stage SHOW- who does them?
now we all dance on stage and call it a stage show, but who here actually does a SHOW, ie costumes, props, themed music...?
does your club allow it in the first place??
if doing them in competitions only, do you get a chance to practice?
do the punters enjoy them enough to tip/take you for dances afterwards to make the effort worth the time?!
Re: stage SHOW- who does them?
I didn't vote, but I used to do them all the time. At least once a night I was doing a theme show. At the club I'm at now, hardly no one knows what they even are, much less how to do them. *to all the newer dancers sorry about the next few lines.
It's just we have so many NOOBS who watch an episode of HBO's real sex, and think they have what it takes to be a real dancer. I can back to work after my hospital stay with pneumonia(almost a month), and we had 6 new girls. All are 18-20 with no clue how to dance or hsutle or anything. They have no skill, or style or code of honor like the older girls do.
I mean take for example this girl we have working with me. She goes by Gothica. She has jet/blue black hair and does the goth make-up (black lips, heavy eye make-up, etc...). Guess what she dances to?! Bootylicius, or country. Very seldom does she dance to the music that she dresses like. We all have tried to tell her to pick a genre, but she's 18; she knows everything already.
And other girls, are getting into other peoples trunks for latex, hair spray, etc... I tell them not to do it. They laugh, and say what's she going to do? Nothing, that's what. So I had to laught for 2 hours when one of the noobs had her stuff cut up and late poured all over it. I know well over $300 worth of outfits ruined. That's what she got.
Anyway back to topic, I wish I could do theme sets again, but I just don't think that it would go over well in the area of the country.

Re: stage SHOW- who does them?
I'm rediculous about it, to be honest. My songs have to compliment each other, and the music has to go with what I'm wearing, and I turn my set into my own little Broadway musical. Cause I'm a freak like that.
Re: stage SHOW- who does them?
kitana, i know what you mean about noobs, but we all have to start at some time and we all have that same i know all attitude lol god knows i was the worse, but 3 years later , i feel i really DO know, well, most about dancing...ok, a lil bit!
are stage shows not as common now as they were?
slightly related topic, i was just doing a search for burlesque ( sp) and found a site fluffgirl burlesque about a group trying to revive it across usa and europe.
maybe thats what dancing needs!!
Re: stage SHOW- who does them?
All my shows are themed shows, but Vancouver's just like that- even the rookies have to do themes with proper music etc.
Re: stage SHOW- who does them?
The idea of a theme show around here, is if a girl wears a "little girl" outfit and dances to I'm just a girl, or barbie girl. No props to speak of, and they just do a normal dance routine.
I feel ya on the "we were all new, once"; but when I was new and a "vet" told me something I listened. Most of these girls don't.
I used to do theme shows the school girl with ruler and apple. The little girl with suckers and bows, and I used to do a candle show with black light only and smoke for effect.
it's just not the "show" it used to be.

Re: stage SHOW- who does them?
We have one resident feature girl at our club. Lately, she hasn't been doing it though. She's just been doing her pole work. I think they asked her to start up again. The owner gives her a paycheck every week to do it.
Re: stage SHOW- who does them?
Once in awhile I will do a themed show, such as a cop with matching tunes. As Paige said though, I always have to have my music compliment my outfit. Even if it's an outfit that is not in a theme, I tend to pick music to match it or my mood for that matter.
In example...
If I am wearing my black, vinyl shorts with matching black vinyl top that wraps up and around my neck with snaps, I am feeling a little freaky and I am dancing to some heavy metal.
If I am in a corsett, lace bra and fish net stockings, I am feeling sexy and will dance to Chris Issak, Enigma, Prince, Traci Lords.....
