe QuestDiagnostics(freighting medical supplies) so my cell would have to be the only way.
Thanks for suggestions :)

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
Hmmm. I remember telling my boyfriends that I worked as a waitress or something. Now a lot of the clubs here have the rules,"No family/boyfriends allowed"...It keeps drama, jealousy, etc out of the club.
Babysitting is a good cover! And so is Telemarketing.

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
oh god.. It seems that they are already suspicious if they are asking ?'s
I have no good advice here. Im not a good liar. As much as i'd like to think my family doesn't know, i believe they might. They don't talk about it though (conservative)

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
Oh girl, i'm in the same shoes as you so I know how that is! LOL. I say i'm going out clubbing. ::) And that soon I was gonna look for a job as a bartender.
But wait, you told them you started working in an office. So you dance during the day? Wow, during the day excuse must be really tough then...sorry. You can't tell them that you got a job that's really far from home or something? Yeah, that job phone number excuse was good too btw. ;)

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
Tell them you work at home.....Like some 'home business' thing. Wow, this is tough. My parents really never asked me what job I had, I think they felt it was safer not to ask.

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
Well..They all work 9-5's, so it's not like they can bust me if they see my car at home & not gone...
I already had to hide a boob job this year, that was fun explaining ::)
The far from home is a good tactic, like maybe say it's in an area they aren't familar with.
The babysitting I like, the schedule would still be believably flexible...
Thanks you guys :)

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
If you are seccesful in dancing and making the cash, maybe you can concider haveing a privet talk with them. and tell the truth. let them know it is getting your bills paid.

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
I say I work as a diner waitress (hey, I don't make more than that some nights!), and that I work third shift. That mostly explains why I don't wake up until 2 or so. Would they come out for the late, late shift just to see you? Or do you work days/early nights?

You work at a mortgage company (perhaps Di-tech.com) in the lead generation department... all phone lines are always filled with outgoing streams, as numbers derived from internet leads are auto-dialed by the computer system with no time in between (wasted time is wasted money)... The company doesn't let employees give out any of their land line numbers, because this form of solicitation is technically illegal, and many states do random sweeps of all phone numbers recieving more than 10 incoming calls a day from DIFFERENT numbers... If a company is found to be in violation, they will be fined between $2 - $5K per instance, and have to establish new phone lines... this is all tru btw, and if you can exlpain it in this manner, you should be fine ;)

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
One of my day shift favorities told her nearby family that she had a housecleaning business. She saved a lot of grief and money (she couldn't buy the sports car she really wanted).

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
You already told them you work in an office, don't change your story.

Thanks ;)
I own a real estate multimedia company that deals with these kind of issues all the time... very frustrating actually - but if I can help a stripper out, I've done my good deed of the day 8)

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
DJ Russ's story would dovetail nicely with the office story already out there

Dj Russ,
THANK YOU!!!
That is so awesome & they will appreciate the fact I might get fired over it! :)
*wipes brow* Phewww I'm in the clear now...And I actually did tell them it was a mortgage company office the first time they asked. (It was partly true, my friend let me help out there with filing sometimes, then he got in trouble for it)

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
i told mine that i babysit for strippers kids, so that they can make the money and i can keep their kids out of trouble... they think i make $15-20/hour babysitting, and they were happy with that, lol (they know my husbands sister owns an agency, so they never question stuff, lol), however, now i dont do any of it really anymore, so its not an issue...

Re: Urgent! Need realistic "cover job" story
I wish I was still under 18(I'm 20).... I thought everywhere the law was I have to be 21 to be a bartender...I know I can serve beer & wine, but not hard liquor.
