[rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
Stop going to strip clubs without intent of spending money! >:( I've ran into so many of you recently. This is one thing that drives me moderately nuts about guys that expound upon how much respect they have for dancers and how some of their best friends/significant others have been dancers - while you were respecting them and becoming their friends, didn't they ONCE vent about the guys coming into the clubs and wasting their time without spending money? I do it all the time. To everyone.
Of course I also don't go on and on about "oh those stupid fat customers who I hate, I hate all men, lap dances are for the pathetic" because honestly I don't believe in that. I bring that up because apparently this is what these guys, who know so many dancers, think that they think. And yeah, there are some nights were I'm like "why does every guy apparently not know how to hold his liquor or operate a shower?" but that's not every night! most of my customers I honestly like, and I like my job which is flirting with them.
Along with that, I believe lap dances are good fun, I LIKE doing them and support them, if not for myself I'll buy dances for friends or give them the money for a dance, or if I was a customer at somewhere with drink commissions buy them a drink. Or if nothing else at all, TIP THE STAGE. All of these guys watch the stage intently, but far enough away to not tip.
And yes, I've met several male strippers who go into clubs with the exact same attitude - "I don't buy lapdances" because, apparently, with our common bond of being strippers, they think it is degrading or something to be a customer - to buy lapdances or tip the stage.
If once being a stripper or dating a stripper or being friends with a stripper or once talking to a stripper on the bus ruins the fantasy too much for you to enjoy being a customer - DON'T GO IN THE CLUBS!!
Sorry if this isn't the right section to post this.
I'm going to start handing out cards for stripperweb at work, if you want to BS with strippers go here.

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
OK, in the UK one form of venue is strip pubs. They have a slightly different system from the American venues you mention - the good old "jug collection". What basically happens is the dancer takes a beer mug, "the jug", around the pub before she does a floor show - the equivalent of your "stage". She expects a tip of at least £1, (say $2), from every one in the pub before she dances.
With a moderately full pub she's dancing 2 - 3 times an hour and probably getting a jug of $30 - $50 each time she collects. Many of the pubs also do private dances at £10 - £20 a time, ($20 - $40) - these are the equivalent of your lap dances. Theese further boost a dancers income, (although she'll ahve the same sort of costs as you: booking fee, stage fee, transport, etc.
If the pub is properly run, anyone not putting into the jug will be asked to leave - in effect making it impossible to get a free show. That said, there's invariably a few idiots who try and avoid the jug - they need to go to the toilet, haven't got any change, going before the next dance, etc., etc., etc.
That said, what's the management doing in your club? Surely, if they're doing their job they'd be whispering in ears to start tipping or else leave the club.

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
Ack, I delayed too long.
Let me add my applause to a nice rant. :P
I'm very self-conscious about my financial duties - maybe too much so. But I won't go unless I'm there to spend and get dances. Now of course sometimes I have to wait, and sometimes that's not so nice having to give the same lame-appearing excuse all the time.
Oh well. Yeah, I just see scads of people that sit around the stage and never tip at all. I think its a reflection of poor quality.

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
Good point Luna....
I have always disliked the guys that come in and then hassle the waitress why they have to buy a drink for themselves (or 2 in some places) then actually come to the stage and DONT TIP!!!...(those people I want to cause serious bodily harm to}:D ) and then they return to their seats to watch the stage for another 2-3 hours not buy any dances. To me 1) thats just rude 2) this to me make some what a negative tone in the SC when 2 or more men are doing this (especially on a slow day).
Because if guys dont see other guys have fun and buy dances or just plain have fun there then the other men that are there may not want dances based on this. It may make the club look "dead"?
I liked being a stripper (and plan to return) like Luna I got to flirt with people give a few great fun dances (dont even get me started on grabby a-holes) and have a few drinks and just have a good time while making money. That part was fun. But, those with absolutely with no intent to buy should just not go to the SC. I dont go into stores unless I REALLY want to buy something. I usually know what I am looking for anyways.

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
[So, my point is, welcome to the real world where not every customer is going to have a gangster roll in his pocket and be willing to drop it all on you.
Ahem. The sorry ass men she is referring to is most likely the ones that come in, sit in the second row, oogle all the girls, and don't buy a damn thing except a few beers for themselves. That is just pathetic. Take your ass to a bar if you want to sit and drink. Dont give me this "Im here for the view" bullshit, and NO your COVER CHARGE INTO THE CLUB does not COUNT towards the dancers, and let me tell you, we get highly pissed off when we come across men like this. We don't expect every man to have a "gangster roll in his pocket willing to drop it all on" us, but we DO expect at least SOME tip on the stage, if not that, at least a tip for conversation, some kind of dance, or a drink. Ugh, men like you are the reason I quit. Here for the view, bullshit..:O

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
Luna, hear hear! I don't ask much of the customers, just that they pay a fair value for their entertainment. If they sincerely hit the club only to talk to the cute bartender and drink beer without even glancing at the naked girlies (I've met guys like this, they do exist) then no worries- have fun and tip the barstaff. Spend money only on dances and use the stage to pick tonight's temporary love of your life if that's your style. Spend only on the ATF. Drink drafts and tip the girls with fake tits. Have one watery Jack and Coke and leave without spending anything else because it's not your kind of place. Whatever suits you, just so long as you do not enter the club with the bald intention of ogling for free all night.

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
I'm also tired of the guys that don't tip and tired of hearing the "deal with it" or "it's your job to perfom." Isn't not really a job unless your getting paid?
I used to work at a club where the DJ's computer screen could be seen from across the room..
It had a delightful little message the said FUCK YOU, PAY ME... Always loved it and always will.

