Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
Hey babe, been there, done that. My whole life trajectory for 2 years has been to avoid college math classes..LOL.
Well, I hope you're not with the boyfriend who made you feel bad about dancing...f*ck those guys, unless they're paying the bills...you know.
Dancing's still fun, you just have to be careful where you go....I've been all over, you can PM me for some leads.
Heck, hang around here, we'll cheer you up!
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
I failed math this fall so have to retake it spring semester. Also, I made the POOR, POOR decision to drop chemistry last semester (taking it this spring) so now I won't have the necessary prerequisites for upper division classes next year. :banghead: (unless the 2nd chem class I need is offered in summer) I also quit dancing last august and have gained about 15 pounds so I am no longer the svelte, underweight, skinny bitch you see pictured to the left. Oh well! :P I just keep my chin up and coast through life in la-la mode. :D
You'll be fine MotherDaisy! Now you'll really kick ass in math! (me too!) ;)
p.s. nice to see you back!

Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
MotherDaisy, if your college has a tutoring program or math help lab, find someone to work with. Talk with your customers about school.
I had a bright favorite who would be a wonderful nurse, but she dreaded the math requirement. I actually tutored her in the college library. She'd come out of class in tears, but I'd calm her down, and she'd get it within an hour. She earned the grade she needed, and now she can complete the degree.
You still have the focus, and that's what counts. Stay with it and know that we're all rooting for you. :)
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
SportsWriter2 ,
That was such a very sweet thing for you to do....
I wish I knew someone like you. cuz im facing the same obstical.
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
Hey MotherDaisy Welcome back mama
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
Sportswriter, you should be our SW math tutor. I still haven't taken my math requirement, and last semester I barely barely passed anatomy.
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
MotherDaisy, I really understand. When I'm regularly dancing, I make a concerted effort to watch what I'm eating and work our regularly. I feel good about myself because I take really good care of my body. When I hit a funk or take a break from dancing for a week or two my self esteem drops and I lose my muscle tone. It's lose/lose.
I think it's a matter of taking time during the day to appreciate your body, to count blessings, and whatnot. When I'm dancing, even applying makeup in the mirror before a shift gives me a chance to have "me" time. I carefully groom my hair, shave excessively well, keep up on my nails... My life is organized, too. My costumes are more organized, my laundry is done. I run on such a more efficient schedule when I know I need to be at work for 9:30. It's no wonder dancing makes me feel better about ME.
Coming home from the club and counting dollar bills is such a nice end to a day -- it makes me feel productive and worthy. Without having that financial (as well as ego) boost I feel like I have wasted my day.
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
I'm sorry honey. It's tough- I failed a class in college too- biology and had to redo it. It's understandable- I was a pretty good student and I did it too. Were you working when you were in school? If you were then it is extremly understandable because you had a lot of things to you. If not that's understandable too- I wasn't working when I failed. Also you have a kid so that stretches you much more. I look at the dancers at work who have kids and I think "Wow they're more responsible than me and work much harder than me to take care of kids too (esp the babies)."
Motherdaisy, don't feel bad. My mom was a single mom too and everthing wasn't always perfect but she did the best she could and was a great mom.
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
You should PM Pryce...he may be able to help you get back your old account...
I would suggest that you consider a tutoring program. I had straight A's in all of my other college classes, but Graphing, Trig, and Geometry never made any sense to me. :yuck: So, I know how frustrating it is to be stuck on a class like that. >:(
Good luck!!
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
Oh, dear. Unsettling news. You are NOT a failure--hooray for you for going to school! Lots of people are bad at math, including me. I had to take a couple of Algebra classes for a degree--the classes started off full and ended up with only half the students left. There were 4.0 students who were crying because though they were very smart, they just could not get the math. The good thing about having to redo the class--at least now you know what to expect! Keep pushing, and don't take a Math or Science class during the summer when they are compressed. I took one Math class during a summer--18 weeks compressed into something like 9 weeks, and it was horrible. We were moving at warp speed in a subject that I have never been great at. So keep that in mind. You WILL do fine, no worries.
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
Aww cheer up.. is not the end of the world... i suck at math couldnt do it if my life depended on it. But im better at alot of other things.. Take a deep breath and just relax... the second time around might be easier for you anyways..
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
hun you're definitely not a failure, i JUST barely passed my one Math class that i was required to take, it was horrible, the only way i passed was by programming equations into my graphing calculator... stay strong, and good luck :)
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
Aww, that sucks! I think I'd keep dancing part time through school, the money sure helps and the exercise does too! It's really hard to just jump from dancing to something else without some sort of transition period. Plus I think keeping a balance between work and school helps keep the mind occupied and get out of the funk. You'll be back to your old self in no time! :)
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
*huggles* I remember you! We're both hopefully getting into nursing classes - I'm crossing my fingers that several schools will let me transfer because I'm tired of this stupid one jerking me around. I've got a ton and a half of math stuff behind me, if you ever need any help send a PM or smoke signal or whatever ya need.
And I know I've gained weight too, hee! I took a ten day vacation in November, worked 10 days [over 3 weeks] and then quit that club not quite a week ago. I'm whining about the weight, but need to get back into some sort of exercise regiment [and, oh, I don't know, not devour every tasty looking food offered to me over the holidays - what a silly idea!].
Anyway, it's okay. You're not dancing because you failed, you got set back and yeah, you dance because it's a job. Go for it, but don't go in depressed. Come back and have fun.
Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
MotherDaisy! I've missed you!!!!
I quit dancing myself.. and now I'm in and out of the frying pan.. my god, if anyone could hear the conversations in my car every morning on my way to the office at my day job they'd laugh their asses off. Why did I quit? Should I go back? WTF am I doing?blah blah blah..
You aren' t a failure.. and I think its normal for everyone to go through periods of "down" time when they question themselves, their decisions and the "WHYS".. the key is to learn from whatever hand you are dealt, humor also helps, and if you are truly wondering if you've made the right choice, its never too late to change your mind. The worst that could happen is that you change your mind and it doesn't work out to what you thought it would.. but, don't be hard on yourself.
Many hugs and loves to you!

Re: MotherDaisy Miserable
Lots of useful insights in this thread. Here are a few more suggestions:
Find out the author, title and edition of your math textbook as soon as possible. Then go to and look it up. Follow the listing for used copies and buy a used teacher's edition. These have the answers to all the problems, along with additional teaching information. Then buy a used Schaum's outline for the subject, so you have two ways of looking at a topic.
Very few college teachers have studied the psychology of learning, but tutors in the math help lab often acquire those insights over time. And it helps to know that someone cares about how you're doing. :)
