Increasing stage presence?
I recently went to an audition for a new club. I've been dancing for a few months, and I LOVE being on stage, so I thought everything would be okay. But the rules at this club were totally different and I was so nervous!
At my current club the stage is huge, there are 2 poles and a huge wall of mirrors to dance on, plus we do a lot of floorwork for the guys at the tip rail.
At the club where I was auditioning the back of the stage had curtains instead of mirrors, there were no poles and no floorwork allowed and the stage was tiny. He said being on stage was like your commercial to entice guys to buy dances.
I wasn't feeling the music, I was nervous and felt kind of lost without poles/floorwork.
The manager said that I'm a beautiful girl, he would love to have me work there, but I don't have enough stage presence. So he said come back in a month after I have a little bit more expierence.
I want my next audition to be amazing! I want to blow him away with my stage presence!
So girls with no pole and no floorwork, what kind of moves are you doing? How do I get all eyes on and increase my stage presence?
I'm going back on July 14th and would like to use the time between to practice practice practice. Any tips would be great!
Re: Increasing stage presence?
Work on moving your hips, spins, and just simple steps you can do that are sexy. What might help you is to look at some old videos of burlesque dancers; they never had a pole and still had plenty to do. Taking away the pole, mirror, and floor, well, it basically means you have to be able to dance (not that floor and polework aren't awesome in themselves, but this forces you to be a little more creative).
Try here: http://www.somethingweird.com/ and search for Tempest Storm or burlesque.
Not that I'm suggesting you go all over-the-top or anything; I just think it's a good source for ideas.
Re: Increasing stage presence?
Maybe take a dance class ?
Several cities even have striptease classes at gyms.
Or maybe even try a dvd at home such as SFactor, Carmen Electra's striptease aerobics or some in Fawnia's series.
She has a link here on this website.
I have viewed her tapes.
They aren't not bad, some better than others depending on individual needs.
Re: Increasing stage presence?
I know this sounds like a broken record but...
use your eyes! The most memorable dancers I know have a way of zoning into your mind with the way they use eye contact. If you are shy in using eye contact, work on sensuality. Don't let your arms lie stiff at the side of your body, use them to help project your body - touch it, caress it, etc. If you have long hair, work it, play with it, swing it around, even using it to cover your face sometimes is really cute. Just a few ideas but by watching other peoples videos like weekend reports suggests, will help you find dozens of other ideas.
Re: Increasing stage presence?
You should go over to Rick's some night and watch Ivy. That girl OWNS the stage. :)

Re: Increasing stage presence?
Ivy is damn good, she used to be at the Choice, she was the queen there too
Re: Increasing stage presence?
Different Ivy, this one (Jumblies on this forum) never danced at Choice. But this Ivy kicks ass as well. :)
