Well, that's gonna degrade the quality of future strippers.>:(
Judging events could include penalty points for routines that emphasize sexuality in school events (maybe not college). The kids at the games probably like what they see, but the parents are apalled.
Guess I'm going to have to go to some games. I'm out of the loop.
Yeah, I agree with it for schools. I thought it was for pro teams and was like "...huh?" but if it is only schools, I agree with it.
I haven't seen a game or cheerleaders since high school. But if it is anything like what I see on the cheerleader competitions on TV, then this little law is some bullshit.
Plus, who is to say what is "sexual." Is bending over sexual? Is kicking one's leg up high while the skirt fly's sexual? I can't wait to hear this list.
Oh how I wait for the pendulum to swing to the other side.
Texas. Where dildos are illegal.
Actually the squads clean it up for competitions because they are penalized for for "vulgar" routines. The cheerleading and drill team where I went to school has always pushed a bit much.
Yeah, pretty screwed up state. Where the cucumber lobby and bible belt lobby are more powerful than the privacy rights lobby.Quote:

I can say I agree with this to an extent. And as for what's sexual; I have seen cheer moves that could rival most of us dancers on the stage. I have seen routines where the girls do repeated forward hip thrusts while licking their lips and smacking their butts afterwards. That to me is very sexual (since I do it at work).Quote:

But to tell cheerleaders that they can't do the splits or toe-touches anymore would be out of line IMO.
But they do need to take out the "stage work" in some of the routines.
Kitana
And next we should prohibit any skirt that might get kicked up by wind or leg. Heavy to-the-floor wool skirts should be worn. Oh, and the showing of the face is blatantly sexual. Veils should be done. Last, but not least ... selecting cheerleaders should be done by blind judges since an attractive female cheerleader is obviously a sex object. It's for the children afterall.
Prohibition was done "for the children". Censoring the internet was tried and its advocates used "for the children" as their reason. The world cannot and should not be made safe for children since that would restrict our freedoms as adults. It is one of the ugly aspects of American politics that prudish people use to force their views on others. Despicable in my view. But, then again, I'm one of those evil libertarians.
This seems rather contradictory, in view of things that occur in sports everyday in this country.
They dont want cheerleaders to do anything overly sexual, as that is viewed as catering to the baser sexual instincts.
Okay, fine.
But, what about sports that glorify an even worse behavior among humans: violence.
While assaulting another person is considered a bad thing, there are sporting events that glorify violence and blooshed. Namely, boxing and professional wrestling.
Yes, I know pro wrestling is fake, but bare with me here.
Pro boxers dont wear head protection, beyond mouth guards. Yet, we are acutely aware of the damage caused to the human brain by repeated blows to the head. However, there is no hue and cry to mandate helmets for pro boxers. Why? Because it doesnt look good. Simple as that.
So, boxers risk their health - and even their lives - for the multimillion dollar Pro Boxing Industry for the simple sake of appearances. Boxing matches pack sports stadiums with eager fans and rake in big bucks. People go there to see two people beat the crap out of each other and they spend their money to see what would be called Assault and Battery if the same thing occurred in the street outside.
Pro Wrestling is another. While few wrestlers get killed due to their matches, people go there to see outrageous acts of violence. Of course, the sight of blood is anticipated and even hoped for, at times. Wrestlers have been known to carry razor blades in their trunks to cut themselves so that the crowd-pleasing sight of blood will satiate the eager fans.
But, no, lets not put a stop to all that.
Lets crackdown on cheerleaders doing the bump-and-grind.
Anyone see a serious amount of hypocrisy going on, or is it just me?
"Yes ma'am, would you like to see the 8" silicone educational model?"Quote:

Anyone that doesn't realize that cheerleaders are sex objects needs to get out of the monastery more often. If you want to remove sex from sports, ban cheerleaders completely. Of course, you'd then have to go after the unofficial cheerleaders in the audience that would then come into existence and would naturally always work to get front row seats. The Texas lawmaker that is proposing this is a fool and a prude. He is only making the situation become more what he's trying to prevent by making the cheerleaders rebels. He's probably so old he doesn't remember what it was like being a teenager himself.Quote:

