Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
Question for the Ladies--
In Jenna Jameson's book she writes that almost every dancer has corns and bunions from dancing in extreme shoes... that seems like quite an exaggeration to me?
How many of you have had foot problems from your shoes?

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
After years and years of contorting your foot to fit into something that is not the natural shape of your foot, you will eventually develop such podiatric ailments.I have a very slight bunion on my left foot.No exaggeration, whatsoever.

Not I, but I dont wear anything higher than a 6" heel usually, and I never wear a heel without a platform.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
No exxaggeration. We have to have regular pedicures (much more often than civilian women) to keep our feet from looking like hooves.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
I would imagine that it is not an exaggeration. ANY woman who wears high heels over time will develop bunions. Bunions are bad news.... bad bad bad news. Unfortunately, most people don't even know what a bunion is.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
Not me.. not yet. Tho' I have noticed that I have weak ankles now thanks to the shoes. I only wear the shoes at work.. outside of work all my shoes are flat or platforms.
I heard that if you urinate on your feet when you're in the shower, that can help ? Is that an "old wives tale" ??

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
my feet are the ugliest thing on my body.... Though I've seen many civilian women with uglier feet than mine.
I have a couple of corns and a bruise/light scar from my clear platforms.....And my ankles curse me nightly.
Corns are your bodies way of protecting itself from constant friction. If you can find shoes that fit your feet perfectly then you may not have as many problems...
Or wear boots w/ socks (change your socks a couple of times per shift so they aren't wet and sweaty).
Dancers of all types-- ballet, bellydance, african dance--usually have ugly feet. It's one of the hazards of the job.

GCG,that helps athlete's foot.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
My feet weren't in as rough shape as my:
lower back
shin splints
occasional knee problem
My feet are much prettier now since I don't dance anymore. My back still feels jacked though and needs to be cracked at least twice a day. I blame the shoes.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
Bizarrely enough, my feet are in pretty healthy shape. I think this is partly due to wearing mostly open-toed platforms and only rarely wearing boots or stiletto pumps. Or maybe I am just fortunate. I am pretty conscientous about the pedicures, to be sure, because the bottoms tend to get a bit dry and nothing looks tackier when you're wearing skimpy sandals than dragon-skin feet.
My back, though; all I can say is thank god for shiatsu.

Not really.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
The problem isn't rough skin, corns, etc. The big problem is bunions, medically known as hallux valgus. The bones in the foot become deformed, leading to a lot of pain and disfigurement. Only true fix is surgery, and even then it doesn't always relieve the pain.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
I have very big feet I wear a size a 11. (Something has to hold up this body, lol). Anywho I have corns on both of my pinky toes thanks to wearing dancing shoes that were to small for my feet. ::Sighs:: I need to figure out how to get rid of them, but theyre not that noticible. I did recently developed blood blisters on both of my big toes, I guess from dancing too hard on stage. Oh well, love my job anyway.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
Platforms, pedicures and thoes little corn remover thingies from DR Scholls.
Thoes things really do work. But not under your dance shoes ladies. That just looks wrong.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
I get bunions or blisters or whatever on my feet just from wearing heels, any type of heels. It's not just limited to stripper shoes. I think it's just a price of wearing pretty shoes, especially if you have to walk around on pavement in them. It tears your feet up.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
Any high heel over 2 inches will shorten your calf muscles and tendons, cause bunions, hammertoes, pain in the ball of the foot (like ongoing, not the kind that is just from being footsore), tilting of the pelvis and a whole ream of problems with your lower back and shoulders. Bunions are visible, but really only noticeable once they are the size of eggs. Yes, heels are bad. Very bad. I strongly recommend (and generations of podiatrists recommend with me) that you NEVER wear heels when you are not at work (especially if you work 4 or more shifts a weeks at 5-7 hours a go) and that you have at least 2 days a week in which you wear only flats. This will not prevent bunions, hammertoes, etc., but dancers (yes, even those who just shimmy) are in constant dancer of snapping tendons and muscle damage because of the shortened tendons and muscles from wearing high heels. The more athletic you are onstage, the greater the danger of a snapped tendon. Flats are in this year ladies - love the ballerina slipper fad. Hug it and kiss it and tuck it into bed at night. It is your best friend.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
My toes are very deformed after years of wearing these shoes, most dancers I know have the same problem.Even with pedicures and special lotions you'll probably develop the corns and the bunions. The most painfull part of the foot for me is the ball of the foot. After 4 long nights in a row feels like walking on broken glass.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
My feet are actually in pretty good shape, even after 2yrs of dancing. But, I only wear open toed platform heels. I also srub my feet regularly to help prevent any callous buildup. My back and knees are a different story though, lol.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
Yeah, the balls of my feet are pretty screwed. After too many hours or too many nights in a row - that walking on broken glass thing. And gotta do full pedicure at least every 2 weeks and scrub every day or two.
But I gotta say, my knees are the worst of my problems. Too many years in heels (and banging around on stages) and they're baaaaaaaad. Cracking, popping, creaking, grinding noises eminate from my knees as I walk or bend. Sometimes if I get on my knees now, or even just lean against something on my knees, it feels like a screwdriver is being shoved through my knee, just under the kneecap. Bad shit. I can't get down straight on my knees anymore. Have to do it at an angle.

Someone wrote a song about my dogs!
BTW, my mom sent this to me, she obviously doesn't love me!

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
I think wearing stripper shoes can cause a lot more damage than just corns and bunions. I've had to undergo two surgeries already on my legs, and have to go in for another. Basically, (and I've been to three doctors to verify) because of my shoes, my ankles are collapsing, which is making them distorted in shape, makes walking harder, and causes my knee and back to twist, which causes all my knee and back pain. So take good care of your feet and legs girls, and try to wear sensible shoe soutside fo work!

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
My feet aren't all that bad. I have corns on both of my second to last toes and my ankles are week. I get calcium deposits in my ankles and my hips get sore. I always had a problem with my hips though. Also, I noticed that the nails on my big toes split on the side all the time. I have to paint it in with polish. I'd have to say they were a lot prettier a couple of years ago.

Re: Effects of Wearing Stripper Shoes?
My feet hurt all the time-seems as though my feet are becoming ugly from those shoes. I have seem ladies get those half insoles(the small ones that go right under the balls of your feet) you can't see them in your shoes and they do help-i tried it once. but they tend to come off pretty easy-not sure how you could get them to stick better.
