Help!! Why can't I find work?
Hi everyone, it seems like it's so hard for me to find a job for myself at a club whether it be a dancer or a cocktail waitress. I recently tried to get a cocktail waitress job at Penthouse and never got a call back. I'm a very professinal person, and truthfully I don't think I'm hard on the eyes. I've been told I'm beautiful by many men and I believe the same I just can't seem to get any sort of work at any club even as a waitress. I'm not heavy set. I'm 5'4 brown skin, brown eyes, full lips and I have a pretty smile. I'm a size 8 and it seems like only a sleezy club would want to hire me and I really would not like to work at sleezy ghetto club. What is a girl like me to do? Any advice would be deeply apreciated.:'(

Re: Help!! Why can't I find work?
Thats a tough one. Even "not so attractive" girls can getta job! Have you considered your town being the problem? Theres gotta be something your not sharing with the class! Do you feel that your confident when you have your interviews? I hear the clubs out in New York are of a diff breed...
Either your not giving enough info or your just being hard on yourself. o_0

Most places it is more difficult to get hired as a cocktail waitress. You are probably better off focusing and applying as a dancer.
Re: Help!! Why can't I find work?
This is true. Went to a place which advertised in the paper for waitress. When I arrived, no more need for waitress, all positions filled. Asked me if I danced, in desperation, I lied, I said yes. Show me some steps, they said, I did, I stumbled. They hired me anyway.

pretty good way to get dancers, i'll say....
as to the original question, maybe try for day shift at one or two places? or try out an amature contest. even if you dont' win they still give you a job, usually...
you can always start small and work your way up if you want.
Re: Help!! Why can't I find work?
What is your nationality? I an black and also a size 8, and less women of color are hired at higher end clubs. Of course this depends on the city you are in. I get told how pretty I am and generate a lot of customer interest in smaller town clubs but in the big city clubs get the run around a lot. Many top club owners and managers are prejudiced, plain and simple. They think white men want all young breast enhanced white Barbie dolls and that is far from the truth.
As long as middle aged white men dominate wealth in this country, and people of color don't wake up, learn how to create wealth, and start owning and professionally running businesses, allowing them to be more integrated, non whites will aways suffer.
As far as waitresses go, in Texas where the larger clubs employ a dozen or so on the floor at one time, it is easy being hired.
You don't necessarily have to work at a ghetto club, but seek out higher volume middle of the road clubs with not as stringent hiring standards. Then be persistent in going back to the clubs you want to work at. Making a few attractive white dancer friends who have an inroad to the clubs is helpful. They can help you get hired.
Re: Help!! Why can't I find work?
Maybe your coming of as too professional and not “fun, flirtatious, stripper atmosphere” type?.. Just a thought..
Good luck!
Re: Help!! Why can't I find work?
I have been to strip clubs before, and I 've seen those pole dancers do their number on the stage, and I told myself, hey I can do that! That is because I am a gymnast, and I can do workouts on a pole just as good as they can.
Then, I had brief flash of economic inspriation, and thought to myself, hey, I can go to work at one of the clubs! I can earn some good money! No more starving myself near the end of the month when I get my annuity check.
So, I go to those nice upscale clubs and begin talking to those people.
Now, at the beginning of each interview, comes this trick question.
Do you have experience?
No.
Bye.
And so it went at all those upscale places. Made me mad too!
Well, I told myself, maybe my expectations were too high. I need experience, and I am not going to get this experience if I can't get a job. But I don't want to work at those low rent places. But I need the money. So I began to apply at those places.
Yeah, and the same story. No, No, and NOO!
You will not believe this, but I finally got a job as a clean up help at one of those low rent clubs and finally worked up from there.
I could have given up, and just relied on my "annuity", and kept getting by butt pinched at the end of every month. No, I wanted better for myself, and I knew I could do better.
No matter how discouraged I kept trying and that is all I can say, keep trying.
The first step of the journey is always the hardest. Good luck..
Re: Help!! Why can't I find work?
Thank you everyone I really needed the advice. I can be very hard on myself but Thanksto you guys i'll continue to look and i wont give up so easily. Sometimes I do find it that it might because of my color, I am a black woman, but I never think that right away. Ine example was that Privilege was highering waitresses and I went there 3 times once they told me to have a resume so i came back with one then they told me the person I needed to speak with was on vacation and the last time I went he said they weren't highering anymore so i wasted money traveling over there 3 times to be told 3 different stories. But besides that guys it's not easy getting into the type of places I would like to work. I live in Brooklyn, New york and I get along with others easily but no one wants to give you a chance.
Hey Ivyleague when are you usually online?

Re: Help!! Why can't I find work?
The first club I ever worked at told the girl in front of me that with-out experience they don't hire dancers, so when it was my turn.... I lied told them I had worked a little back east.... they hired me! As we all know with contract work.... getting hired is the easy part.... making the money is all up to you.
Re: Help!! Why can't I find work?
I'm so sorry to hear that Dutchezz- I'm a black female too and in Brooklyn. I haven't applied anywhere yet- just doing some research first.....but this is very discouraging. I hope you can find a place soon.

How about if you give me a chance to prove that I'm no homosexual?
