How to keep smiling, etc.
I already know, "think about the money, think about the money". But, aside from that, how do you keep a smile on your face when you're talking to a complete dipshit and keep it from looking fake? Some times I drift off into my own little world, but that sometimes back fires :) Anyone have any solutions to this mystery of mine? :yuck:
Re: How to keep smiling, etc.
If the program you are running in your head is "Think about making money, think about making money" you are using the worst thoughts possible! That's probably your challenge right there. One thing I've learned in my years of working with people at the top of their game is that when you worry about making money, you never do. I've mentioned this before, and that is you need to look at going into the club every night as a game, not work. The more you think about how much money you want to make, the less it will happen and it is this primary reason alone which is causing you to look fake. Imagine this from the perspective of your customer. Would he want to buy from someone who is telling herself, "think about the money, think about the money" or would he rather buy from someone who is genuinely having fun? What you are thinking is projecting to the outside world in a big way!!! On a similar note, imagine you were buying a car from a guy who's only preoccupation was how big his commission check was going to be off of you. Now imagine buying a car from someone who truly was there to assist you in the buying process and make it as enjoyable as possible for you. Which would you rather buy from? I think the answer is rather clear.

You block out the reality that the guy may/may not be a dipshit and make yourself view him as a very interesting guy with whom youre dying to spend time with/dance for. The mental abilities to be a realistic actress and be able to use mental blocks to your advantage is necessary to be successful in the world of dancing. Chances are you're "acting" most of the time you are in a club if you are a successful dancer. Nevertheless, this is merely my opinion.

I think DW has the right idea in terms of treating it as a game.
In game theory there is a thing called a zero sum game - there are winners and losers, but the finiancial position remains neutral.
Taken in the concept of the SC, dipshit walks in with $300. You want that $300, and only one of you is going to walk out of the club with it. The game is then manoevering dipshit into giving up the $300.
Instead of thinking "dipshit is boring", the game then becomes "what strategy do I use to gain dipshit's $300", and your reward, should you win the game, is the $300. The game might be given a bit more spice from your point of view in that you know you are playing it and dipshit doesn't.
Out-think dipshit and have fun doing it!!!
Phil.

I think DW is so right. Concentrating on the money is the wrong strategy because after one or two rejections, you're beating yourself up for falling behind.
Lately I've been trying to focus on the moment, on my customer's body language and what he says, on closing the deal, by using the strategies that have worked in the past, along with new ones I recently picked up.
I am so much more productive when I'm asking myself 'how can I close this sale right now" than "how can I make another $400 to pay my visa bill' etc.
Thinking of it as a sales game ('how much can I sell'), rather than a beauty pagent I need to win to make my $$ goal, has made all the difference in the world for me. (not just the $$ I leave with, but the mental state I go home in).

I agree with DW. I have been back in for about a month and a half and the times where I have stressed about making the minimum or $$ have been horrible days. Other days when I genuinley have fun with the other dancers and custys I make more and realize at the end of the night that minimums and money never came to mind.

well your doing it all wrong, .... don't think about the money...........instead try to focus on getting into the job more...be happy, have a good attitude,be positive, listen to the music, enjoy the people, the inviorment, and have a drink to lighten up some and enjoy yourself.. have fun.....you will be sending out good vibes this way and people will want to be around you.....and so therefore, the money will follow......................you have to love what you do to be good at it ;)
