Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
I've done a little boxing with my personal trainer, or boxing training or whatever you'd want to call it. It's really tiring and I was amazed at what a workout I get from it, just punching and ducking and jumping around. I thought about trying to do more of it but I'm scared I'll get hurt so I don't know if I will. I don't think you're crazy for wanting to do it at all. Just start and see where it goes. You'll either learn you like it or realize you don't.
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
Boxing/training to box is a great way to get in shape, take care of stress and aggression, and a great way to just "release" what's bothering you inside. It is a great thing to do to just lose yourself during the workout, too.
Go for it!

Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
I completely agree with Rockcrawling!!! I took Kickboxing and boxing before and it was awesome stress relief and a great workout. You don't realize how you use every muscle in your body to throw a punch. The great thing about boxing (and not those lame cardio-boxing classes that they teach at clubs) is that you learn how to pack the biggest whalop into a punch. You learn how to effectively defend yourself...all while getting into shape!!
Oh, I think you should do it. I think you'll love it!!
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
I think you should do it, it is a great way to get in shape and definately feel better about yourself.
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
kickboxing will teach you more and do wonders for your legs
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
No, you're not crazy. Go for it. In fact, you reminded me, the very entertaining Lynn Snowden wrote a book about getting into boxing after her divorce. You might want to pick it up, as she is a great writer and very informative.
I am going to take up kickboxing this year.
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
I just picked up the book MadMaxine, and it's great. I can relate to her so much. Really like her writing.
Glad to know I'm not crazy! I think I am definitly going to go for it!
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
Totally do it. I'm training for a 1/2 marthon before the fall and a1/2 Ironman next year. I was tired of not doing anything productive w/ my time off. It also forced me to quit smoking, & drinking,
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
Do it! I've been wanting to box for ages. I was always fighting guys..lol. As little as I am..lol. They would always say "you have hands for a girl"..in other words I have fast hands when it comes to fighting. I was always slapboxing someone. We just got a new boxing gym here and there are a few girls there, so I think I'm gonna give it a try too
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
I know the need to do something else with your day. I volunteer a ton; I'd love to box, but if there was a lot of contact I'd be afraid of bruises or getting hurt (in such a way as to cut into working).
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
Absolutely go for it. I would love to get into boxing. As big and strong as I am, I'm too afraid I'd get my ass kicked by someone smaller because I wouldn't fight back for fear of hurting someone (I'm sooo the opposite of violent). I'm a lover not a fighter. I know it's lame, but I'd have a hard time hitting someone if it wasn't for an urgent purpose like during a real fight or defending someone. Plus, I couldn't hit a woman even though I'm a woman, there's just something wrong about that to me. I always read articles of women dying from blows to the head during bouts. If I was responsible for that, I don't think I could deal. Some people, myself included, don't know their own strength sometimes. I have total bull-in-China-shop syndrome. Do it. Even if you don't fight, the training itself will be rewarding and fulfilling. Even when I don't play during a softball game, I still practice like I would be. Do it for yourself.
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
OMG I AM SOOOO HAPPY SOMEONE BROUGHT THIS UP I WAS JUS GOING TO START A THREAD ABOUT THIS WOW LOL!!!
I was thinking the same excate thing! I been going to a gym for a year and half and the women who know me know that I lost a million billion pounds to look and be a dancer! I was stuck and just couldn't get that tone look. I lost weight sure and I wasn't saggy or anything but I wasn't sweaty or anything!
So I watched the Contender and OMG I seen the way they train so I tired it out at my house i bought a jump rope, treadmill and a few free weights. I put my treadmill outside and boy do you sweat it up. I do old fashion moves now such as sit ups, squats, walking lunges, jumping rope, running on land and just doing an hour on the treadmill.
I tested this last week and went into the gym and I was SOO PISSED OFF I SWEAR! I hardly sweat and the machines assit you alot and yoiu don't feel hardly any burn not like I do here at my home gym and working out in the outdoors plus I get a great tan for free LOL!
So I signed up at a boxing gym and I love it to death OMG I SWEAR I recommend this to any of us girls! We need it for those stupid ass stalkers i swear Mike Tyson I coming for ya LOL No seriously you just leave feeling sooo good about yourself and on stage you feel lighter on your feet!
DO IT GIRL!
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
Yeah, boxing training is a great workout. Just watch your form, because there's all sorts of nasty things you can do to your hands/wrists if you get sloppy and land your punches wrong. The ever-wonderful/common 'boxer's break' (break of 5th metacarpal) will screw your ability to do pole work until it heals, and can result in ugly scars/lumpy hands if it requires surgery/a plate. But don't let that scare you off, it's unlikely to happen if you pay attention to what you're doing (unlike me *dramatic sob*, my beautiful, beautiful hands...) ;D
Re: Boxing....Am I crazy?
ive always wanted todo kickboxing.... Ive always had a side that wanted to kick some ass!!! }:D