All kids would be physicall fit, eating fruit like crazy, and become well-learnt citizens. ;)
If those girls are acting in a lewd way, then arrest those 14 and 15 year olds for lewd behavior.Quote:

that is so totally FOOTLOOSE!!!
also
most of the attendee's have seen far more sexual things on Cable TV
This reminded me of a comedy skit I once saw ( Mad TV , I think ?) where the parent of a
" young girl" asks her child to show some people her school dance routine.
5 daughters here.<<<wavin>>>
It aint cable, and im not at work.
Cheerleading is NOT an option here when deciding extra activities at school. Not a chance,no discussion, end of story.
Aside from the fact I want my girls on the field of battle being the ones cheered(football, basketball, track, chess club, debate club, etc, whatever),this is the driving force behind the across the board ban in my household(and my fathers with my sister)
Two of ours have gone thru highschool and we have a 16 year old in highschool now so I have sat at games as recent as last year. For the most part,i prefere watching highschool over pro sports anyways, but thats a different thread in itself.
I see 14 year olds acting out a bad rap video dance routine on MTV,and i also see in thier rountine what i see at work with entertainers on stage.
I dont know whats worse, them doing it,or the adults in the stands cheering them when they do it????
I understand the argument(and have heard it often, trust me)that the dance move is just the new "move"in dance clubs being done all over the country, and everyone is doing it.
Doesnt fly.
For the most part IMO,its just the highschool level thats out of freekin control.
Elementary and middle schools dont allow it.(for the most part)
The Pros have guidlines.
The collages have guidlines.
Compititions have guidlines.
Why not highschools???
Isnt this a pivital time in a young females life???
Im all for ANYONE stepping in and setting guidlines,i dont care if its the government, jesse jackson, stuart little,a rabbi,a priest,or whoever.
Until then,at the expense of missing the band, halftime will always be family potty break time and refuling at the hotdog stand.
I might not be vocal in my disgust, but i wont watch it,and neither will anyone who rode with me to the game and shares the same last name.
Highschool cheerleading is exactly like children in beauty padgents nowadays.
And we wonder why we have a word in the dictionary like Pedophile.
We dont let our adult females do it at the expense of sport, why would we let our "just broke the puberty line"???
Go to a game and see,you will be stunned.
Im not trying to sound like popeMnM,but dam, this is shameful and needed attention IMO.
Yep. The answer IS obvious on the question of swinging.Quote:

It does send a message though... that some fat old white guy has decided there needs to be a "Cheerleader Arrest Law."
Really...can someone please tell me if it's THAT DAM SERIOUS?!!

they're not banning cheerleading per se. They want to ban sexually suggestive moves.
I think they should keep the stripper moves inside the SC's. Ive seen the ESPN cheerleader shows. Those girls work hard but some of the dance moves are very suggestive. Also, considering they are under 18 most of them. But, cmon how are they suppose to move w/ giant skirts and bulky sweaters on??
Maybe I will feel differently when/if I have a girl. This country is something different now.
i wanna be a cheerleader
:(
I don't think the big argument here is THAT moves are being banned, it's WHICH moves are being banned. I, personally, don't enjoy watching a 15 year old girl drop it like it's hot. Cheerleading, IMO (and I know a little about it b/c I had a few cheerleader friends, and my mom works with the head cheerleader coach at my old highschool) is to be appreciated for its gymnastic and acrobatic moves, as well it's purpose to get the crowd involved in the game and cheering. I'm a pretty liberal person, but there should be a few restrictions. I don't think the state should have to step in and create a law, I think the school boards and principals could handle this themselves.
And hey, watch it now! I'm from right next door to that state! ;) :P ;D
wow of all places Texas. Aren't all cheerleading outfits even somewhat covering suggestive or have suggestive qualities. Damn I even had a set once with a cheerleading outfit. I forget what movie it was..but Keanu Reeves was in it, it was a football movie, where the cheerleaders were replaced with strippers, that was suggestive cheerleading. But some butt/hip moving... that isn't so bad, but grinding on your fellow cheerleader is a little much. Oh the funny side while reading this post I got "Oh mickey your so fine" in my head.
