Dean's Zeal Is Looking Like Zealotry, Some Fear
Dean's Zeal Is Looking Like Zealotry, Some Fear
Tone down the rhetoric, Democrats tell their leader after his recent inflammatory remarks.
WASHINGTON — When Howard Dean was chosen to head their party, Democrats looked forward to the benefits of his bristling energy and zest for political combat.
But at a private meeting Thursday on Capitol Hill, a number of worried Senate Democrats warned Dean that he had been going overboard and needed to choose his words more carefully...
I'm curious what you think about Dean's recent comments. Is he alienating people he should be reaching out to? Or saying what needs to be said?
Re: Dean's Zeal Is Looking Like Zealotry, Some Fear
Why they put this guy in charge of the DNC is beyond me.
Re: Dean's Zeal Is Looking Like Zealotry, Some Fear
One of the top complaints about the current President is that he is a "divider" not a "uniter". While I still believe that the "scream heard 'round the election" was one of the biggest non-issues of the last election, Dean's actual comments are a continuing source of embarrassment for the DNC. It certainly does not make the case for the high moral ground for the Democratic Party and somewhat negates the "Bush is what's dividing us" arguement. Even Obama has criticized this one. It will be interesting to see if Dean can hold onto the DNC Chair. Political parties seem to have no problem eating their own in cases like this.

on talk radio once they played the scream over and over again. i had to pull over from laughter. i dont know why i think it is so funny.
Re: Dean's Zeal Is Looking Like Zealotry, Some Fear
Howard Dean's DNC chairmanship is actually one of the three best things to happen for the REPUBLICAN party this year !
Re: Dean's Zeal Is Looking Like Zealotry, Some Fear
The Democrat Party's penchant for self-immolation rises again. Dean's pouring the gas.
Re: Dean's Zeal Is Looking Like Zealotry, Some Fear
The democrats are just such a mess.
They really need to clear out the old guard who are still fighting the 60's battles.
Re: Dean's Zeal Is Looking Like Zealotry, Some Fear
I predict that we'll see these comments used against some southern and midwestern democrats in the next congressional elections.
Can't you just see the TV ad now? Picture some hard-working guy in a factory saying "Hi, I'm Bob Smith, Howard Dean claims I never made an honest living in my life, well I know what it means to work hard only to have high tax rates take most of my money, that's why I'm voting republican".

All true. What I wouldn't give for an opposition party that could make a serious challenge for the control of government.
