Mixed girls guide to hair care
Anyone here and african american mix of something?
How do you care for your hair? Make it longer maybe? (yay walmart hair pills!!)
Me..
I have thick curly hair but when I straighten it it can look kinda thin. So, I just compromise with my hair. I sometimes do deep condition treatments with my stylist and sometimes I do them at home. I wash my hair every other day with right now Redken Smooth Down and use the coordinating conditioner too. :)
Re: Mixed girls guide to hair care
Well not really mixed, but one stylist suggested I use African Am. products, on my ends. My hair can get somewhat coarse/frizzy. One shampoo I luv: stevenssalon.com, level 4 type, for chem. treated hair, very mild/gentle & smell like vanilla. When I eat avacadoes, it helps my hair. (Vit. E in them). I like Solray brand hair pills, Hair Blend SP-38, or naturessunshine.com hair pills, both herbal-based. B vitamins, & protein in diet are helpful. Also, shea butter ingredient hair products (cold pressed kind is best) seem to do well for me. I really need to deep condition @ least once a week, since I dye too. Also, I like aquage.com, lamasbeauty.com, uniteeurotherapy.com products. I try not to blow dry or if I do, very little, & the coolest setting. When deep cond., I put plastic cap over my head for @ least an hr, then a towel over that, apply heat.
Re: Mixed girls guide to hair care
I like Aubrey Organics Island Naturals Shampoo and Conditioner. They are the purest shampoos and conditioners I've tried--no chemicals or silicones (which can be drying). I used to use Redken, but they are drying to my hair and scalp. The organic products I use really moisturizes everything nicely. I wash my hair about 2-3 times a week. I use protein treatments maybe every other week. I flatirion (ceramic) my hair about once a week, taking a week break every month. And I make sure to use heat protection. I also use Weleda Rosemary oil, concentrating on the ends. A teeny tiny dab will do. It moisturizes your hair--moisture means more protection from breakage and split ends. I used to do olive oil treatments every other week or so, but have not done them in a while.:( Those help, too. And I use Biotin supplements or Wal-Mart hair pills.

Also, if you can find Wise Ways Herbal products (Whole Foods sells, & health stores), they make a great hair oil, African something. It smells great, they're made by a woman based company. They also make teas, & a great coco butter cream.
Re: Mixed girls guide to hair care
I'm mixed. Before I found bleach I found Jojoba oil products worked great on my hair, though I never had it straightened - I think it works best on natural hair, but it's been alot of years so I really cant remember. I also used to like VO5 hot oil treatments and I think they're ok for treated hair.
Re: Mixed girls guide to hair care
My ex was mixed (jamaican/swiss)
She had thick curly hair. But most of the time she'd straighten it.
She always used this conditioner...i forget the name....but she always used to yell at me for using it...lol...i dont knwo if its really for horses and people just started using it on themselves or what....but that shit is good.
http://www.valleyvet.com/swatches/si..._L_000_000.jpg i think thats it
She also used some sort of kids hair detangler....it smelled like grapes...i suck at remembering names of things.
I guess im not that much help.
Re: Mixed girls guide to hair care
Mane'n'Tail is what SJP from SATC uses on her hair. I'm told that although it has good effects, to be careful because it is heavy duty stuff and in the long term cn leave some serious residue.
I use hair mayonnaise. On top of that I take a slilica tab every day. Silica tabs take up to 4 months to get into the body, but after that, your hair is growing like crazy. I'm at 4 months and I can see the difference already (unfortunately, also on the rest of my body :-[

TigersMilk have you tried going to the local library? They usually have good books about different types of hair, and how to make it behave.
Good luck!

Also, Tiger sweetie, check out the magazines in library/bookstore too. There's tons of product info, a variety of new products, & there's more than a few of ethnic mags. I go to Border's, Barnes & Noble, & even Tower records, & read, read, read. Lots of makeup tip, ideas, & website info, too. I found out about a great hair shampoo from a young girl's mag., lamasbeauty.com.

Weee Im back I just moved and got my cable internet back quick!!
Anyways, I kinda just wanted to see what other mixed people used on their hair. I am definitely going to check out some of the websites listed. I read alot of magazines and chat with my hairstylist about my hair. Hair cant get enough of it. Also, those silica pills sound nice except more hair everywhere but otherwise nice. My hair is really important to me and I just like to see what other girls like me use.

Re: Mixed girls guide to hair care
naturallycurly.com or nappturel.com
try biotera ( you can get it at sally's) as a leave in, I also found that if I use the widest tooth comb possible I don't lose as much hair during the comb thru.
Re: Mixed girls guide to hair care
I found this site while searching for shea butter online. The products look pretty promising and the prices aren't bad either. I am going to order a few items from the.
My hair grows pretty quickly ( even with all the bs my bod is going through) theWalmart pills have helped a lot too. My only real issue with my hair is that it can get very dry and brittle. Shea butter, almond, avacado and olive oil applied to my hair help alot. Plus I take about 5 other oils mixed with juice daily.
