Vietnam Vet spits tobacco juice on Jane Fonda
Rhi: Feel free to move this to PP if you think it would be more appropriate there.
I don't approve of what JF did in Vietman either, but its been 30+ years.

I can understand this man's sentiments, but his end didn't justify his means. Next time, try holding a protest. He could also use a calculator. Since I was born in 1972, I know it was 33 years ago, not 37.

Fuck her. What she did is treason and should never be forgiven. She should be glad some Vietnam Vet didn't just shoot her in the head, because she sure as hell deserves it.
Re: Vietnam Vet spits tobacco juice on Jane Fonda
Why is what she did treason?
Seems to me what Einzinhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon did was treason.
A lot of vietnam vets are in hell for what they did in nam, but I doubt ms. Fonda is going anywhere near it unless she has some dirt I don't know about.
Vietnam = 60,000 americans and 3 million-ish indo-chinese lives wasted for nothing.
He should have spit in the face of the politicians that started the war.
Re: Vietnam Vet spits tobacco juice on Jane Fonda
What a dumbass.... I'm sure he'll feel better about himself for a few minutes until he has to go back to his regular miserable existence....

Depends on who/what you believe - she's gone to great lengths over the years to publicly address the accusations that have been made against her, and the detailed explanations she's given as to not only her motivation/intentions, but also her then-existing perceptions of the circumstances surrounding the specific incidents that seem to have caused the greatest public outcry are quite plausible. Moreover, they track the actual "facts and circumstances" (insofar as those can be established to a fair degree of certainty through photographs, eyewitness accounts, contemporaneous documentary evidence, etc.) far more closely than the current versions of what she supposedly did while there.
Although I don't agree with much of what she did, the starting point for any judgment you wish to render needs to be the best evidence available re what she actually did and what actually happened... and after 30+ years of embellishment, you can't get that by reading the current versions of what allegedly happened in right-wing periodicals, etc.
Go back and look at what was published at the time... what she did isn't exactly my idea of patriotic, but IMHO it's not even close to treason.:twocents:

Re: Vietnam Vet spits tobacco juice on Jane Fonda
She was photographed posing on a NVA anti-aircraft machine gun (as though she were manning it), during a time of war. THAT is treason. She is a traitor.
This discussion isn't about whether her opinion of that war was right or wrong, nor whether anyone else committed treason. Others have. Regardless of her reasons for opposing that war she did in fact commit treason, and deserves to be punished. Spitting on her is the least anyone can do.

I have heard a story that a POW sneaked a note to her detailing they were being tortured. She gave it to the officer in charge who then progressed to truely beat the shit out of the POWs she came to see.
It was a nasty bit of time then and she certainly didn't help it any.
Re: Vietnam Vet spits tobacco juice on Jane Fonda
^ I've heard that too, but is it true? Supposedly several POWs died, and/or were starved and beaten because of that. I got the info through a mass email that the POW had passed a note with all their SS# on it to try to get rescued...or something like that. Anybody know the truth, with any sources to back it up?
Re: Vietnam Vet spits tobacco juice on Jane Fonda
Not true. . It's pretty good, including a debunking of that particularly story as well as an analysis of her actions at the time.
My own opinion, she didn't go there to help stop a war - she went there to support the North Vietnamese (and therefore, their eventual conquest of South Vietnam) in a weird display of trendy spoiled-bratism.