No, it's pretty appropriate given the nature and frequency of the problem.
And ladies wonder why my guard is always up when I first enter a strip club; I'm prepared for the seemingly ubiquitous "You look too young/cheap to have any money to spend so just try knocking the chip off my shoulder..." look from dancers, and I can't say that I blame them given what makes up much of the clientle. Doesn't take too much to disabuse them of any association with the non-spending freeloaders, though.
:D

When I was in college, I used to frequent a stage dance only club that for a short time had an attractive female DJ. About every hour or so, she would state over the mic "And remember gentlemen: money talks, bullshit walks". Funny how I still remember that.

It is rather saddening that some of us who come to a club intent on spending often have to make a show of it to differentiate ourselves. Field experience has convinced me that it's worth the elbow grease though.

:D
You know, I was trying to figure out why, after the three times I've visited the local club (and consequently broken my cardinal rule three times) I've been passed over by virtually every dancer in the club... I've had to stand up and wave dancers over to at least give me a chance...lol
I dunno... maybe it's because I'm fat, smelly and ugly with one hell of a mullet.
I've yet to enter a SC without the keen intent of spending a good amount of money - which is why I only go once every couple of months....
these young n' cheap bastards are making us young n' cheap looking bastards with money look bad. :D

Luna, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to get a dance/spend money at the clubs i go to.Maybe i should just tip all my money at the stage *shrug...

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
That is why, when these guys who have BSed with me for a few minutes and tell me they've dated a dancer or once were one themselves, then tell me they don't buy dances or drinks, while sitting far away from stage, BAFFLE me. They even seem to use this as an explanation, like
me: So, are you ready for a dance?
customer: Oh no, you see, I once dated a dancer and have a lot of respect for you girls, but I don't do lap dances.
That's really the customers I was ranting about, the guys who profess to be knowledgable of dancers, yet apparently aren't aware that dancers don't like to talk to guys for free while at work.
Phil, huh, what an interesting set up! At the clubs I've worked at we go on stage once an hour or so, sometimes during a 7-hour shift I'll only go on stage 3 times. If a fellow is sitting at the stage he is obliged to tip, a bouncer will come over and tell him to move away from stage if he is refusing to tip the dancers - but that is kind of unusual, the two other clubs with stage-tipping wouldn't have done that. We only have 20 chairs at the stage anyway, and a lot more customers than that during the night shift. At one other club I was at we did a tip-walk, were we walked around the bar after our set and got tips, but the guys weren't obligated to tip from that either. I think obligating the customer to tip before the stage would meet with a lot of opposition here!
And you guys that may or may not have dated dancers, or ever known one in a club or over the internet, we loves you! :) I gots no bones with you all. Though I'd love it if you came in and spent hordes of money on me, if you are any of Lilith's described customers, hey all power to you. You aren't the ones this post is directed at.

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
Luna, some guys just have some nerve. I've become friends with quite a few dancers and although I may not always buy dances from them, I've always tipped them quite well during their stage shows. Never saw the point of going to a strip club, sipping your drink, gawking at beautiful naked women and not tipping stageside or buying lapdances.
-
Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
Luna,
Well I haven't been to a stip club in a while, but believe me...I can recall more than one instance where the type of guy you describe watched my lap dance I paid for like it was his lap dance. I hate those type of guys more than you do I bet! :P That's what made me start going right for the VIP room.
I guess some guys view strip clubs as bars and feel watching everyones lap dance is just a bonus.
-
Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
Yep, I've met many guys that will act like they know ALL about dancing since the dated or have friends that are dancers.... It'a NOT the same! I want to yell this at them.... Yiou don't know until you've tried it what it's like and even then, not to be helpful to your fellow dancers is downright cruel.. It's like not tipping your server when you've been in the service industry before... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........
I want a guy to have to dance on stage for a minimum of three songs in a crowded room and then not get tipped and see how he feels afterward.

Oh goodie! Y'know, we never get tired of being told to stuff it because our job is so (easy, lucrative, flexible) or we are so (rich, beautiful, blessed with the opportunity to dance naked). Please be sure to remind us frequently, lest we begin to think that we are mere mortals who are entitled to bitch about our job from time to time.
Oh yeah Lilith.. It was also said that we were all "spoiled" after the post was made.
News to me.

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
orlj29, I haven't work in a club where lapdances are done on the floor, usually they are at least behind a wall or in a different room, and once in a different building! Man, that's gotta be annoying, I've gotten those "i'm gonna stare at the hot girl with that guy" stares when just sitting on a regular's lap - I can't imagine how uncomfortable it'd be to give a dance in that situation.

Luna, as you know, any guy who's dated a dancer would know how important it is to take care of them in the club. You can always spot us by how much we spend. I think these guys are fabricating a pathetic cover story to cover up being cheap. It's the ultimate turn-off.

The Other Owner... You are so wise, thank you!
I wish so many more understood like you.

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
My bf has said he doesn't want lapdances if he's in a club with me. He tips stage a lot, though. His secret dream is to go into a VIP room and play dungeons and dragons with two hot topless girls, though. ;)
-
Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
REally? My Bf loves lap dancers from me or anyone I pcik (I get to pick of course, but I don't dislike that many so his list of choices is pretty long.) He likes to come in towards the end of the night when I am free and he gets as many as I'll give him.. His secret dream is to get a dance from me and another girl that I kissed.... The girl went up to him and told him I was a good kisser and he said he knew that but how did she? Ah men, some suck and some a grrrrrrrreat!

Re: [rant] Guys who have dated dancers or have been dancers
I agree with Luna. Her original rant should be posted in the mens washrooms in strip clubs all across america. (In a perfect world, haha. J/K.) Anyway guys, it's very simple: If you can't pay, then don't play. Period.
