I can't do glam hair...HELP!
Hello!
I was just trying to find any threads that might help me on this, but I typed in a search for hair and got like 500 results. ACK!
OK, what I want to know is...How do I get my hair to do the sexy big curly look. Kind of like Alexis Vogel does to all the girls. You know, Pam Andersons hair. Do I need hot rollers or should I use a curling iron? If I need hot rollers, how do I put them on (in what pattern I mean)?
I Have always just blown my hair out strait and I had the un-girliest mom ever, so I never learned. I mean, I can do clothes and makeup but hair escapes me. For chrissakes I cut my man's hair myself, but womens hair scares me.
My hair is long, like down to the middle of my back and I really want to "do up" my hair for work, not just look like I walked in off the street. I also have longish "brushed over to one side" bangs.
If anyone has any tips...HELP! Thanks girls, you are life savers I swear!!!:worship:

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
My advice is small, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone in not doing hair....dancers used to laugh at me in the dressing room because I was such a spazz with the curling iron and brush. I just don't have the patience for hairstyling.
I think you should get a layered cut (long hair can be layered too) and that's instant volume The curls will poof out from the layering when you style too. As for curling, a hot hot iron will tame almost anything, and use gel or mousse along with the hair spray.

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
I use the foam hair rollers to do my hair like that. After your shower you can put them in your hair while it's still damp and either air dry or blowdry it. I always slept in mine when I did it, not very comfortable though. I don't know how long you're awake before you head off to work, but you could try not unrolling them until you're almost ready to leave. After you take them out separat the curls some if you want and spray spray gel or hairspray on them.

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
I cut my waist length hair about 4 inches and it is so bouncy. There are layers everywhere. My waves are hold. When it's straight, it looks edgy and exotic.
Try layers!

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
I don't do anything exciting or time consuming....
I usually wear my hair down and flat ironed.
It's pretty funny that I will throw my hair up in a high ponytail and then spread it out in all directions with strands coming down on the sides of my face, spray it and the guys go crazy over this. They call it my "just got fucked" hair... LOL
It looks really sexy though when I wear an evening gown or an outfit with thigh high stockings. ;)

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
I use velcro rollers... fairly big ones. I have long layers down to the middle of my back. I use real light conditioner when I wash to not weigh my hair down. I towel dry and put a volumizer just at the roots mixed with the tiniest amount of light gel. I blow dry the roots up, pulling with a big round brush (you can do it by pulling up with fingers or other types of brushes too). Next I either try and shape it section by section with the round brush or just get it nearly dry. Just keep bringing the hair away from your scalp. I put the velcro rollers in when it is nearly dry... lots of them in small sections with slightly smaller ones on top. I might hit it with the blowdryer again with the diffuser attachment. At this point I'll just let it finish drying and cooling down. Eat dinner, put on makeup... whatever. Ok, remove rollers, tossle with fingers and mist with aerosal spray but not too much or you will weigh the hair down. If you want to tease the hair at the crown do it the smooth with fingers. NO BRUSH!!!! No heavy products!
This really doesn't take too long once you get the hang of it and find the products that work for you.

Ditto what Veronika said, large velcro rollers work great. I usually don't have lots of time to blow it out straight first, so I just blow it 90% dry while using a flat brush, spritz each section with a little spray gel and twirl around the roller. Let sit for at least 15 minutes, then finger brush. Voila...big, bouncy hair!

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!

trick is in the hair cut.. get a good one from someone that knows what they're doing... layers, long ones....
then get a good blow dryer and a good brush... and a volumizing moose..... thats all u need....

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
Wow, you girls make it sound EASY! I guess I was just too afraid to try it and come out looking like a 1980 van halen video girl with the big fried hair! I'm going to definitely get some velcro rollers SOON, how many do I need? What size?? I have mousse, will that work?

