Wonder when they are going to start here in the states?
Our bombers are currently of the home grown variety.
They appear to have become radicalised while they were in the UK, then travelled to Pakistan for lessons in bomb making expertise, etc.
Phil.
On a lighthearted note, reading about the British cop who killed the potential bomber made me hot. You've gotta have balls of brass to stand over someone who was allegedly wearing a bomb and cap him point blank.
Trouble is, he didn't have anything...
Someone will have some hard questions to answer, one way or the other...
^Mad, they had reason to believe he was wearing a bomb, due to surveillance and they fact that he ran way from them, tried to jump on the train (reports say)........
Normally I don't endorse killing people, but anyone willing to be a bomb sandwich is having a favor done this way!
The bigger question is what society is going to do when a small easily identifiable segment of the population begins to attack innocent civilians to make a political point. Even when Black Americans were clearly discriminated against they did not randomly blow up innocent white Americans. This issue could get really ugly if this behavior among terroists begins in the US as I don't think we have the patience for random bombings that they do in the Middle East .
Agreed.Quote:

Someone mentioned what would happen if a nuke went off in a US city? I replied "I think we will see something happen that will make 'Crystal Nacht' look like a lunch room food fight."
If enough bombs go off in the US, there will be a movement to limit the number of middle eastern people into the country and perhaps even excellerate the process for expulsion of those who are even in the "maybe" classification.
Of course, if they start going off here, people are going to be thinking about alternatives to our way of living also. We are going to be asking "How can we make it so that we care about the Arabs as much as we care about the Rwandians?"
^ Yeah Deogol, I still get irritated when people can't tell South Asians, Indians and Middle Easterners apart.
The British already have and will have better answers for us on this topic. They have been dealing with the peoples of these countries much longer than we have (colonization) and the native UK population has been grumbling for some time about immigration issues.
Don't forget regular US citizens have committed treasonous terrorism- John Lind Walker, Tim McVeigh, the Nichols bros., and a few others that we probably don't know about.
We DO know about our highest officials being in cahoots with the Saudis, who are a special kind of frightening (majority of hijackers on 9-11, stadium executions and women wearing black tents.) That has got to change. You can't do commerce with people that screwed up and treacherous.
We are a fairly tolerant society in the UK. However, this only really works when people of different ethnic origins want to be integrated into British society.Quote:

You've then got a vicious circle - because they behave as social isolates they get treated as such. And being treated as a soical isolate is a good breeding ground for extremism.
It takes two sides to tango. Mainstream British society has to reach out to the enclaves, but it's also up to the community leaders in the enclave to encourage their "followers" to embrace the broader British values.
Phil.
This is true but sometimes they to integrate their culture onto the mainstream :Quote:

There is also an increase of so called "pride killings" here. This to me seems awfull if you move to a country and bring children up here then you are running the risk of them meeting and falling in love with different races and cultures. And to hunt those children down and murder them is so morally reprehensible.
We are living in very sad times!
Personally I think the immigration quotas have been too high in many countries for far too long. Let them come over for advanced education, and then send them back home to help their own countries. I think "brain drain" is a terribly destructive policy to the country losing people. If they are overcrowded, let them have internal policies to control that. I know some more advanced countries need to import workers for certain fields where there are shortages. Temporary work permits can allow this. We are already doing too much 'outsourcing' anyhow. Further anymore immigration is bring in certain risks.
Hey, look, you will get along with them just fine long enough you adopt their ways, their beliefs, and their customs!}:DQuote:

That's a kick in the head, wonder why he didn't just stop!
Probably because he was terrified, and when we panick we don't always do the logical thing.
Errr excuse me did you not read/understand my post or are you trying to be funny ?

Wow, I can't believe the police killed in innocent bystander. However, I need to point out that what got him killed was panicking and running like he did. The exact same thing would have happened to him here in the States, given the situation.
That fear that people have now is exactly what the terrorist wanted and are getting- the initial deaths and woundings are just "icing on the cake." They want people to suffer constantly and be worn down.....the Madrid Bombings effect (turning an election) has emboldened them.
My boyfriend works as a training officer for the police, and the awfull thing about the situation is that the officers aren't allowed to yell at the suspect.
It's because in the trained suicide bomber situation it would give the suspect time to detonate the bomb.
There seems to be speculation that the guy was carrying drugs or something and that's why he ran.
But to be honest every paper is saying something different I read he was Brazillian, and then I read he was Colombian.
I feel so terribly sad for his family :(
Oh and I know exactly what you mean Seraya - everytime I get on a bus the top deck is always empty. After all the pictures of the Tavistock Sq double decker it's only natural.
It's only the smallest minority of freakazoids doing this and we can't empower them by being suspicious of anyone with slightly dark skin.
ultimately, some 'good' changes will result from the recent Islamic Terrorist attacks on London. Unlike Americans, due to the WW2 'blitz', decades of IRA attacks etc., most Brits realize that wishful thinking and political correctness will NOT contribute to improving Public Safety/National Security. Thus political support for 3rd parties like the Independence Party will likely experience a major increase.
I heard he ran because he thought the plain clothed police were muggers. That is at least one of the theories.Quote:

Of course not. The answer the is a long term one -- (1) of reversing the anti-Islamic rhetoric and vitriol in the teaching of kids (essentially the administrative purging of fundamentalist religious and educational leaders) and
(2) for the near term for responsible religions, political, and cultural leaders to condemn in the strongest possible terms that hatred and violence and pursuade the populations to constructively work toward increasing tolerance toward other cultures/religions and mending cultural fences.
Parts of the Quran demand religious tolerance, and that has been the norm in that religion until the last generation or so. There is a strong precedent in their religion to base the reversal on.
So why the HELL haven't they started doing it ??????
Well I think everyone is under suspicion now, I went into Knightsbridge with my rucksack, and the police stopped and searched me with dogs.Quote:

It's totally weird right now, and I agree with you whole heartedly about things not recovering as fast. But I'm still so proud to be living in London, I think almost everyone has handled it so well.
