Re: Libertarian Positions
There are a lot of things about the LBT party that seem nice at first but upon further inspection I've come to the conculsion that they are a bunch of loons who would have no problem whatsoever with giving corporate America a free pass to rape and pillage all of our natural resources and environment.
Read their platform in full. Many of their ideas are dangerous and irresponsible. They are very big on cutting down the federal govt until pretty much only the military remains. They want to cut all of these govt agencies:
Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Environmental Protection Agency
Consumer Product Safety Commission
Federal Aviation Administration
Food and Drug Administration
Department of Education
Department of Transportation
Interstate Commerce Commission
National Transportation Safety Board
Coast Guard
Federal Maritime Commission
Bureau of Reclamation
U.S. Forest Service
Bureau of Land Management
Department of Agriculture
OSHA
US Postal Service
NASA
All of those agencies are specifically targeted for closure in their platform. There are some I missed and many related ones not mentioned that they would like to close.
In general they put way too much faith in the corporations to do what is right. They want to think that a business will voluntarily spend money to keep their workers, consumers, and the public safe. They metion consumers using boycotts as a means of forcing manufacturers to make a safe product (when was the last sucessful boycott?).
Re: Libertarian Positions
They also want to end all govt funded education. I guess poor people don't deserve educations. It really is the child's fault that their parents have crappy jobs. Hopefully they can turn America into an Indian caste system.
Re: Libertarian Positions
Oh yes I realize that it isn't all peachy. LOL ! No political platform is without faults. I was just pointing out some of the stuff I like about their platform.
I am with you all the way in reference to education and the enviroment too. On those issues I personaly lean towards the left for the most part. Not too crazy about the whole throw more money at things that aren't working, in that case I say revamp and try something new which is more of a right leaning take on it....... But in theory and sometimes in practice I'm with Dems on education and the enviroment.
But I am full on with Libertarians on the censorship issue. I want to be able to decide what I see and read not the government. There is always the "what about the kids" arguement thrown up but to that I say.... hello... it's called parenting !
And I love, love, love this comment from Tompkins: con men and bunko artists to whip up fears and ancient prejudice by pretending to debate whether homosexuals should be 'allowed' to marry one another
because imho that is exactly what the anti gay marriage crowd does...... They use BULLSHIT arguments like gays will ruin marriage for everyone else or bankrupt the system. Nothing could be father from the truth and the proof of that is that places where it is legal none of those things have happened. Both arguments are (IMO) just very bad cover ups for predjudice.
Re: Libertarian Positions
Faults are one thing, being completely bass ackwards on nearly every domestic issue is another. The only thing they do right is protect individual rights.
Re: Libertarian Positions
LOL ! Well at least there is one thing (in your opinion) that they do right ..... that is better than nothing , right ;)

You called it right there. I was looking at the Libertarians at one time because I was party shopping, but while they have some things that are important to me - so are national parks cuz I would like to have a couple of trees around and not have Yosemetie park behind some dude's fences like a modern picasso in someone's living room.
