Wal Mart has owned large %'s of several regional banks for years. Arvest being one that is majority owned by the Walton kids et al and found in lots of Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma Wally worlds. Nothing new to see here.... move along.
Did you bother to read the article ?
Did you? My reply was directed at the following quote from the article
"As far as banking is concerned, we do lease space in about 900 of our supercenter stores to regional banks. They are not Wal-Mart operated. It's more of a landlord-tenant relationship," she said. "
My point is that they are leasing space to themselves. While not operated by Wal Mart in name The Arvest Bank locations as well as the Optometrist and Travel agency fronts are 100% Wal Mart money. As I said. Nothing new here in Bentonville or in St Louis where Sam Waltons brothers kids own the Blues hockey team and a whole lotta other stuff. Wal Mart money is sooo spread out among the heirs but still a very powerfulforce when they manage to keep it focused.
Your point with the article was what? That Wal Mart is HUGE and can afford to do about anything it wants? Well DUH.
i didn't read the article cause i was lazy but WAL-MART ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!
Walmart in refining makes no sense whatsoever. Walmart gets its edge by squeezing suppliers. If Walmart tried to squeeze OPEC they would say a big "F-You". Plus Walmart stores are too far apart for an efficient distribution system. Their margin would evaporate in delivering the fuel to their stores which are 20 miles apart.
Walmart in banking is well precedented as a reasonable option. Know what the largest consumer finance company was in 1980---Sears Roebuck!! Cost of providing the services can be centralized and run efficiently and cost/sq foot for realestate are low in store.
I posted the article because I thought others might be interested in reading it.Quote:
