New Book: "The Jerk with the Cell Phone," by Barbara Pachter & Susan Magee
I saw this while browsing at one of the local bookstores. In the humor section, which seemed a little "out of place" as to classification. I didn't buy it, but probably will in the future.
One of the authors was complaining to her dinining companion in the U.K. about people using cell phones in restaurants and how rude people were when using them. The British woman then pointed out another woman near them, and stated she had been having a cell phone conversation the whole time they were dining, but the author never knew it!
OTOH, there were also two incidents described which did resonate with me, having just been to a movie a few days ago where a rather loud ringtone from a woman's cell phone went off during the middle of the movie.
In the first incident, one man asked another in front of him to quit talking on his cell phone. Later during the movie, the guy who'd asked the other one to put away the cell phone then put his feet up on the seat in front of him. Then the guy he'd asked to put away his cell phone tried to stab his foot , although most of the damage was to the shoe.
In the second incident, a young woman (possibly a teenager, the author wasn't sure) was having a great time having a conversation on her cell while everyone else was trying to watch the movie. Finally, one guy had had enough, and walked down to the young woman and dumped his soda on her head. According to the author, she ran from the theater, humiliated. The guy who dumped the soda on her head was then questioned by police, but it was uncertain whether he was arrested. It is still an assault, but not as serious as attempting to stab someone in the foot.
The "Humor" section still seems the wrong place for this book to me.
