Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
Photo Shop for a Major Name Department Store- we were really there to convince people to spend DOUBLE the amount they intended to, not to take pretty portraits. I didn't have the guts to talk people into buying things they didn't want or need. The manager was a b*tch too.
Winery- I still can't drink or smell wine anymore. I wish it was as cute as the "I Love Lucy" episode where Lucy and Ethel stomp grapes in the vat. It was just plain grueling.
Pathology Lab- I lasted two and a half days. I won't say what almost made me vomit. The doctors and techs were nice to me, though.

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
Ugh. Waitress/restaurant worker, hands down. The other jobs were at least somewhat interesting. Lowest pay was $3.35/hr. I remember working 37 hours a week and bringing home about $100. Back then I rented a room next to the restaurant for $100/month and worked my ass off to keep the bills paid and grades up (it was my senior year in high school, and I was 17). I rode the bus to/from school and worked every night after school, 4-10 and every Saturday 10a-10p. Yeah dancing is definitely better - too bad I didn't discover it sooner!

Cleaning Limo's for a place called "Mr Tease." Some around the beach may remember that place. Beautiful hotel, inside pool, live bands, etc. But paid shit for wages. I picked up condoms with sticks, and vomit with towels in those friggin limo's....Cheap ass holes would not even provide gloves. What i know now...shit.

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
Lol hun! It was gross i tell ya. NEVER clean out a limo...EVER. }:D
But i was too damn young to know any better i guess. Friggin used condoms? Oh how i remember asking for hand protection, and the manager telling me to pick them up with sticks.....Wtf? Anyway if it counts i only worked there probably a month.

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
I worked at Arby's once, when I was 16. I absolutely hated my manager and hated the job. It was just so...STUPID. You always had to "look busy" so I was constantly wiping down a sparkling clean counter. This was in the mall and lunch hour was a total f*cking mob scene. One day (about 2-3 weeks into working there) I screwed up a HUGE lunch order. Somebody ordered 10 somethings, and I called back the wrong kind of sandwich. Anyhow, the manager was soooo pissed, she sent me home and said I could turn in my uniform later. So I got fired from Arby's. Bitch.
The sad part is it was my first job and I was so eager and excited to work. That lady crushed my spirit. lol
OK, Katharine, your turn!

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
I've had lots of jobs that I didn't like-working at Burger King, hostessing at a restaurant, waitressing, telemarketing, and working in a video store. Working at the video store was actually pretty fun, but I didn't like the fact that we didn't get to take breaks-we were allowed to bring food along, but we couldn't leave the store and we had to eat our lunch right there at the counter-there was no break room.
At all the other jobs that I've had, if a customer is rude to you, you had to just stand there and take it, but with dancing, you can be rude back or just walk away if a customer is being a prick. LOL

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
I've only worked at a grocery store officially, I worked under the table at two friends-of-my-parents stores when I was 14 - one of them sucked so much, when I started she said "I really just need you to sit and answer the phone and ring up items." Okay, easy enough. So, there is no one in the store, she says "oh, can you wash the windows?" Okay, so I do that and then plop myself down, answer a phone call. Woman comes back and is like "you're just sitting around! I don't pay you to sit around!" Uh... okay, give me something to do. So she figures some cleaning tasks [things that look perfectly clean] until I get home. The next day she has me organizing her tax files! what a crazy woman. I begged my mom to let me quit.
The grocery store wasn't too bad, but it wasn't a dream job by any extent. A lot of people told me that if I took a break from school [one year] then I would never go back - au contraire! After that year I totally never wanted to work for minimum wage for the rest of my life, if anything it motivated me to go back to school.

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
I worked at a pork plant(slaughter house) on the kill floor. Not very many women and very few caucasions. Not many people could understand english.I made 9.00 or so and cut glands off the tongues and sorted cheek meat to make sure no some kind of cartlidge or lip pieces wasnt attatched ,the cheek meat becomes sausage eventually.I vomitted daily for about a week from the smell when I first started.I had to get used to getting blood on me and seeing horrific things.Worst job imagineable.I worked at the plant for probably a year.Dancing is so much better.

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
I w--ked the counter at a Dairy Queen one summer in HS cuz my father thought the experience would do me some good. It was back in my teenage-fat days, and I got miserably hounded by my friends.
By a bit of irony, it was ALSO the summer I perfected giving a b/j, and my b/f would come in and give me this real smirk and order an ice cream cone. (Yeah... you had to be there and be a snot-nosed 16 year old to appreciate ANY of that).

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
My 1st job. I was either 15 or 16. It was in a closing-down clothes retail store in an area that was due to be demolished shortly after. It was not so nice. The clothes were nasty and were always covered in dust and dirt as they spent more time on the floor than on the hangers. The staff room was downstairs in the dark where there were rats (no joke). You could hear them scuttle across the floor.
And the worst part; I was paid peanuts! Somewhere between the range of 1.90-2.50 pounds per hour. After 2 weeks of full time employment, I walked away with little more than 100pounds. I think that's close enough a definition of slave labour in a civilised society as you'll get!

