Reincarnation....
This is kind of a split thread from Madcap's "Parapsychology" thread.
At first you might reject reincarnation off the bat as a silly idea, but do you realize that billions of people in many different Eastern countries (India, China, Southeast Asia, etc.) have spiritual beliefs that accomodate the belief in some sort of eternal essence and the graduation of that essence through different lives (Buddhism, for example?) The reason the Western world rejects reincarnation is that it is not (on the surface) compatible with Christianity.
I'm not actually stumping for reincarnation, I haven't made my mind up yet..but I get the feeling as I grow older that some things I wonder about make more sense as time goes by, they fit together better retroactively ("Hindsight: 20/20..."). The people I have met, the life I have, my interests and beliefs.
Any thoughts?

Re: Reincarnation....
When I was growing up, my father would constantly retell the story of my sister's birth - his first child. He said the birth was very intense and very beautiful... a spiritual energy filled the room. The colors became more vivid and intense, lights were floating around the room, and his body was filled with both excitement and a sense of peace... retelling the story would almost bring him to tears.
When I was young, I remember asking him, "Daddy, what happened when I was born?".
"Nothing", he replied.
Honestly, I don't believe in ghosts, heaven and hell, or reincarnation. My sister does, but I wrote it off a long time ago. I just can't get myself to believe in that sort of thing without experiencing it myself.
Who knows. Maybe my thoughts will change as I get older :-\

Re: Reincarnation....
My goodness A_Guy. I always joke around that the 30 MINUTE labor my mom went through with me was because I was in a hurry to get away from her....LOL
Hear me out though. I occasionally think I am the reincarnation of my grandfather- I look like him (yes, that's a "manly mug" in the avatar, LOL) I think I was born resembling him to heal my dad, because my grandpa was an abusive drunk, and I have nothing but love for my dad.

Re: Reincarnation....
Not that I think my ex turned into a bug, BUT when I went to visit my ex's grave for the first time, a bee turned up in my purse the first minute I was there. I thought it was funny. I was thinking, "tony brown is even funny when he's dead".
