Newbie in Canada
Hey!
I'm dying to dance, but I'm hesitant because I'm not familiar with Canadian specific "rules", and I really don't know the questions to ask! I really don't want to walk into a club looking like a dunce when I announce "I just wanna dance." har har. What do I look for? what are the best clubs to work for? etc etc...
:O

What province are you in?

Re: Newbie in Canada
in alberta (where i am) you call up an agency and start doing amateur nights until they bump you up to "rookie" status where you do half weeks or a week as a "real stripper" and eventually you just become a real stripper when they/you decide you're ready/good enough.
i only know of two agencies here, independent artists and deluxe (or something like that). i don't/have never worked for deluxe but it sounds dodgier to me.

Re: Newbie in Canada
I'm in Ontario, north of Toronto (about 2.5 hours north!)
I've read so much conflicting stuff :) about the need for agents, or just working on your own. The one dancer I talked to said she just shows up and asks to work, or if there are any openings to work the weekend.

Re: Newbie in Canada
Hi Ramona,
Vaughn requires a license. These clubs are generally HIGH mileage.
Toronto also requires a license with medium- low mileage.. Varies depending on the club.
Mississauga clubs do not require a license and you will automatically know the mileage from the quality of the club. Generally, high class= low mileage while Low class= HIGH mileage. (some are VERY high) Stay away from these!
You most certainly do not need an agent here. You simply call the club, ask if they are accepting free lancers and go in (bring two pieces of Canadian ID) In some clubs they do not let newbies work the first day.. they want you to watch and learn.
Good luck!

S4L, You are so close to me :)
I don't know if it's commonly done, but it would be nice to have some girl-power support :) hehe.
YEA, that is great information, thanks! However, (this is when the "newbie" comes out) what does "mileage" mean???

Re: Newbie in Canada
Low Mileage= Low contact / High Mileage= High contact
Some in Ontario are extreme so PLEASE be careful.. make sure you check out different clubs and all your options before you start anywhere!!
If you have any other questions feel free to send me a PM.
