The definition of conservative has definately changed
But Paul Rosenzweig, senior legal research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, said today's world demands that people be more open to the use of cameras.
"You can't sweep back the tide of technological development and you can't blink your eyes to necessity," he said. "We are in a changed circumstance today. For us, September 11 brings it home."
Conservative? I remember when it meant more like "You leave me alone and I will leave you alone."

You know during the cold war it the liberals that seemed willing to give up their freedom in exchange for their lives through their policies of appeasement with the Soviet Union; "better red than dead". Now it seems that in the terror war its the conservatives that are willing to make that trade off.

It's not about giving up freedom, but about which freedoms to give up. The left and right are both chipping away at our rights.

I do remember back, I think, in the 1970s or early 1980s, that the Democrats, with Ted Kennedy leading the charge, were advocating a national database for personal histories to aid in criminal investigation - Republicans at that point were upset because of the potential privacy rights that could be affected.
Do you suppose that these folks are generally just political whores? Perhaps?

That's because we do not have conservatives in control, their voices have been drowned out by the neo-conservatives and their extreme views, which for the Christians among them, are generally based on some ....ummm....rather unconventional and very American interpretations of Christianity.
I am pretty far to the left of the political spectrum on most issues, but I was appalled at congressional intervention in the Schiavo case, especially from Republicans which have traditionally championed themselves (as conservatives) as the upholders of personal freedom from government intervention. The polls have been showing that many, if not most traditional conservatives feel the same way. It's really a betrayl.