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
The size of the roller depends on the look you're after. I like my hair to be pretty straight, with just a slight curl on the ends, so I use the large rollers (just smaller than a coke can). Gives huge volume, with very little curl. I need about 6 for my entire head (2 for the top, one for each side, and 2 for the back). I roll the top and back ones backward from my hairline, in a mohawk-type line. That leaves the sides which I roll downward. The key is to pull the section of hair straight up so it gives you volume.
If you only have mouse, I would use it on wet hair, blow dry, and then put in the rollers while your hair is still warm. Maybe spritz your hair lightly with hairspray after the rollers are in, and let your hair cool down. If you get some spray gel, spray each dried section of hair prior to putting in the roller.
Hope this helps! kat

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
HEre is an easy fix if your hair is already dry:
Get a bunch of those 2-pronged silver hair clips they use at beauty shops. (make sure they close all the way to the hinge. I got stuck with a bunch that don't). Part your hair where you want it, then pick up sections of hair, spray the roots (I like Aussie Scrunch Spray) and pin each section so it stands up a little from your scalp. Leave it in about 10 minutes until the spray is dry and then take out the pins. Go easy on the spray; it can get sticky fast. Use a pick to separate the strands a little at the roots.
This will give you a little bit of lift without going overboard, and the pisn are cheap and easy to carry around. I use this style if I have not done anything to my hair and need to fix it fast, like when they call me at the last minute and want me to come to work!

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
Great idea Colleen! Are they the type of clips you use to hold velcro rollers?

Pamela
I was going to mention that.. she uses those clip in extensions. Same styling of your own hair on top applies. To play with extensions (clip in) inexpensively go but the clip in combs and hair from Sally or similar and play around. Just make sure the hair is on a track so you have something to sew the combs onto. You want them to look like the hair in this picture.

Hmmmm...I have never used velcro rollers, so I don't know. THey are silver, about 2" long and 1/4" wide, with two prongs. Almost like half a fork. THey have a hinge and a spring at one end, so id you pinch the "short" end, they will open up like jaws. I think they use them to hold pin curls. Sometimes wehn you find these, the two sides that open up touch each other all the way to the hinge, and sometimes ther eis an open space near the hinge end. The ones that touch all the way to the hinge are the ones you want. the others don't stay in as well. The one in the picture is the open kind, but you get the idea, anyway. You can get these at beauty supply stores.

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
A really easy way to get sex kitten, JBF (just been fucked) hairdo only requires fingers and a blowdryer....well...and some products...
...Wash your hair as usual and towel dry so that the hair is damp. Spritz the hair with a "curl activator" which can be found at any drug store. Then, take a handful of hair, squeeze it firmly in your palm and apply heat with the blowdryer. Continue "finger waving" sections of hair until you have created soft, tumbling waves all over. Finish with a "flexible hold" spray that will keep your hail styled, but not heavy or sticky. Also, spraying directly at the roots with create and maintain volume.
TIP: Make sure that hair does not appear greasy or crinkly, (like I've seen much too often). The point is for the hair to appear natural, toussled, inviting, and sensually messy...like this:

Hope this helps...works for ME anyway ;D

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
Hey Colleen, the clips worked great! I was worried that they might crimp my hair, but they just added a little volume at the roots.
Thanks again, kat

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
I'm glad it worked for you. I got the idea from a magazine, and besides hot rollers, it is the ONLY thing I know how to do to my hair. Can somebody suggest a book, like "Self hair styling for dummies" or something??

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
That style doesn't work for me naturally since I have super curly thick huge hair... to get my hair like that picture I would have to straighten then curl ... but with my luck it would last all of 30 minutes then it's poof city.

Re: I can't do glam hair...HELP!
I know i tried to Tampfldancer.
A better and safer way for the hair is to wrap damp strands around a flexible hair twister going down the shaft long way. Sleep with them in if you can, or wear them most of the day at home, slightly blow dry on a cool setting after you rub a light gel through them. Shit i used that wax stuff for extra hold, OMG i could not get it out.
Now that worked for me! And they held all day as long as i did not brush.
