Research on the sex industry
Hello everyone,
I am doing a research paper for one of my classes about the sex industry and its effect on relationships. I want to try to get as broad a section of answers as possible and one that will reflect the views of not only people who arent involved but also of people in the industry as well. I would appreciate it greatly if some of you might consider clicking on the link below and filling it out.
I appreciate any help you all would be willing to give,
Monique

Oh yeah, if I posted this in the wrong area, I apologize.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was rather hoping for a more personal view. I appreciate it though.

It covers all aspects of the biz.Relationships etc...
Re: Research on the sex industry
Whyn't you go out and meet some people face-to-face for your research? This seems like a method that will have questionable accuracy.
Also, it's spelled "prostitute."
What class is this for? The survey makes me think you're in highschool and possibly too young to be hanging out here.
Re: Research on the sex industry
Thanks for pointing out the spelling error, I will correct that right away. The paper is for an english class and I am 31. I assume that is old enough to be here. :) We were told to keep the questions as simplistic as possible, why that is I dont know. I would like to go out and do some of this face to face but my topic changed midway through the process of the paper and I now have less than a week to complete the same amount of work it took me to accomplish in a month previously. Thanks for pointing out the error.

And that should be "too much sexuality" I believe, rather than "to much sexuality."
Re: Research on the sex industry
Monique,
If you want responses from people who have worked in the sex industry as well as those who have not, why don't you include some questions about the responder's involvement in the industry? You may find that you get somewhat different answers to those questions from sex workers than you do from the general public. The questions don't seem designed to address the experiences of people who have worked in the industry; I didn't feel compelled to answer them.
Also, what on earth do you mean by the "normalization of the sex industry"? Are you referring to the fact that you can watch strippers get naked for Howard Stern every night on the E! channel? The rise of the upscale gentlemen's club? The fact that they now sell a lot of thong underwear at Target? Or what????
The industry--and those who actually work in it (rather than just embracing "stripper chic")--is still stigmatized. Trust me.
Re: Research on the sex industry
Thanks to those who did answer it, and pointed out any spelling errors I had. I appreciate it. I agree that the questions are rather mundane but I had to follow a certain guideline that the professor set us. The reason I didnt include questions about experiences of those who work in the industry in regards to the topic of their work is because the paper focuses on whether these topics have changed personal relationships and only in that context. The questions were supposed to be ones that anyone could answer and while I do find it interesting what goes on behind the scenes for you all...a typical housewife might not be able to answer. One thing everyone can answer is a question about their own personal experiences in relationships. That was why they were so broad and generalized.
By normalization I simply meant that it is more common to openly discuss these topics. Of course that is not the case in all places or at all times but generally mainstream culture has embraced certain terms or ideas that once would have been thought of as taboo. The word Pimp for instance. It used to have only the connotation of a man who controls prostitiutes and takes their money. Its fairly common to hear pimp used to describe something, Mtv has as how with pimp in the title that has nothing whatsoever to do with prostitution. That kind of normalization.
I realize that there is still a stigma surrounding the actual industry and the workers in it. That was why I wanted to at least try and get some input from people who are on both sides...even if it doesnt appear to make sense or be worthwhile. It mattered to me.
Thanks again to anyone who took the little survey. It will be helpful to back up the research from the gazillion books all over the floor of my room.