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
I've worked a lot of jobs before becoming a dancer, Fast food, retail, truck dispatch, auto detailing, waitress/ cocktail, grocery, musem tour guide (very fun, no money). I worked a long time in the wedding industry, and really enjoyed that a lot, I will probably return to bridal gown sales when I am done being a dancer.
But the WORST job I've ever had was at a club being a dancer. I love dancing, and have worked at some shady places, but one of them takes the cake. It was the Showboat Showclub in Anchorage Alaska in 1999.
This place was pitched to me by a manager I never saw, and he made it sound like the girls were all treated like goddesses. I get there and the place is basically a brothel. I was okay with contact during dances, and I learned how to hustle pretty quickly (took me only an hour or two to figure out that the guys weren't going to approach me), but I had to watch other girls giving bj's in VIP, there was a $50 off shift fee (meaning the girls could return with the guys to their hotel rooms for a while and then return to the club after).
Now if that was where it ended, I would be okay with that. I could just quit and find another club to work for. The other clubs wouldn't touch me, as I was "under contract" with the Showboat. They had paid for my plane ticket, but I paid them back immeadately. But the reputation of the place made the other clubs not want a showboat girl in their place. I figured I would make what I could off of doing clean dances then go home as soon as possible. By my second night, other dancers stated f-ing with me. I was harassed by a couple of girls, and my stuff started dissappearing out of my locker. The cocktail waitresses were full of good advice about how I would make soooo much more money if I was a lot dirtier in my dances. I kept going and made money off of out town guys that didn't know that the club was a total brothel.
By the third night I was starting to get physically harassed by the other dancers, I was informed by management that I needed to get a lot dirtier in my dances, and a guy got really upset at me because I wouldn't let him fondle me in VIP. We were working from 6pm until 6am. I waited until 8am and got a cab to a travel agency and bought me a ticket home three days from then.
I went to work on my fourth night, and met another girl from Oregon, who was crying every night after shift. She was stuck because she had no money, and felt that she had to do the extras as she had three kids at home, and a deadbeat husband to support. One of her kids was only three months old. We shared a hotel room for the next two nights. I hooked her up with a really cheap plane ticket, and off we went home.
That place is exactly what I had thought exotic dancing was like before I ever got into it. I'm glad that places like that are the exception, and not the rule!

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
When I was sixteen I was the night auditor/front desk person at a really crappy hotel in the middle of a block full of bars. I worked all night long and went to high school during the day and lived in a truly scary apartment near the hotel. After like two weeks the night security guy got all fucked up on PCP and alcohol and got really violent. I didn't want to call the cops cause I knew he'd get fired and he was the only one who protected me from all the other crazy violent people who wandered in, so me and a couple of the customers handled it (I came out of it with a black eye, a couple bruises, and a lot of respect from everyone who was there). Somehow the manager found out anyways and he got fired and it "wasn't in the budget" to hire another one. They gave me a baseball bat and put 911 on speed dial. I was held up at gun point once, knife point twice, and once with a water gun. I was sexually assaulted twice, got in a lot of physical scraps, learned how to do a citizens arrest (in Ak almost anyone can do them), was a witness in two murder cases and got to know all the cops on a first name basis. All within like three months that I worked there.

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
The only other job I've had besides dancing is working in restaurants as a waitress and hostess. It sucked! At least dancing if someone is rude to you you can just walk away.

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
Holy shit Lena! That's nuts.
I was night clerk/front desk at a hotel once, when I was 18. I had some bad stuff to deal with, but NOTHING like that! I got hired for that job on the premise that drunk guys wouldn't fuck with a young girl...riiiight. I was being paid like 2.50 pounds an hour, and ended up getting fired after I went on a date with one of the bosses friends, and he started crying when I wouldn't sleep with him. I guess the guy was embarassed and told the boss something else <shrug>- I didn't ask.
I did graveyard at a gas station that same year, and got held up at knife point. It was a scary time to be working there though, because there was a guy going around Vancouver dousing gas station attendants with gasoline and threatening to light them on fire. My boss wouldn't let me take the rest of the night off after I was robbed...that was probably my worst job, although I didn't mind it most of the time.
I worked for an illegal travel agency that bought and sold frequent flyer points.. we had to call airlines and fool them into giving us information they weren't supposed to.
I did reception for an escort agency...paid well, but the girls scared me- it was not a high-class joint.
I did 411 for AT&T (from Canada!)- that was not fun. Lots of rude people.

Re: Chit Jobs , Before You Danced... yuk.
worst job ever, coat merchandiser.
Organize billions of coats over and over in a warehouse with nothing but huge racks of never ending coats! I hate coats now lol.
