Frist claims an assault against people of faith
I read This today and thought....oh brother, give me a break ::)
These fanatics have ruined the reputation of the GOP , IMHO , and this kind of thing is a great example of actions which continue to discredit much of the GOP.
I am so looking forward to the day the party starts going back to the true principles the party was founded on and leaves all this theocracy type behavior behind.

I couldn't agree more!!
Re: Frist claims an assault against people of faith
This part of the editorial is just plain wrong:
Senator Frist and his backers want to take away the sole tool Democrats have for resisting the appointment of unqualified judges: the filibuster. This is not about a majority or even a significant number of Bush nominees; it's about a handful with fringe views or shaky qualifications.
First of all, the fillibuster is a perversion of democracy as it takes away the right to actually vote on an issue. Secondly, if President Bush truly is nominating, "unqualified judges", with, "fringe views or shaky qualifications", the the Democrats owe it to the American people to bring these nominees to the floor of the Senate and expose their lack of qualifications and their extreme views for all to see.

Uh, HK, you could delete the odd thread with nothing but the original. hehehe
As for the psychics at the Wall Street Journal editorial page--they are getting their panties in a bunch over a speech which won't even happen for over a week!! They can glean all the subtley and nuance of a "declaration of war" and it has not even happened yet. Not only that they can be outraged by it!!
Perhaps given their subscriber losses in their wholey owned subsidiary (Boston Globe) their psychic abilities could be put to more use. I heard Dionne Warwick is looking for a partner.
Re: Frist claims an assault against people of faith
When the pendulum swings back, it will swing back hard and fast...
Re: Frist claims an assault against people of faith
ultimately, it will all boil down to which voters show up at the polls on election day vs. which do not.
As far as the pendulum theory, IMHO given the 'left of center' pendulum motion of the past half century there is still considerable momentum to be overcome before that pendulum reverses direction to the left again.
As to the 'fanatics' on the fringe of either party, IMHO they both distract from the central theme of the respective parties. But when you compare 'conservative christians' as one group of 'fanatics' versus 'gays' as another group of fanatics, the gays may have the money and press coverage but the christians have the votes !

Gay people are all fanatics ???? I'm going to leave that part alone :-X Readers can see that for what is anyway...... Instead I'll just say I strongly disagree with the above quoted comments.
Fighting for people to have equal rights has long been a founding component of the Democratic party. Therefore I do not agree that including equal rights and anti discrimination for GLBT persons is distraction from the parties central theme, in the least.
Fiscal responsibility and small government have long been the founding components of the Republican party but one wouldn't know that by looking at the majority of current Republican leadership. That is a problem for me and is why I currently find myself leaning towards more Democratic policy and leadership.
IMO, the GOP is no longer really" Republican" anyway but instead more and more a group whose goal is a theocracy.
Conversely the Democratic party is becoming more like a combination of the best parts of both traditional republican and democratic policy.
It is my great wish that the GOP will return to more traditional Republican policy and leave the theocratic crap behind. As for the Democratic party, my hope is for them to continue on their current path of learning to balance social issues with fiscal responcibility.

I was speaking politically, from the perspective of the 'fanatical fringe' of one party viewing its counterpart 'fanatical fringe' of the other party. As to accurately defined 'fanatics', the christian abortion clinic bombers and the ultra-promiscuous 'AIDS death wish' gay men both constitute a very small fraction of their respective groups.

I'll just repeat your own words and say that I strongly disagree with the above statement !

nor would I ... however these groups are clearly seeking special rights, 'protected group' status and 'positive' discrimination via the Democratic party, in much the same manner as the Democratic party has been instrumental in obtaining special rights, 'protected group' status, and 'positive' discrimination favoring other groups in the past.
Re: Frist claims an assault against people of faith
Special Rights ? That is one the biggest load of propoganda there is ! If anyone is getting "special" rights it is married heterosexuals. But we are going off topic now aren't we......
