Making the best of traveling
How do you make the best of traveling to a different club?
I was thinking of going up north just for a weekend or something to make some extra cash in case things get slim around here. Im only going 1 1/2 to 2 hours away. Ive done the travel to Reno thing when I lived in Sacramento but I really dont think I made the best of my time there. I know to pack extra things and have a financial goal in mind as well.
After I arrived in town usually about night fall either if I had time go to work that night after a 1-2 nap or just stay in and go work the next morning. The next mornings shift was 11-8.....I could stay later if I wanted but that meant another house fee for that shift. House fee was $40 btw for any shift. Id stay till 10pm usually then get some food and drive home.
I would love to make the best of every trip and do it effieciently. I check out reviews from many sites and read on here in Club Chat. My question is how do you plan to make the best of an out of town trip to a different club?
*thanks*;D
Re: Making the best of traveling
When I travel out of town I usually do it for an extended amount of time such as up to 2 weeks and plan to work 10 nights out of the 14 in total.
I avoid being expensive with my travel as I stay at various backpackers. It is really inexpensive for me to buy a single dorm or room for myself (not shared unless I have a travel buddy). I then am careful with my grocery shopping. I do not eat out - I home cook even if that means a microwaved meal. It is far cheaper in the end.
I stick to public transport where possible.
All in all I count the costs... then divide that total by 10 nights... usually I aim for $200 per night. I realise that my first and even maybe by second nights in a new club will not be so lucrative as I'm "getting used to" the place and how things work... I take that into account. I also take into account that I may earn $400 or more four nights out of 10. I always err on the conservative side of estimated earnings.
Other than that... you don't really need any guidance. From your post it seems that you are making the best of every trip now.
I don't do "just a weekend" (one week for me) unless it is either a working holiday (3 nights work, the rest holiday "being a tourist") or if I have worked at the club previously and can pretty much predict my earnings or will be working 5 nights out of the 7 nights.
Any lesser time (3-5 nights total away) I would be pretty much working every night and only doing so at a club I have worked at before where I do have an accurate predicition of my earnings.
I would then take 2-3 nights off when I get back home before re-starting work "back home".
Just how I would work things.
Re: Making the best of traveling
1. Find a roomie/car rental partner if possible. Theoretically, this should be someone who you get along with well who is also a hard worker and dedicated to profit maximization while traveling.
2. I'm big on Motel6, and all of those other cheap chains. I can travel in style for fun. At the reception, they have a huge free book that will tell you of all of their locations. Best Western is good too.
3. Book flights and rental car as a package. Sometimes that may include a decent hotel package too but not always. Try www.mobimiso.com They have a comparison of the main online travel sites.
4. I usually stay for about 5-12 days. Extended stay hotels are also good. Even if not, stock up on non-perishable foods.
5.. Bring everything you need with you as you don't know if the new town has easily accessible stripper clothes shops, etc....
6. Fly in by early afternoon. That will give you time to get a car, check in, take a nap, and get ready.
7. When I travel, I NEVER get to work after 8pm. Usually its bet 6-7 pm. That way I'm sure to get hired before management is stressed out, and can start the evening with the happy hour crowd..... I have worked up to 8 days straight but usually prefer to work 3-4 days, then take a break....
hope this helps!!!!
Re: Making the best of traveling
I travel all the time. I have traveled as much as 2000 miles from home in my car. The main key is to do your research before leaving.
1. How difficult is it to get hired at the clubs you want to work at? Some places require advance scheduling and there is a good chance that they won't want to work with you if they know you are going to be gone in a few days.
2. Find out if the location requires any licensing before you are allowed to dance- this will eat into your time as well as add expenses to your trip.
3. Pack the nessessary items for the club(s) you are going to be working at. Some clubs have dress codes like long gowns or bikinis or pasties or minimum/maximum heel height.
4. Get a room with a microwave and fridge. This will save you time and money. I do however recommend that you eat out on occasion just to have a hot and satifying meal.
5. It is cheaper to stay at a motel for a full week then it is to stay only 5 days. Always ask for extended stay rates.
6. If you have a car I recommend that you bring it. That way if things turn sour you can high tail it home and cut your losses. Otherwise you are stuck waiting for your plane, alone in a strange city, pouring money into cab fare or rental car expenses (I know this from personal expierence in Ancorage Alaska).
7.Get a romaing package on your phone! This is so worth it if you travel a lot.
8. Bring a camera! You will meet great people and see really cool stuff that you are going to want to share and remember.
If I think of more I will come back and post it here.
Re: Making the best of traveling
Thanks girls these are awesome tips;D;D;D;D;D...I just dont want to do go about it all wrong. I think I could have picked a better club though. I havent picked a club yet to work at though. This something I want to keep my sanity from getting too bored or burnout out on one place.
About hiring practices I think I should just call 1st and ask how they go about it.
