hip hop covers?
hi all--
do u know of any hip hop songs that sample old school music? i work in a club where most of the dancers refuse to dance to anything but hip-hop, and unfortunately most of clientele are older guys. stuff like wyclef - staying alive, tupac - in the air tonite, etc.... is what i am looking for. any suggestions would be appreciated.
thx-jr

Re: hip hop covers?
Almost every hiphop song samples something from an older song, whether it's the chorus hook, or the beat, or a bit of instrumentation. just off the top of my head:trick daddy-"let's go" samples ozzy's crazy train. "sugar (gimme some)" also by trick daddy steals the hook from "sugar on my tongue" by the talking heads. destiny's child's "bootylicious" has the guitar stutter from stevie nicks' "edge of seventeen". the nelly and christina aguilera song "tilt ya head back"uses the bass line from curtis mayfield's "superfly". jay-z's "i know what boys like" takes from several songs. the beat is a chop of either "let's go all the way" or "fly girl" ive never been able to decide which, the chorus is from the Waitresses from the 80's. Lil Kim has a song that samples pat benatar's "heartbreaker", but i dont recall the name of the track right now. She also has a version of phil collins' "in the air tonight". LL Cool J has a version of chaka khan's "aint nobody". this list could go on for several pages.
