Start by recognising that the way men think about striptease will be different from you. Dancers are a favourite fantasy for many men, and as few men ever genuinely get to befriend a dancer, they tend to have a stereotypical image of a dancer in their mind. You will be measured against that stereoype, not how you are in real life.
Most men "know":
(a) You are an exhibitionist who gets a thrill out of being naked in front of strangers.
(b) Not matter what the man's actual physical appearance and personality is, the dancer finds them attractive.
(c) That if they can just "connect" with you, they can get your phone number.
What you actually wear is less important than catering for these preconceptions. If they think you are getting a "kick" out of dancing from them, that you are a little attracted to them, and there is the possibility they might get your phone number, then the average customer will be happy to spend money on you.
Work on conforming to stereotype. OK, the steroetype might be nothing like you, but that's unimportant. What is important is convincing the customer you do conform to his fantasies - do it, and you'll earn money from him.

Re: how do you pick a look?
Excellent advice from Phil for when you interact with customers. As far as your style is concerned, I think you should go with what ever you feel your most sexiest in. You should start out with an outfit that makes you feel super hot. Your confidence will shine through, and help you feel your best. Do not go with an outfit you feel "alright" in, just to get by. If you find yourself not able to buy outfits that you really want ,(Until your more financially prepared) work your hair and makeup to perfection. Your club may have a dress code, but that varies. Either way, make sure you are comfortable with your style. It will shine though and attract people. Also, make sure to allow yourself enough preparation time before you start. 15 minutes more then what you THINK you need.(Just for the first week or two) I never feel as good and perfected when i am rushing. Good Luck
Re: how do you pick a look?
I revived this thread. I think it's an excellent question.......
Okay. I would say play up your strengths . So, if youre dark haired and look like a vixen play it up. Dress really glam.
If you look young and innocent (even tho youre not haha) play that up by wearing pig tails and cutsey clothes.
Re: how do you pick a look?
haha i am drunk and i thought that said how to pick a lock...that i could tell you lol.
Re: how do you pick a look?
haha I'm NOT drunk and I thought it said how to pick a lock!! :S
Re: how do you pick a look?
^^me too.
Just be versatile. Be the girl that everyone likes. Do not limit your customers.
Re: how do you pick a look?
I base it on my personality.
In stripping it's hard to come up with a 'look'. I wear what I like that's nice and with sparkles and look like a stripper. Haha.

Uh please tell me!! I lock myself out
of the house all the time, generally with no car keys and my dog.... so, yeah!
Re: how do you pick a look?
People pointed out to me on my audition night that I would make a hot teacher or librarian, and I have, in fact, been both - it just shows through, so why not capitalize on it. I do great spoofs on the "intellectual type" (prof/business woman) or the "wholesome type" (my farmer's daughter look did well). I don't pull off the sex goddess gown look, so I stick to costume.
Is there a certain "archetype" that you conform to looks-wise?
Re: how do you pick a look?
I pidgeon-holed myself and I pay for it now. The original theory was to just feed me Fall Out Boy till I puked while I made super-sure my hair was ALWAYS in front of one eye, wear clothes I rescued from the Hot Topic clearance rack, etc. Unfortunately I grew very bored with this very quickly.
The double-sucky part is the fact that my beloved tattoos and lip piercing keep me solidly attached to this immage. While I can take out my lip ring if so desired, I chose not to thanks to the drool factor. With several nautical stars and a Jeffree Star quote on my thy...with or without clothes I still look emo.
But the guys just LOOOOOVVVEEEEE my super fluffy hair. Not a shift goes by without somebody playing with my hair. It's the only part of my body I actively encourage guys to fondle cause the more you play with it, the better it looks.
Re: how do you pick a look?
I think you should just be you. Be what you feel. If you are feeling sweet and innocent one day go for that look. If you are feeling seductive and sexy, go for that look. In my opinion, it's always better to just be yourself, that way you are never being fake and you stand out.
As far as clothes etc, guys could really care less about what you wear. It's all about confidence and how you hold yourself. That is what makes a woman sexy.
I hope this helps and good luck!
Re: how do you pick a look?
i started out dressing goth and edgy but at the time i was goth and edgy. i had long black dreads and the whole shabang. but it worked for me and i made money.
the longer i danced the more stripperish i became, lost the dreads started wearing costumes, gowns trying new looks out. now i have my own pinup/classy/signature look that i rock very well. start with what you like, youll evolve along the way.
oh and for the lock picking....
and if you are too lazy to make them you can buy them! lol
Re: how do you pick a look?
hahahaha i thought it said how to pick a lock too.. i was like shit is this girl trying to get us to tell her how to steal or something?
Re: how do you pick a look?
I'm normally a super-punkish type with all my tats and a sort of mean look, When I started dancing, I had a grown-out mohawk and never wore anything but black. Today my hair is down to my back and sometimes I like to blow it out and look like Diana Ross. I look all glammy and girly. The rocker chick doesn't turn everyone on all the time and sometimes I feel like its just too close to the real me for comfort, if that makes sense.

Re: how do you pick a look?
Im glam. Super glam. Rhinestone hoops, bracelets and necklace. I typically wear bras with tiny skirts. Sometimes Ill lose the necklace and wear a bikini. I have shiny turquoise blue with black lace - one like that but gold and my ATF is a nude outfit that matches my skin so well from 10 ft away I look nekkid.
Very 'porn' makeup, lashes and teased hair. Uhm yea... very stripper.
